  1. The 2CD/blu set of i/o arrived today pinged/crushed to buggery. It’s housed in a similar type of digipak as the recent re-release of Substance by New Order. Really wish I’d ordered direct from SDE as things are packaged as they should be or bought instore somewhere.

    1. I must admit, I’m not impressed with the way Realworld have packaged the 2CD+blu-ray. Hopefully our card ‘wraps’ will protect as much as possible!

    2. I actually ordered mine from Amazon as part of a large order … but they delivered two parcels, one a mailer with the Gabriel album in, the other a box with the rest of the stuff in … of course the mailer was flattened and so was the spine of the digipak. I actually think the card was so thin the application of the shrinkwrap would have been enough to bend it …

  2. In case anyone was wondering, the Blu-ray that comes with i/o has all three mixes on it. Bright-Side and Dark-Side are in 24-bit 48kHz stereo, alongside the In-Side Atmos mix. It also has each individual song’s artwork showing while the song plays, with the name of the piece and the artist. Very nice touch.

  3. Found 2 upcoming 2024 releases while Christmas shopping that may be of interest to SDE community.
Dead or Alive “Still Spinning “ 27 cd single box set by Demon Records. Release date of Feb. 16, 2024

The one I am most excited about is The Dream Academy. “Religion, Revolution, and Railways” 7 cd box set by Cherry Red. Includes full albums, b-sides, instrumentals, and remixes. Release date on Feb. 23, 2024.

2024 looks to be a great year of releases so far.

  4. As leaked a few weeks ago, it’s now become reality: Jethro Tull’s “Minstrel in the Gallery” (40th anniversary box set) is now available via Amazon Canada and Amazon U.S. and presumably other Amazon sites as well. It’s also cheap. Goodness knows how long it will be in print for this time ’round, and if the prices will stay as-is or increase.

  5. I just listened to the entirety of both standard mixes of i/o (been a Bandcamp subscriber all year so I got it early on digital) and I much prefer the Dark-Side mix to the Bright-Side one.

    1. I’m in two minds as this point for example the Bright-Side version of “Live and Let Live” is far stronger and less mudded than it’s Dark-Side counterpart. Really looking forward to the In-Side versions to come to a final conclusion on which of the three is the better mix. I guess Pete himself couldn’t decide either hence why there is no single disc release of the album (barring the vinyl releases of course). Can’t believe there isn’t a Steven Wilson mix though, I would have bet money on that happening considering the prog angle and the fact Steve seems to mix everything these days. Perhaps an exclusive SDE blu somewhere down the line…

  6. There is a 2 CD set out this Friday on Cherry Red; Wizzard: The Singles Collection. It collects together the a and b-sides of all nine original Wizzard singles (1972-76), and also both sides of the two Roy Wood Wizzo Band singles (1977-78).

  7. Looking forward to both of the blurays! whoo hoo. Also tried to pre-order the Peter Gabriel on Rarewaves over the weekend to get their 10% off and it was sold out. It’s a f****g pre-order, how can it be sold out? anyway, I will find alternate channels to spend my money, no doubt.

  8. Does this mean the SDE BluRay series #14 Trevor Horn & #15 Soft Cell both get dispatched this week?? Oh joy!! Ordering #16 Def Leppard this week…as for the Corrs, that got pushed to January & I will get the deluxe Peter Gabriel…the recent P!nk album is getting a deluxe this week too, a 2CD “Tour Edition”… interesting about new Army of Lovers too & knew about the new Polyphonic Spree, always dug them…

  9. Nick Cave and Warren Ellis… this from the Nick Cave newsletter: AUSTRALIAN CARNAGE VINYL OUT THIS FRIDAY

Nick Cave and Warren Ellis returned to Australia for 16 shows last year, taking their 2021 album ‘Carnage’ on the road, along with songs from the Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds catalogue. Three performances at the Sydney Opera House on December 16th, 17th and 18th were the climactic shows of an emotional trip, captured for a new live album, ‘Australian Carnage – Live At The Sydney Opera House’. The album is out now on digital and streaming services, with an 8 track vinyl to follow this Friday.”

  10. Not sure where to add this, sorry.

    1. coincidentally, 3 days ago at a thrift store in little old Hamilton in New Zealand I saw my first ever copy of “Massive Luxury Overdose” on cd ! I think in NZ it was only available on import at the major cities.

  11. Not a lot of new content, but vinyl, perhaps a bit of irony that ABBA is celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Visitors with vinyl, when it was actually the first CD manufactured in 1982.

      1. It was literally the first CD ever pressed by Phillips in August of 1982, CD players were first sold in Japan in the fall of that year. By all accounts a landmark release for that alone.

  12. Intrigued by Peter Gabriel (no-brainer) and Trevor Horn (not thrilled with his continual recycling of past glories, but at least what I’ve heard of the covers sound quite nice). Also salivating to get my deluxe CD editions of Alphaville’s Prostitute and Salvation which seem to have been delayed a bit (grrrr!!)

  13. Bobby Keys – “Lover’s Rockin’ (The Lost Album)” – description via Amazon = In the early 1980s, Bobby, Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards under the production of Clive Hunt, took years to record this ‘lost’ album. This record of rare artistic quality has remained buried in the Clive Hunt archives all these years.

  14. I bought the excellent 12” single of Hey Little Girl by The Antipodeans vs Icehouse after seeing this SDE post a couple of years ago: https://superdeluxeedition.com/news/icehouse-single-gets-remix-treatment/
I received an email last week from the label Long Distance Recordings and it appears they have some left, and at a reduced price of AUD$20.00, down from AUD$32.95: https://store.longdistancerecordings.com.au/products/the-antipodeans-vs-icehouse-hey-little-girl-12-coloured-vinyl

    1. Speaking of Icehouse, have you heard the new version of “Get it On” by Icehouse and Simple Minds? found it randomly on Amazon Music. The release date for the track was apparently 24 Nov 2023.

    1. Hear hear for Geordie, rest in peace to him and I’ll raise a glass to him this evening. A truly original musician that many should be paying tribute to! I cherish the precious few times I ever got to see him perform.

    2. Absolutely gutted, KJ and Geordie’s guitar in particular were pretty much the main soundtrack for the majority of my adult life. A virtuoso with a sound that will never be replicated. Condolences to the band, his family and gatherers everywhere.
