World Party‘s 1997 album Egyptology is reissued as a 2LP set at the end. It’s slightly expanded with live tracks on side 4.

Disappointingly, there is no physical expanded edition of INXS‘ third studio album Shabooh Shoobah just a ‘digital deluxe’ (with 15 rarities, including extended mixes, B-sides and live tracks). However, we do get INXS Recorded Live at the US Festival 1983 which is better than nothing. This is a live performance of nine out of the ten tracks on the album.
Various Artists / Now That's What I Call Christmas CD, Vinyl
The 3LP red vinyl edition of Now That’s What I Call Christmas is released this week.

Not much of a deal but The Beatles’ Super Deluxe CD set is currently down to £89.98 on UK Amazon and the vinyl set is £140.34.
Also out on 28 Oct and likely to be their second Top 10 album – “Triggered!” by Massive Wagons. If you like your rock albums multi-formatted then this is for you. 12 different LP variations, 3 CD options, cassette and USB stick!
‘Revolver’ arrived yesterday from Amazon US. I had received an email stating that it was pushed back to November 11, so was surprised to see it at my door. Although the audio content is underwhelming for the price, the book is fantastic. And heavy.
Just what went wrong with Amazon and the release of Revolver, one of the biggest box set release titles of the year? I ordered it in September and it was due today (November 1st), which in itself is poor. Now I’ve had an email saying they can’t get any until Friday at the earliest! Of course an organisation that big just doesn’t care but it’s incredibly frustrating and takes the shine off the whole thing. I’m still awaiting the picture disc from the Beatles Store as well, the so-called online store exclusive that you can buy in HMV!
With a pair of Sennheiser HD800s headphones and an old Arcam CD23 player, I think this whole box sounds marvellous.
I have to agree. I’ve been listening to my CD set since Friday. The stereo remix sounds terrific. The sessions material is a bit underwhelming. I would have liked to have heard more of Here, There and Everywhere – especially a version without George’s awful twangy guitar (my only beef with an otherwise perfect record) Overall, thumbs up but I think folks can get by with the 2-CD version.
creeping under the radar is a song from john oates…… PUSHIN’ A ROCK
https://youtu.be/M57VuykRq8E
It seems to be tied up with mental health issues and “mo-“vember ………… and only a stream/download it seems….
….but still….good to see a master craftsman still at work/play.
a bowl of oat(e)s is good for you!
consume mass quantities!
Same here.ordered in September and now being told it will be delivered Tuesday so why am I being charged for premium delivery which as someone has already mentioned used to mean day of release.same thing happened with Rory Gallagher deuce
Amazon US now has ‘Revolver’ pushed back to November 11.
Release day and not even dispatched from Amazon order in September its a joke. Amazon have got worse and worse for release day deliveries. Used to be safe as houses. Showing 1 to 3 weeks for new purchases. Is there a shortage or something really hacked off. Will have to try and source from HMV
Got the 2 cd this morning from Amazon uk
The same here. Pre-Ordered the 5CD set when the set was first announced. It says my delivery date is November 18 (three weeks past). Though I think they could still surprise me any day with an email saying that it will arrive this week. They have done that before.
Yes, the day of release delivery service from Amazon is appalling now. I’ve noticed in the past couple of years or so, that if you get your order in early, your delivery date is normally the Tuesday after the Friday release day. However, if you order a couple of weeks or less before the release date, then the delivery date is guaranteed for the release date. I have, as a matter of principal and as a Prime paying customer, cancelled orders and re-ordered to ensure same day delivery, but it’s not really viable if there has been a big price increase in the meantime.
Marc Almond – ‘The Things We Lost’ mini-album out this week on LP and 3CD (features 2CD live concert).
Coming Dec 16 is his 10CD ‘A Live Treasury Of Song 1992-2008’ Box Set on Cherry Red.
The mini-album is tremendous and the live double-cd is even better. My wife is the Almond fan in this house but I have to admit it’s an excellent release that seems to have drifted under the radar. And such great value compared to, say, a certain SDE that came out this week…
Make love all day long make love singing songs, first time i listen that, gonna put in practice next time.
The recent practice of leaving out a physical surround mix on a number of titles, but then them appearing on apple or similar streaming services makes me suspicious. My guess these streaming services have signed up a number of record companies for exclusivity for a number of artists. Hope I’m wrong!
I suspect that is what has happened. Apple has so much money to throw around that I am sure they could demand exclusivity for the money they are offering the labels. And its likely more money than the labels could ever expect to recover from sales of releases with blu-ray discs. And if there is an exclusivity contract, it shuts out boutique production runs like Paul’s SDE Surround Series.
My desires for music collecting are being shredded. I’d like to “hold the music in my hands” but it is becoming less justifiable.
While I live in the USA, I am an expat Brit having a much more European taste in music. My collection is mostly European sourced CDs. I recently realized that with my set up – buying CDs, ripping them in lossless to a computer, and streaming them via ethernet connection to my system – was wasteful and getting increasingly expensive after the international postal system got rejiggered and Amazon UK started charging US sales taxes during COVID (the cost of getting a single CD from Amazon UK essentially doubled). With CD or higher quality downloads available for purchase, and with my focus being listening to music rather than reading booklets (with increasingly unreadable print in CD booklets) or admiring artwork, I found that I could purchase downloads for far less than purchasing a CD. That way I had more money available to get boxed set with exclusive content and multichannel mixes.
Now it clear there is a major shift is occurring putting multichannel mixes exclusively on streaming services, eliminating them from boxed sets, and making all the stereo content of a boxed set available via streaming or for purchase as a download. As a result, the only things unique to the physical editions is the book, box, and tat, i.e. the least important part of any release for me. I feel I am being pushed to abandon physical releases. But while a download can be as good or better than a CD, we lose when a lossy multi-channel mix is only available on streaming services. And of course, if streaming services drop these mixes from their library, the music listener is screwed out of listening to it ever again.
My case is some how a little different, living in Mexico City stores are not selling anymore decent cd players only a few very cheap ones who doesn’t last 2 years, or even worst months. So i’m really thinking about stoping buying CD’s next year. I don’t know i’m gonna be able to resist the temptation but without a CD player buying cd’s is pointless.
Can you not order one to be shipped in. Amazon has loads of great CD players.
I often use my laptop with a with a external cd drive and a fantastic sounding sound card and headphones.
I don’t think there are any “special deals”. The Revolver surround mix isn’t exclusive to Apple because it’s also on Amazon Music HD. The Beatles must get tens of millions of combined streams everyday across all the streaming platforms and they know that’s where the money is now. I suspect most of the refuseniks posting here will spring for the physical edition of the box set when it drops sufficiently in price and they’ll also stream the surround sound mix, compressed or otherwise! Kerching!
If not one special deal then many specials deals with Apple, Tidal, Amazon. Whichever, the net result is no Blu-ray in the boxed set. Money has won over satisfying the audiophile customer.
I am one of those “refuseniks” who will forego the boxed set until I feel its at a price that is reasonable to keep my collection of the boxed sets going, unless I decide that it is no longer worth it as I can get all of the audio in 96/24 from Qobuz for $58.89 and hear the lossy Atmos mix via Apple Music for which my non-collecting son pays.
According to “another music forum”, The Qobuz 96kHz release is missing the very start of Taxman, don’t know if the same applies to other HD downloads?
The new Luke Haines/ Peter Buck album is coming out Friday. New tracks sounding great as always.
I love Revolver and personally find the CD Super Deluxe $110 to be somewhat fair but $200 for the Vinyl SDE equivalent is a joke. I spent that on the 2014 Mono Box Set for like 14LPs and a hardcover book. This also makes the 8LP of All Things Must Pass SDE last year seem like a deal (although the cd/blu-ray SDE was pricey for what was included with a booklet). I’ll come back when the vinyl set approaches the $135-$145 price point.
*Not* out this week… The Rolling Stones In Mono on vinyl. Amazon have confirmed this has been ‘delayed’.
Although my order still links to a ‘Page not found’ message, they have yet to cancel – which I’m fully expecting to happen sooner or later. On the upside, that’s £271 that I can’t afford unspent.
Mine too. It was due to be delivered on Tuesday afternoon, then delayed at 11:45am. I wonder what’s up?
What with all the talk of signed albums or cards, today I finally collected, or should I say my wife did on my behalf, my signed Brian Johnson book. And he’s it signed it brilliantly – legible, flowing, neat – exactly what I want from a signature. I ordered this eighteen months ago, and had to change my payment details, as in the meantime my payment card had expired. This caught me out last year with the Bobby Gillespie signed book, where Waterstone’s cancelled my order.
I’m a real fan of the signed art cards, even in cd size. I’ve lost count of the amount of signed items I’ve got for £10 via amazon when an album is released. If a cd or LP is signed, even better.
Joan Armatrading’s forthcoming live cd has a signed art card. I watched it the concert on the BBC recently and it was weird watching a lock down concert with zero applause in between songs. It didn’t stop the performances from being great.
All those complaints on the Beatles Revolver Super Deluxe Edition? It is such a great album and there are so many “new” outtakes not known before including the composing tape of Yellow Submarine. It should all be about the music – which is great!
The complains are about pricing, wasting space on the CD box and leaving out content that was on all previous super-deluxes. I can understand and fully agree on that.
Musically the 2CD is highly interesting and OK in price.
But all this complaining and whining is useless. What does it mean “wasting CD space”? I don’t like the CD-EP’s either but that’s no reason to complain IMHO and not to buy. And yes, it is expensive, but prices are prices, no- one has to buy at set like this.
I am sure that the music is great! I wouldn’t want to buy it if I suspected it wasn’t. I am very interested to hear the outtakes. The Super Deluxes are just too expensive though, and this time we are being denied the chance to own the surround mix on a disc. So yes, mucho complaining!
The digital-only expanded version of Shabooh Shoobah should be packaged with the live INXS album coming out this week as a deluxe edition. I’m hoping it happens sometime.
Communards fans may be interested to know that Jimmy Somerville appears on a couple of tracks on “Hideous Bastard”, a recent solo album by Oliver Sim from The xx. It’s a really good album, too.
And, while I’m here – how good is that recent Suede album?!
Suede’s Autofiction is absolutely fantastic. Hasn’t left my player for the last couple of weeks. The pinnacle of their comeback (thus far) IMHO.
Same here. I’ve really enjoyed the comeback albums but Autofiction is up there with their very best. It sounds to me like the evil twin of Coming Up. Middle age has never sounded so vital !
Oh no, I am very disappointed that the Revolver set is coming out this week. I have been dreaming of the announcement that good sense had prevailed and it was going to be scrapped and reformatted to include a Blu-Ray. I see it is still a super deluxe price despite having the most deluxe element removed. Have these people not heard of the cost of living crisis? Well, they can stick it. I would like the new Wilco set also but I haven’t got many organs left to sell.
Of course if there is a nice deal alert I will get it… will just have to go without the surround mix.
Also out this Friday PG Roxette, (Per Gessle Roxette), Pop-Up Dynamo
And it’s a good one. It’s a pity he doesn’t have the relevance he deserves out of Sweden even with this new version of Roxette
Ordered Weller. I know I’ll kick myself later, if I wait.
This is the first of the Beatles boxed sets about which I am less then excited. All because of the lack of a blu-ray. The announcement of this set was the first instance of the blu-ray/streaming switch for a multi-channel mix that unfortunately is quickly becoming the norm. And I suspect that the contracts between the labels and Apple/Tidal are exclusive so it will be out of reach for limited boutique physical releases like the SDE Surround Series. Multi-channel mixes on blu-rays/DVDs were my biggest incentive to keep buying physical music. With this change it’s getting much harder to justify purchasing these big boxes.
It’ll be interesting to see the sales figures of Revolver compared to the previous box sets. I’ve pre-ordered all the previous Beatles box sets but I’ve passed on this one for now, hope others who were also disappointed the atmos mix wasn’t included in the box set did the same.
I ordered then cancelled too. I’m content with the Pink Floyd Animals release for now – love how prominent Rick Wright’s keyboards are in Surround Sound, particularly on Dogs!
Revolver is one of my favourite all-time albums and although I reckon Apple/the retailers are gouging fans with their obscene pricing* I have to have the SDE LP Box. Good luck to those who wait for the inevitable price drop, I need this on my turntable this coming Friday.
*And no feckin’ Bluray.
I am a big fan of Loreena McKennitt and have her complete collection on lp signed and purchased one at a time directly from her website. All have had her sign on the front cover of the lp except the 20th anniversary edition of Book of Secrets(her most popular lp with The Mummer’s Dance) which is a box set signed on the front by her. And because of this, there is no bag to protect the autograph from scuffing from usage. And also. there is no single lp release for this lp, so no signed lp cover. And her new lp, Lost Souls comes with a signed photo, so no signed cover again. I really wish these last two lp covers were signed.
The release of all time Paul, would be you working out a deal with EMI for a release of “Revolver” on SDE Blu Ray ATMOS.
Hey…..a guy can dream can’t he? :-)
What is EMI, …apart from long gone?
On the debate about signed items, logistics really are the major factor. With the forthcoming (December) 33CD/2DVD Horslips set from Madfish, there are five band members – three in Dublin, one in County Clare and one in Whitby. It is simply not feasible to have (a) all five sign one item, even a portable one (i.e. posting one set of 2,000 photos around five people – far too much risk) (b) have them fly in to a location in London once the box set has arrived from manufacturing. Rather, in this instance, a set of (fabulous) 1976 individual portraits were printed and the relevant ones sent to the five members for signing. These were then sent to the manufacturer for inclusion within the box, thus saving time (compared to a post-manufacturing signing situation, let alone the geographical issues).
33 CDs ? Who are Horslips ???
@Remi:
Irish folk rock band, originally active in the 1970s, reformed in 2005 after disbanding in 1981.
They seem to be the first popular band that successfully combined Celtic Folk with rock music
Nearly right, Klaus! Reformed in 2004 (on the back of a fan-curated memorabilia exhibition in Derry/Londonderry, but only for a new album and a couple of Irish TV shows – no public concerts). They reformed as a functioning live unit in December 2009 with two arena shows in Belfast and Dublin – Eamon Carr (original drummer) giving Ray Fean his blessing to drum on these shows and almost all live dates thereafter (Eamon did perform live once with his old band, at an Ulster Hall show in 2011) – followed by a handful of gigs/festival dates each year up to the end of 2019.
The original disbanding was at an Ulster Hall show in Belfast on 10 October 1980. That (terrific) final gig appears in full on the box set. Although the band/band name retired from live performance when it became clear during lockdown that one member, Johnny Fean (lead guitar), wished to do so, two of the band – Barry Devlin (bass/vocals) and Jim Lockhart (keys/flute/vocals) – have been active in several live performance and media events this year (the band’s 50th anniversary year), including guest appearances at multi-artist events doing Horslips material with Ray Fean on drums and guest guitarist Fiach Moriarty. This quartet are due to perform at the ‘Oh Yeah’ Awards show at the Ulster Hall next month, when Barry receives this year’s ‘Legend’ award, and Barry and Jim will perform Horslips numbers with the Pat McManus Band at a Horslips Fan Convention in Belfast, also next month. I don’t know for sure, but I imagine Barry and Jim might hang up their instruments after this year. Still, who knows – they seem to be enjoying it :-)
Here is an 80-minute online TV / BBC Radio Ulster interview they gave Ralph McLean on March 17 this year – the very day that marked the band’s 50th anniversary;
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0bvpvs5
Hi Colin,
thanks for the thorough explanation.
As you are obviously much more into the band than i’ll ever be maybe you can help me out with the search for a band that would be influenced by The Horslips but has possibly started a decade later.
I attended a gig by The Hothouse Flowers in late 1988 where a tape with music similar to The Horslips was played before and after the show but it was even a bit more on the rockier side and mostly instrumental (without vocals).
I could still kick myself today for not asking the guy on the mixing desk what it was at the time…
Was it not just a obscure hot house flower’s instrumental??
How very dare you!
A fantastic-looking box set that was an instant purchase for me. Even the delay didn’t bother me. By the time the box is released, it’ll be like getting it for free, as the outlay was months ago.
I have the five members on a few things already (the poster from The Táin and the Book of Invasions LP), but the reproduction stills look amazing.
I got the Deluxe version of Marillions album Clutching At Straws which was signed by all apart from Fish . He was only signing if you got it from his web site. Annoying or what!
Well, it’s an artist trying to make a living. The Fish man, I believe, has always been very open in recent years about tough it is for a cottage industry artist to make a living. In the times in which we live, I don’t think we should hold it against an artist in that situation – encouraging people to buy from him and receive the bonus (if it means something to them) of his autograph. Not only will he be receiving whatever his agreed cut of the artist percentage is from Universal/Sony/whoever-owns-that-album (along with the other band members from that time), he will also – as a RETAILER of the set – be receiving additional funds in that context (the difference between dealer price and retail price). The other band members are not being disadvantaged in any way by this – they still receive their artist percentage with every sale, from whichever shop.
In a 1 to 10 annoying factors!!
I would say that it’s off the scales!!?
I would suggest that Ukraine, climate disaster and cost of living are just a few things that might be more annoying. Would they be even further off those scales or should we just stick to the 1-10 and revise Fish making a living down a bit?
Fish- scales!!!
Very good! :-)
Thanks Colin
Out on Friday is the Damned ‘Night of a Thousand Vampires’. Recorded live at the Palladium Theatre in London on Oct 28th 2019. It’s available on various formats but I’ve opted for the 2 CD and bluray edition.
Brilliant that’s my Xmas present to myself sorted, Blu-ray for me,
Pre ordered Revolver on single and double CD. Will wait again on a (hopefully) reduction on the boxes.
Speaking of digital-only expanded editions, I was disappointed that Sting’s people chose to release a digital-only expanded version of Nothing Like The Sun last week. The extra content isn’t bad and would make for a nice CD2. With the Wiltern Theater show from that tour, it would have made for a really nice 4 CD set. A Blu Ray with 5.1 and/or Dolby Atmos mixes would have made a REALLY nice 4 CD/BR set. Oh well.
It would be better if rather than giving signed random photo inserts, ‘artwork’, postcards etc, that a 12” x 12” printed copy of the albums cover art was signed and sent (or CD sized copy with CD’s).
Unsure when it came out but Sting’s “…And Nothing Like The Sun” got the equivalent of a double CD release streaming with b’sides and mixes. Second time he’s done that.
I received an email about this on Oct 13. Disappointing for sure as with the prior Soul Cages digital-only release. These need to be released on CD.
Anyone else getting fed up with LPs or CDs getting advertised as “signed copies” and when you receive them the actual LP or CD is not signed but comes with a signed card or photo? I pre ordered the new Hugh Cornwell LP and CD 6 months ago from Rough Trade which were described as a “Rough Trade Exclusive”. Just received them this morning. They are not signed but I have 2 small signed black and white photos. To add insult to injury they stuck the photos to the LP and CD with a large sticker. When I removed the sticker there is a lot of sticky residue left over which can’t be removed without damaging the photo further.
Oh and it wasn’t a Rough Trade exclusive either (they have a lot of form for advertising items as such when they are not their own exclusives and are available elsewhere). The same signed photo is available from his own web store. The reason I went with Rough Trade is because I was under the impression I was getting a signed LP and CD.
I think Paul or somebody else explained this before!!!
It’s easier to send the artist a box of photos to sign and then return than it is to send 1000 records.having said that they should be telling you wot your getting..and wot happens if all the albums a signed and nobody actually wants that person’s signature on the cover???
Bob Dylan,Paul mc cartney bring it on,,but let’s say it’s a Johnny hates jazz record do you really need the keyboard players signature all over it when all you want to hear is there classic,,,,,,, looking for Linda,,,
Wasn’t “Looking for Linda” Hue and Cry?!
Is this a game of Spot the Deliberate Mistake?
I have no objection to signed cards or photographs. I just wish they were advertised as such rather than being advertised as “signed CD” or “signed LP” and I can decide if I want the photo or card. As has been mentioned the signed 12 inch print of the album cover is really good. Not so keen on the autographed CD sized cards. They are too small in my opinion.
Yup. This stuff with “exclusives” tend to be scams half the time. Sunrise Records puts on a big sticker saying it has an exclusive when just about all independents can carry it.
But I don’t think they want the band or someone to rip open the plastic wrapping to sign the vinyl or LP. Signing a card is faster.
Received a Kate Miller-Heidke special edition “signed” cd. The signature was on a card inside the sleeve so it may have been faster to sign but some poor soul had to take the wrapping off, put the card in and then re-seal. Oh and the “signature” just said KMH. Could have been anyone’s. And let’s not forget the Van Morrison fiasco!
This was discussed a couple of years ago, when Paul Young was signing Tomb of Memories SDE. It would seem that most artists realise that to shift some physical product they need to add value, so a signature might fulfil that brief. It seems that most can’t be arsed to actually visit the Record labels to sign the actual albums and posting boxes of actual covers is beyond what they are prepared to do, so it’s something like a small box of 550 postcards (to cover 500 plus damages etc). It’s rare that people like Paul Young or St. Etienne will go to the bother of putting themselves in the vicinity of the album and signing the damn thing. Marillion / Fish have also signed the physical product, so fair play to them. A postcard just doesn’t cut it for me either.
At worst, a signed 12″ print like Go West is fairly acceptible as it was done well and looks beautiful.
It varies, some bands do a decent job like the recent Editors album by issuing an exclusive signed outer slipcase for the CD. Also the price was no more than the standard album.
Amazon signed exclusives also tend to be the same price as the standard release although granted there is a whole can of worms there (Van Morrison, cough, cough).
Rough Trade I’ve had a few issues with and tend to avoid unless the item is unavailable elsewhere and a true exclusive. The last signed item I purchased was a Mark Lanegan book and the signature was just on a sticker stuck inside the book. I appreciate heavy items like books aren’t practical to send back and forth from artist/author to publisher but it still grated when the book was well over 20 quid.
Sadly with Mark having departed this mortal coil I can’t grumble that much mind. What’s worse is sellers are shifting these things for silly money on ebay…
Burning Shed is pretty up front about what is being signed. When I pre ordered the SDE of Jethro Tull’s Heavy Horses a few years ago they said the first “x” number of orders would get a signed postcard from Ian, and that is exactly what I received and what was expected, so I was quite happy.
I got a postcard with “This Was” pre ordered from Burning Shed, but missed out on one being signed… so I addressed it back to them, stamped and my address & email details etc, and the comment “No Ian Anderson signature, No Thanks” … and guess what… I never heard anything !!!
I should be all for the Revolver SDE but, considering its possibly my favourite Beatles album, it’s woefully ill-judged lacking a Blu-ray and under using the CDs. What is that EP disc, some joke? It’s such a waste it’s a menace to the environment. And as commented many times elsewhere, the package is so overpriced, the whole thing is something of a tragedy in my eyes. I’d been looking forward to it for so long. I guess future Beatles SDEs will follow the same pattern.
It’s my fave MopTops album and like you i’m so disappointed with the box set.
Similar here. In a sad turn of events I’ve even cancelled my pre-orders of the superdeluxe boxes (CD and LP). I’m waiting until the price goes down. That’s the first time, for Beatles product since … 1992 I think.
Revolver is a desert island record for me. But this is really expensive, even for the Beatles. The CD boxset is worth 40 or 50 € but not more. And the “problem” with the Beatles is that the finished album is ALWAYS better than the alternate takes. So, unreleased material is not that interesting, compared to Bob Dylan for instance
Totally agree with you Remi, vastly overpriced for a remastered 4 track album!!!! Dylan bootleg series is a remarkable document of such a great artist.
Recorded on 4 tracks, yes, like Sgt Pepper. It’s still one of the best albums of all times
I’ll pick up the NOW Christmas vinyl & probably the Garbage comp (although I have the first 3 albums & that might be enough for me)… shame that the Communards vinyl (Red vinyl) has been pushed back yet again to an unknown date…
Beatles? They made some good pop singles, but are overrated for me…
For a blink of an eye the Now Christmas Vinyl dropped to £25.90 on Amazon, so anybody who ordered before that moment happened should get it at that price rather than £30. Every Little Helps.
Beatles overrated? From someone who’s buying Now Christmas, Garbage and Communards,
I wouldn’t have commented but you did say overrated after buying a load of garbage!!!
Oh dear, did I touch a nerve?
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions & taste in music and from what I’ve seen (on this website particularly) is quite a lot of musical snobbery…
Let people like what they want to like, and let people have their own opinions. Whilst the Beatles may have influenced a lot of artists through the years, it doesn’t mean everyone has to like them or rate them. But it’s fine if you do
I’d say this is one of the least snobbish forums out there. You not ‘rating’ The Beatles doesn’t mean they are overrated. Important distinction.
I totally agree with that! Try take a look at Opera, Classical, Jazz or Country forums and then we can talk about snobbish forums. This is what I love about SDE and I hope we can all keep it that way. Whatever rocks your boat… As long it’s not Il Divo of course :)
Or some of the old Numan forums, dear God they were horrendous and had a bizarre soap opera quality to them. You had one contingent of die hard British fans versus the North American Fan Club, it was comedy gold although took trolling to a whole new level for some of the miscreants involved.
Chubb, it was you who stated The Beatles were overrated for no reason whatsoever. So expect comments to the contrary from those who disagree.
Hi Golden Age… of course I would expect people to comment – surely that is the whole point of websites like this – for people to express their opinions (it’s also how Paul earns his money – the more people post/visit his site, the more money he makes!)
And that’s what mine is, an opinion. I do not rate them and I think that in general they are far too overrated by other people. Good pop songs, that’s about it…
I love many artists and bands who I’m sure lot’s of people would not like, and that’s fine, that’s how the world works.
Your post comes across as almost a troll comment (i.e. deliberately being provocative just to get a reaction).
Do you actually know anything about the Beatles?
Their legacy is not just a wealth of songs that a large percentage of the planet know at least some of and can sing (how many artists can you say that about?) but also the innovations they brought to how music was composed, arranged mixed and recorded. When a lot of chart music was being recorded in the UK by so-called beat combos (bass, guitar, drums and vocals) the Beatles managed to take the formula into the studio and innovate using the studio as another instrument.
As has been said – just because you dont rate something doesnt make it overrated. I dont like the Smiths for example but ‘overrated’ is not a word I would use to describe them as I know they mean a lot to a lot of people and did very much loom large and influence a lot of bands.
Not at all. I grew up in a very musical household, with the Beatles and many, many other types of music being played – so I know their catalogue well… so it’s not a troll comment at all (which is strange comment itself when I read a lot of people putting down reissues etc seemingly for the fun of it)…
And again, I feel that people overrate them – so it is how I feel.
Saying the Seal reissue isn’t very good is hardly the same as saying The Beatles are overrated… BUT ANYWAY… let’s just move on.
The Beatles overrated…hahahaha hahahaha hahahaha “….no …stop it….really…..”
I really rate Garbage too, seen them more times than any other band. But The Beatles overrated, hahahaha .. now that’s made me laugh a lot.
Thank You.
