Tears For Fears / Songs For A Nervous Planet CD, Vinyl, Blu-ray
Tears For Fears release a ‘hybrid’ live album, Songs For A Nervous Planet. Hybrid because it includes four brand-new studio tracks. The SDE-exclusive blu-ray with Steven Wilson mixes has some final availability this week and the companion concert film is coming to a cinema near you (check out https://tearsforfearsfilm.com).
Queen / Queen 1 CD, Vinyl
Queen’s 1973 debut is newly remixed and becomes Queen I for this belated 50th anniversary reissue. Pick of the formats is the 6CD+LP collector’s edition.
Bryan Ferry / Retrospective - Selected Recordings 1973-2023 CD, Vinyl
BMG release Retrospective: Selected Recordings 1973-2023 a new Bryan Ferry 5CD deluxe set that brings together his classic output with Island Records, Polydor, Virgin/E.G., and BMG, spanning a period of over 50 years. A 20-track CD and half-speed mastered 2LP set are also available.
ABBA / The First Fifty Years CD, Vinyl
This new ABBA compilation uses 1982’s The First Ten Years as its starting point, but adds 10 extra tracks from the original era and, perhaps questionably, decides that all five singles from Voyage (half the album) are good enough to appear on a ‘best of’.
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young / LIve at Fillmore East, 1969 CD, Vinyl
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s 1969 concert at New York City’s legendary Fillmore East venue is officially released on vinyl and CD. It includes both acoustic and electric sets and is newly mixed for release. The vinyl is an AAA (all analogue) lacquer cut.
Duran Duran / Danse Macabre De Luxe CD, Vinyl, Blu-ray
Duran Duran reissue their Halloween-themed 2023 album Danse Macabre as an expanded deluxe edition with extra tracks and new formats. The sold out SDE blu-ray adds instrumentals and videos.
Green Day / American Idiot CD, Vinyl, Blu-ray
Green Day’s 2004 album gets the 20th anniversary treatment with two massive box sets.

Red Box “ANTHOLOGY 1980-1990” 4CD box set was released on 18 October by Cherry Red. Red Box is perhaps a somewhat forgotten 80’s band but I still looove their 1986 debut album “The Circle & the Square” and the songs “Chenko” and “For America”. They were both huge hits in Poland back then, as was “Lean on Me”, and I’m looking forward to getting this Anthology.
Kate Bush’s 2024 radio edit of “Snowflake” appeared on my Spotify Release Radar this morning. It’s 4 minutes and 1 second long, a significant shortening from the original version, which clocks in at almost 10 minutes.
Hi Paul,
The De Luxe of Danse Macabre appears to have a full set of 24/96 Stereo Instrumental mixes?
Thanks,
Mark
As advertised!
I’d missed that so it’s an unexpected bonus for me!
The mastering of the instrumentals is fantastic, shame about the stereo vocal mixes but the 5.1 fold down is fantastic.
The excellent Hozier has just announced ‘The Unreal Unearth: Unending deluxe’ album (triple) available for pre-order, releasing on December 6th.
It features all tracks from the original release, plus the Unheard, Unaired, and Eat Your Young EPs and a previously unreleased track, ‘Hymn To Virgil.’
The excellent and thoughtful (I know, who thinks of the fans these days) thing here is an appreciation of those who have already purchased the album, by offering a Companion vinyl LP in an expanded trifold package, designed to hold your original album! Hopefully, but doubtfully, a precedent for others.
That’s really thoughtful. Just checked and the companion LP also includes the 2CD edition!
Andy Taylor mentioned in an interview that Duran Duran also re-recorded “Shadows on Your Side” for the Danse Macabre album. I wonder if it will be included in the next deluxe reissue or released as a standalone track.
Received my ‘Songs For A Nervous Planet’ Blu-ray today Paul, thank you. It’ll get it’s first play later on.
Does this mean you are shipping BOTH SDE BluRay Audios of TFF & Duran Duran this week??
Yep!
Not quite an ‘Out This Week’ post, but may be of interest.
NOW generally announces the reissue along with the latest edition, but last week, when they announced NOW 119, there was no mention of NOW 19. Is it finally all over for the reissues?
BADBADNOTGOOD’s Mid Spiral is released this week on CD and double vinyl. It gathers together three digital only releases from earlier this year.
Also out this week:
Tracey Thorn – A Distant Shore expanded CD
They Might Be Giants – Beast Of Horns album
Hi Paul.
the link for the porcupine Tree – fear of a blank planet (6 disc) is still live at Fnac.com for only 29 euros !!
Thank you for this, Mestreech. Great deal!
Thanks for sharing! Ordered the 6-disc at Fnac. The package is minimal, but the discs are the same as the deluxe book edition, so with the bluray.
Hello Cristiu2, how sure are you that the package is different from the artbook? I can only find one version of the upcoming FOABP-release with 6 discs (including one blu-ray), which is the well-known artbook. On burningshed, the picture for the artbook is also the same as it is used on fnac.com. I rather assume that there is an error in pricing on fnac.com…
Thank you for the heads up!
The PT box set pre-ordered and the Roger Waters The Wall live Atmos blu-ray ordered at the same time,£45,92 in total
Great deals indeed!
Kind regards,
Henrik
I ordered it on their site but the order has not moved, and the item isn’t available from them anymore. I doubt I’ll be able to get it.
Hi Paul – I suspect you’ll want to change this heading: Crosby, Nash, Stills & Young / LIve at Fillmore East, 1969 CD, Vinyl
That isn’t the heading. ‘CD, vinyl’ is underneath the heading. It tells people what formats the release is available on.
… but… the name of the band is CROSBY, STILLS, NASH and YOUNG… and not CROSBY, NASH, STILLS and YOUNG… you have the family names in incorrect order. I know: I have to get a life.
Whoops. Sorry David… couldn’t see the wood from the trees. I did get it right everywhere else and I do know the correct order (honest, guv). Thanks to everyone else who also pointed this out.
The pleasure = mine (and, presumably, “ours”). Goes to show you’ve got not only a loyal audience, but an attentive one as well.
Just got it yesterday at Looney Tunes in my somewhat area…turned them onto the SDE site as well…they did a “listening party” for it…um just me & this other guy were the “party” haha…its a good/great recording with a killer 16 minute “Down By the River”…they did a raffle for a copy of the vinyl reissue of “Deja Vu”…50% chance of winning…nope, lost, but that’s OK, I’d rather have the 4CD/vinyl boxset instead…on an unrelated note, Charli XCX “Brat”, 2 related releases, thought I needed both…the expanded “brat and it’s the same but it has three extra songs so it’s not” (white cover) & the 2CD remix album “brat and it’s different but it’s still brat” (green cover & mirrored backwards print throughout)…had no idea the remix album has the expanded album as disc 2…but with the 2 mirror booklets & the white is like part 1 & remix part 2, i think im keeping both…back to CSNY I did get album flats & promo posters of it, so that’s cool…
As mentioned bellow, there is the SDE of Fear of a blank planet by Porcupine Tree and there is also a new Deluxe of “Red” by King Crimson. It is in the same style as “Larks’ Tongues in Aspic”, with anew atmos mix by steven Wilson, and a couple of CDs. The Blu-ray is packed with every session available. A completist must have for those who already own the road to red box
Thanks for pointing out the Red boxset. It’s affordable (45 £) and there is a huge amount of material on the blu-rays. Five concerts + the whole “USA” live album !
This is a very big/expensive week for me.As well as CSNY,Bryan Ferry and Tears For Fears from the list above I’m in for
-Laura Marling “Patterns In Repeat”.New album from the best British singer/songwriter of her generation
-Porcupine Tree”Fear Of A Blank Planet” 5CD+Bluray box.Similar format to the In Absentia and Deadwing boxes
-Ben Folds “Sleigher”.Christmas album with a difference.Nearly all new original songs and 2 covers that aren’t obviously Christmas song.Seems to be trying to catch all the various and mixed emotions associated with the season.
I think the “Trees” box set [well ear book] is delayed by 2 weeks – at least in some territories.
A new Julian Cope album came out last week, “Friar Tuck”: https://merchandiser.headheritage.co.uk/products/friar-tuck
And very good it is too!
Also out this week, and day 1 purchase, is Clannad Legend 40th with 11 bonus/missing tracks that were found in the ITV vaults.
Love this on atmos but its a niche market
Count me in for Clannad in Atmos :)
Same here. Loved the show and the music. Next thing I know is In A Lifetime where Bono does his best impression of Julio Iglesias. And then came live aid and Joshua Tree. If I could, you know I would if I could I would let it go….I just can’t. Lol.
“One” may never have existed without “Once in a Lifetime”. I think Bono got a lot from working with Clannad. I don’t like U2 but One and The Unforgettable Fire are without doubt brilliant songs.
Just as a FYI, the Horizons album by Moira Brennan is an astonishingly good listen and is also on SACD in 5.1. I was lucky enough to find a copy for the princely sum of 3 quid.
I think Moira’s a more interesting artist and a lot better singer than (younger sister?) Enya, to be honest. Her records are always worth investigating. And, yes, to Clannad in 5.1, Atmos or Hi-Res stereo.
Phenomenal album, and BAFTA winner too.
New releases I’m looking forward to this week:
Amyl and The Sniffers – Cartoon Darkness
Laura Marling – Patterns in Repeat
Those Level 42 albums are expensive. For less than 2 of these albums you own one of the two box sets. It’s time Level 42 releases their top albums on an Atmos blue -ray!!
I have the 2 ten CD L42 boxsets…plus the Re-Flex box (yes Mark & Phil Gould were in Re-Flex before Level 42 fulltime & chose L42 when they had to choose)…all I need is the 3rd L42 box of their 90s work…and what’s left, solo stuff??
An album and an EP after the boxsets timeframe.
A new Miles Davis Bootleg series has just been announced for november 8th : “Miles in Paris 1963 & 64”. Six CD/8 LP for a fair price. The music, of course, is splendid.
The next weekend will be great, Queen, Green Day and three SDE Blu-ray’s need to be listened to.
I hope for some rain….
Best wishes to all readers!
Also out this week is an SDE of David Coverdale’s three solo albums “Into The Light – The Solo Albums under the Whitesnake banner (presumably for marketing purposes). The 6CD set features 2024 remasters of the original mixes and 2024 remixes of each album plus bonus tracks demos etc. Apparently AI de-mixing technology was used on the 70’s solo albums. Looking forward to hearing the results as these albums, particularly 1977’s Whitesnake album sounded pretty dull. Northwinds had a slightly better sound but still has room for improvement. 2000’s Into The Light is a criminally underrated album IMHO and sound-wise, I don’t think needs much tweaking.
No mention of the new Underworld album coming out this week?
Just listened to what’s available on iTunes. Sounds fantastic! Thanks for the heads up buddy!
Bronski Beat Blu Ray last week, TFF and DD this week and then nothing more until ITG on 5/6th Dec……..
An SDE a week would be just perfect!!!!!!
Hoping that we will soon see Heaven 17 (P&P and LG), Human League (Dare), New Order (up to Technique), FGTH (WTTPD) and Prince (PR) all announced shortly with all but H17 already announced in terms of Atom mixes, although Prince PR wont be SDE.
Any chance of ABC How To Be a Zillionaire, it sold well in the US.
Still hoping for Duran Duran’s debut, Rio & SATRT on SDE Blue Ray…….
Prince PR SDE wont happen if not at all. If it was happening it would be announced by now seems too many internal wranglings with the estate. I wouldnt hold your breath, till your purple in the face, for any other future releases either. I could be wrong
I’m in. Zillionaire in Cinemascope would indeed be awesome on Blu-ray. Perhaps they could include some of those recently discovered demos I read about. If they do do an Atmos mix, the b-sides Judy’s Jewels and Minneapolis would also sound incredible in Atmos.
This was the first DAD CD I remember. A digital recording but analogue mix. I’d ask for a Thompson Twins type expensive Blu-ray for this with instrumentals and all the audio bonus content with all the mixes of Millionaire, Be Near Me, Vanity Kills, Ocean Blue, Tower of London, the Megamix and the b-sides
But, in this case, video content would also great. The 5 videos, The Tube live with Tower of London and Millionaire and the interview with Paula Yates would do it for me. The videos were a lot of fun and could be restored to at least 720 and made look good.
Of course, then there’s that demo of Tower of London that was released by mistake too on Pickwick. And there’s more, I’m sure. Dreaming is free, even when, as they say, there’s so much panic in this world.
That would be a great reissue! The Pickwick compilation is “2” right?
