The Police / Synchronicity CD, Vinyl
This The Police box set is quite possibly the reissue of 2024. Interview with Hugh Padgham and ‘all formats’ unboxing coming this week…
Pete Townshend / Live in Concert 1985-2001 CD
Seven rare and out-of-print concerts by Pete Townshend are issued in a new 14CD box set called Live in Concert 1985-2001. SDE took an early look at this box in this month’s video roundup and we spoke to Townshend about this release which will be published soon.
Heaven 17 CD, Vinyl
Heaven 17’s first two studio albums, 1981’s Penthouse and Pavement and The Luxury Gap from 1983 are being reissued on both vinyl and CD formats.
Blur / Live at Wembley Stadium CD, Vinyl
Blur’s mega-shows from last summer released on CD and vinyl.
Beastie Boys / Ill Communication 3LP deluxe Vinyl
Capitol release a special 3LP vinyl edition of the Beastie Boys’ 1994 album for its 30th anniversary. Lenticular sleeve, slipcase and bonus LP are the main features.
David Bowie / David Bowie CD, Vinyl
David Bowie’s 1967 debut album (issued on Deram) is re-released on 2LP coloured vinyl and as 2CD set.
Producers / Made in Basing Street CD, Vinyl
Trevor Horn and friends released an album in 2012 under the Producers moniker. Made in Basing Street (the album in question) has now been expanded to this 5CD box set.
Talking Heads / Stop Making Sense CD, Vinyl, Blu-ray
Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense is reissued with two bonus tracks. The 2CD+blu-ray edition includes a Dolby Atmos Mix on the blu-ray but no concert film (i.e. it’s audio-only).
Various Artists / NOW 18 CD
NOW 18 was originally released in 1990. This has the unappealing original artwork and a tracklisting with four original songs missing.

Seems that the Townshend box set will be the first of at least 2. The booklet mentions in brackets “more information on the studio albums is contained in the forthcoming companion box set to this piece”.
Bad Brains – ‘I Against I’ (1986) CD, LP and Cassette reissues released. Punk Note edition of the LP with alternate artwork available. Limited (1,000) coke bottle clear vinyl version of the ‘Punk Note’ edition on the Bad Brains official site. Standard ‘Punk Note’ edition is black vinyl.
Morrissey – Beethoven Was Deaf – Live in Paris (1993) Remaster/repackaging released this week.
If you’re a Dave Gahan fan do check out this song off the new and AMAZING ‘Humanist’ album. Beautiful dedication to the late Mark Lanegan, whose last few albums were produced by the man behind Humanist, Rob Marshall (former Exit Calm guitarist). Now THIS would sound amazing in atmos.

My 6CD box set has arrived this morning, and my 2CD arrived yesterday. Paul is right, easily the box set of the year!
Rhino will announce 4 new Quadio titles on Blu-ray this Friday (26th)
They’ve already been leaked. Unless someone is telling porkies.
Bread, Bette Midler, Duke Ellington, Grand Central Station.
Nothing in that batch for me, I’m afraid. YMMV.
The Rhino offerings have been tailored to the American market whereas SDE is more UK market orientated which is what I am more interested in.
No, that was not off topic. The reissue label Rubellan Remasters, was just Scott Davies, passionate for music. As one man show he released perfect new wave/aternative albums (at cd and/or vinyl) of bands/artists like Visage, Ultravox, Missing Persons, Xymox, Oingo Boingo, Suzanne Vega, but he was so often being frustrated by the big corps as Universal, even giving him sometimes license cancellations notice on the eve of releasing/distributing. It happened allready before by the management of That Petrol Emotion and as is seems now by members of Split Enz who vetoed recently cd reissues of their band. It was pity, Paul, you and Scott never shook hands together while your focus on the alternative music of ’80’s was more or less the same. I’m pleased you’re still releasing fine music, but I feel sorry for Scott. And also for new wave albums, remastered and released with great dynamics….

That is sad news, but the shoddy treatment he received is all-too believable from a corporate music biz that has been hellbend on self-sabotage for a long time. Scott’s work on the likes of Visage, Daniel Dax and The Passions made those albums shine for me again. Cheers Scott.
I had high hopes for more of the same. Let’s hope his talent is gainfully employed through other channels in future to bring other neglected albums back to life.
Off topic but I just had an email from Rubellan Remasters. Unfortunately Scott Davies has announced that his label is having to close down. This is really sad news. Gutted.
Very sad news indeed, I know Scott has had enormous trouble getting titles licensed for re-release.
Makes it all the more amazing what Paul has achieved with the SDE releases.
Also out this week in Japan (tomorrow in fact 24 July) is The Bangles Japanese Singles Collection and dare I say it, The Nolans Japanese Singles Collection. Both are 1CD+1DVD
I have Townshend ordered via iMusic. Cheapest for me.
Also have The Police SHM box set with the big goof Amazon price. Site says no idea when coming in. When I look at the Amazon US & Can sites, it says August 9th.
You won’t get The Police box from Amazon. They are cancelling or indefinitely delaying delivery for those orders at the wrong price.
So i will stick with mine. Not a problem. The box set at the regular prices are too much for me.
I once ordered Porcupine Tree’s In Absentia on DVD-A. They goofed on the pricing. Probably was supposed to be $20.99 but charged just 99 cents. I got it at that price.
I wish they would hurry up and cancel my order if they aren’t going to fulfill it so i can buy the 2CD version elsewhere.
This Friday, Cherry Red are releasing “Pick Up On This 1987-1992”, a comprehensive 4CD box set by Cookie Crew, “Britain’s most celebrated rap act. They had some great singles such as Got To Keep On and Born This Way. It includes their 2 albums plus singles and remixes.
Might pick that up, just in case it has the Frank Sidebottom anthology pressed onto it. *ba-dum-TSH!*
Possibly the Police set for me (still caught in two minds). By the way, not mentioned here but another Charlie Brown soundtrack was released last week, more great jazz music from Vince Guaraldi, with another scheduled for September. The Prince Estate could learn a thing or two from these Charlie Brown guys….
I believe the new Art Brut 5 cd box set is shipping this week
‘Bang Bang Rock & Roll’ is one of my favourite albums of the 00’s.
The Pete Townshend Live Box has not even been released yet but Amazon USA shows it as “currently unavailable”.
That’s normal for Amazon. Potentially a price change or they don’t know when they will get it in.
My police SHM-CD box £30 box set bargain from June has still not been cancelled although I’m not holding out much hope. Amazon are still saying not yet dispatched
Same here, although it has a release date of 16 August on my email. Just waiting for the ‘excuse not to fulfill’ email!
Same here. I wonder how many won’t be buying the box this week as they wait on the off-chance that the £30 SHM-CD deal will be honoured?
I see the price of the “normal” cd boxset on Amazon-UK is currently £75, which is very tempting and very unusual for Amazon-UK to be the cheapest site approaching launch day.
They should get on and cancel our pre-orders, if they’re going to, so we can make decisions on whether to buy again or not. Of course, I bet the price won’t be £75 on the day they do decide to cancel!
Also, deluxe editions of Fish’s first two solo albums are released today in his store:
One CD, three LP and four CD +Bluray versions available.
Not sure if I may add the store link …
Are the blu-ray versions exclusive to the Fish store? I’m tempted, but they’re kinda pricey……
I think they are all Fish store exclusives. Yup pricey because of short runs. He doesn’t want to keep too much stock when he shuts down the “store” next year.
Note that there is a 3CD set and a 4CD/BR set. There is also at least one bundle.
4CD/BR delayed until next week. A further short delay for the vinyl.
Admittedly, the following newsflash is not about “this week” – rather, it’s pertaining to August 23 – but I thought for those who are not yet aware, and based upon so many discussions our group has had, the following news would give people a spring in their step and start counting down the days to the end of August: Via Burning Shed, “2024 represses of the deluxe boxsets for Jethro Tull’s Stand Up (1969), A Passion Play (1973), War Child (1974) and Heavy Horses will be released on August 23.”
Wow – didn’t think this would happen and have been waiting to get my hands on a copy of the one I missed (War Child) forever – great news!!
Yes, me as well, this upcoming re-issue group will let me finish the entire set of Tull SDE books. I’m so grateful to the “powers that be” for listening to the fans and making this happen.
There’s also a Stop making sense tribute album out on Friday called “Everyone’s getting involved” featuring covers from the likes of Miley Cyrus, The National and Paramore.
What a week!
The Police,Pete Townshend and Blur for me.Glad every week isn’t as expensive as this.
This week sees the release of Fairport Convention’s ‘It All Came Around Again: Onstage and On Air 1982-90’ deluxe box set.
134 audio tracks – 57 previously unreleased
Over 100 minutes of BBC DVD content including three bonus sessions from 1972–76
Live at Cropredy Festival 1982–84 and 1986–87 plus BBC concerts and studio sessions
Guest performances from Ralph McTell, June Tabor, Ian Anderson & Martin Barre (Jethro Tull)
60-page book featuring an extensive new essay by Kate Bush/John Martyn biographer Graeme Thomson, new appreciations by Fairport biographers Patrick Humphries and Nigel Schofield, vintage interview features by Colin Irwin and Mat Snow and superb photography from Dave Peabody
Reproduction memorabilia signed by four members of the legendary 1970 Full House line-up: Richard Thompson, Simon Nicol, Dave Pegg, Dave Mattacks
Curated by biographer Colin Harper. (Our very own legend ColinH).
Looks a smashing set.
Thank you, Stanley – it is indeed a fabulous set! But then I would say that, wouldn’t I? :-D
This does look like a wonderful set. To experience the current line up at this year’s Fairport’s Cropredy Convention, along with some other craking artists, get yourself along to a friendly field near Banbury in a couple of weeks time. You should be able to get your copy signed by several of the participants, at their dedicated signing tent.
Though given that the set already includes an item signed by Peggy, Mattacks, Nicol and Dicky Thompo, one surely only requires Ric Sanders to sign it!
Also out is the second album by Humanist “On The Edge Of A Lost and Lonely World” featuring various guest vocalists (Dave Gahan for one). There was signed vinyl exclusive but that’s gone already…
Really looking forward to this one. The single Brother featuring Gahan and co written with Ed Harcourt, a dedication to Mark Lanegan, is truely beautiful.
To cap a potentially expensive week there’s also the reissue of Jack Bruce’s Songs For A Tailor in box set form with 5.1 mixes, a 1970 documentary and lots of alternate tracks. His first solo release, but second recording after the jazz album Things We Like, this is a classic.
To add to the expense (in my case), Fish is releasing deluxe editions of his first two albums. Alongside the Police, these are must-haves for me.
Expensive week this week. The Police box set, Pete Townshend box set, David Bowie and Bruce Dickinson all on order for me.
