Cat Stevens Teaser and the Firecat vinyl error update
Claim your replacement vinyl
Cat Stevens has updated fans with details regarding replacing the incorrectly pressed vinyl in the Teaser and the Firecat box set.
If you recall, the vinyl record that was supposed to feature alternate versions of the album tracks actually included the remastered version of the original album.
In a post on Instagram, Yusuf says:
“Universal have sorted out the existing issue with LP1 on the Teaser and the Firecat super deluxe edition box set, they request all fans who purchased the box set to email [email protected] to request a replacement LP”.
Fans need to include proof of purchase/ownership which can be any of the following: “sales receipt / email confirmation / screen grab / photo of you and your box set” along with name and address.
The replacement disc will ship in a plain white sleeve, so you need to keep hold of your existing LP jacket and inner sleeve. Yusuf says that “discs are being manufactured now and will be ready to ship by early February”.
There appears to be no requirement to send back the incorrect LP.

I’ve just bought a brand new, sealed edition of this online from the music.store.london and it contains the wrong LP. I contacted UMC together with the evidence of purchase and just received an automated email from them stating that they no longer monitor that inbox and I should instead contact the retailer. I’ve done that and will let you know how I get on. I’m guessing that the retailer will just offer me my money back but I’d actually prefer the correct LP. Any idea how I can contact UMC (or better still Yusuf himself as he seemed genuinely apologetic) ?
My replacement vinyl arrived in the US today, so others should hopefully be receiving theirs soon.
Mine has just arrived right now, white sleeve and all.
My copy just arrived via DHL.
I’m 42, grew up listening to cassettes until I was 21 when I finally got my first computer so then was finally able to listen to CDs, so I’ve never had a vinyl fetish like some of you seem to, but regardless of what version you buy you should definitely pick up the latest 50th anniversary set for teaser and the firecat, because not only is it another winner by cat Stevens but it’s also a darn good remaster too.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Paul.
I sent proof of purchase (and nice photo of my box) to the above adress the very day you posted this and here’s the answer I’ve just received:
Thanks so much for contacting us regarding the Cat Stevens vinyl. We are pleased to report we’re planning to start shipping replacements early next week so you should receive yours very soon.
With best wishes!

Three cheers for Janice!
Thank you Paul. I was planning to wait until the price came down before purchasing a copy but most likely this set will be a one-off pressing and a corrected LP will never actually be offered at retail. I went ahead and purchased a copy (nearly all U.S. retailers including uMusic show this set as out of stock) and just received my shipping notice so I forwarded a copy of my receipt and requested a copy.
Wonder if when this happens it essentially brings the already minuscule profits down to zero
Don’t know about this but I saw a oasis album in Asda the other day£35!!!!
I’m pretty sure that they could send out another copy if it was faulty and still be raking it in!!
£35 wot a rip!!
Yes, thanks for the info Paul. I’ve also requested a replacement LP. On another topic, on Friday I received a shipment confirmation for the Paul Young bundle. Very much looking forward to that arriving!
Then they will definitely send not defective?
Or will you have to take pictures of yourself again?
So if you haven’t bought the box set yet, but intend to (when the price is a bit more, ahem, affordable) …. will the box have the corrected LP, or the incorrect pressing? And if it’s the latter, will you still be able to get the corrected pressing from Universal?
These things are always timed, although they don’t always tell us how wide the window is. You can’t really expect them to offer this swap forever, imo.
And yet they CAN expect us to pay a premium for an item that they know to be faulty and is already in the distribution channels?
They don’t expect you to do anything. They made a mistake, they’re doing as good as can be expected to rectify it. Some of these box sets may sit on a shelf for years – do you think they’re going to be able to keep a stack of replacement discs in white sleeves somewhere? I don’t think that’s realistic. It’s not ideal, but it’s reality, I think.
But that’s just the point – they’re NOT “doing as good as can be expected” to rectify the situation. If they were, they’d be recalling all the boxes and replacing the faulty pressings with the correct ones. At least that way they could guarantee that someone buying a box set in the future would get the set as intended.
In my experience, incorrect sets stay around forever. Better off buying it now (or whenever it becomes more affordable) and then requesting the replacement
Thanks for the info. I’ve sent an e-mail to them.
