I became aware of Mogwai through the marvellous soundtrack to Les Revenants (The Returned) on C4 (series two is imminent). The 3CD set looks great value for a delve.
Same here. I love that soundtrack!
Not a fan, but can I just say “Central Belters” is a FANTASTIC title!
(For non-Scots, that’s where the vast majority of Scots actually live, so “central belt” is a term used here frequently.)
Nice one!
It’s a wonderful title, isn’t it?
Only a passing fan – so this set is actually of interest to me – but Mogwai have always had a good line in song titles.
that said, I’d pick this up just for the sake of the collection (given a decent price)
alas, I guess it does fill 6 LPs. honestly, at that price though, they really should have considering throwing in something extra for the vinyl box. and Michael – the fact that you’re even able to whip up the entire tracklist from your collection speaks to the overall so-so value of this set. sure, you’re probably more of a collector than most, but they could have at least thrown on some unreleased material rather than just “rarities” (which nowadays is sort of a moot concept with the wide reach of the internet)
I’d agree that content-wise there’s not much for the committed, but plenty for the passing fan and the track listing makes for a good listen. If the CD is about £12 it’s a great way in for the curious. At the right price I may still end up getting it on CD, particularly if it’s a nice package.
Having already compiled the track listing in iTunes I make the three CDs to be 75mins, 75mins and 72mins respectively, so 6 LPs seems about right.
£51 vs £12
Easy decision for me – the CD version.
I’ve bought the vast majority of Mogwai’s 7″s, 12″s and LPs since they started. I don’t need those tracks on vinyl again so CD will do nicely.
I think you’ll find that getting those tracks again on the vinyl box set really will be worth your while, Paul. Running order, sequencing, etc – all part of the listening experience.
I’m not a massive fan but I do know that some of Mogwai’s tracks are quite long – “My Father The King” is about the 20 minute mark for one. If the CDs are close to full then you’re talking 35-40 minutes per LP….
Must be about 200 minutes of music there so 6 lp’s is about right.
Surely they could have fit this onto less than SIX vinyl records? So many releases today seem like they’re spreading out albums just for the sake of upping the price point…
Vinyl is £51 at that Amazon Link. If you order it from (for example) the fine people at Drift, it’s £52 but you can get 10% off preorders, which brings it down to £46.80 with free shipping. And they’re much nicer than Amazon.
