The George Michael ‘store exclusive’ red vinyl isn’t anything of the sort.
I’ve seen it for sale at two bricks and mortar shops so far and their websites. Save yourself the £7.00 P&P the GM store are charging.
Meh, got my Rory Gallagher 50th anniversary Deuce box today. Whereas the First 50th Anniversary was a 13×13 vinyl sized box this one is 9.5×9.5 in size…. resembles John Lennon and Bobby Gentry boxes but much thinner. However, more substantial than the laughable package of the Irish Tour SDE. 1st world problems.
Patrice Rushen arrived yesterday and it’s very well presented. A snip at £19.
Seems like Royal Mail is delaying this week’s releases …
I love GM and bought the Older box set (which ended up costing only $128 on Amazon), the green vinyl and the Japanese CD, but my heart is really not in this one. This is one of my favorite albums in general and my favorite GM album and I feel so blasé about the release.
There should have been a DVD or Blu-Ray of the videos (which are being upgraded and released on youtube) or the unplugged video. And they should have added something truly exclusive on the audio side. The one track they are claiming is unreleased was in fact released and the 4 Amazon exclusive digital remixes are really rubbing more salt into the wound.
It’s a shame that an artist of his caliber is being treated so shoddily by his estate.
Wilko Foxtrot 8CD box set. Record companies take note this is how to do a box of a seminal album.
Triple red vinyl peter Gabriel lp !!!!!!
No, not the I/O album we are all waiting for and turning grey for…but a very reasonably priced triple red vinyl lp set of the “live blood” concert:
https://petergabriel.com/news/live-blood-lp-available-in-the-real-world-store/
not holding my breath – I needed to return the Secret World Live vinyl because it sounded so bad and muffled that I happily retreated back to my dvd audio rip to have San Jacinto correctly sequenced. Lots of cracks and pops as well on the vinyl. Growing Up Live on the other hand is not too bad.
Out this Friday is the brand new album from the multi-talented singer songwriter Richard Marx – “Songwriter” his 13th studio album, It features 20 brand new songs and covers 4 different genres of music so basically 5 songs in each category for Pop, Rock, Country and Ballads.
@All: just off topic. When new releases or re-releases, especially vinyl, are offered in different colours and/or formats, how do you decide which one you will get. Assuming that one HAS to decide at all. Thank you!
Had the white vinyl of Older in pre-order for months at Amazon Spain, but a week or two ago they suddenly cancelled my order! Very unhappy!
Ultravox SDE still not available from AMZ US. importcds.com has it available at full price for pre-order with a Dec 2 release date…
:(
George Michael Older-related digital-only mixes coming out on AMZ:
Featuring George’s incredible original vocals, four tracks have been remixed by new dance and electronic producers and collaborators including LF SYSTEM ‘Fastlove’, Emily Nash ‘The Strangest Thing’, Kiimi ‘Spinning The Wheel’ and ABSOLUTE. ‘Star People ‘97’.
JPC are typically cheaper than Amazon US to get European-produced boxed sets delivered to a US address, though it can take 2 weeks. They subtract German VAT, and have reasonable shipping. Currently, for the Ultravox, JPC are quoting EUR 56.99, but after substracting VAT and only EUR 3.50 for shipping to the USA, the total is EUR 51.39 or $49.30 because of the weakened Euro.
I ordered my Ultravox SDE from DeepDiscount, who are also showing the 2nd December as release date. Admittedly, I think DeepDiscount is ImportCDs in disguise (as well as WowHD).
I actually saw and held in my hands that GM Older big box 2 weeks ago…it’s pretty massive, heavy & white…I will get it, but not until I am back from my cruise, and after I see ticketed gigs by the Manics & Suede in Brooklyn & then Maneskin in Philly…expenses come first…as for that Shakespears Sister…will eventually get certain titles of HY30, getting the SDE BRA first…I do wonder what will arrive first…the SS or Gilbert O’Sullivan?? I did order the Brian Eno one just in time as well…
Big week for new releases:
Lambchop
Preoccupations
Pixies
Bjork
The big pink
Getting Bjork & Brandi Carlisle…
Also out this week:
Glenn Gould The Goldberg Variations – The Complete Unreleased 1981 Studio Sessions 11 CD box-set released on Sony Classical (Sony Music).
Kris Kristofferson Live At Gilleys Pasadena, TX September 15, 1981 released on New West Records Inc. (H’Art).
Buddy Guy The Blues Don’t Lie released on RCA International (Sony Music).
Status Quo Heavy Traffic 3 CD released on UMC (Universal Music).
Status Quo Riffs 2 CD released on UMC (Universal Music).
Paul used to plug Quo a bit, but I guess those days are gone…
According to http://www.dictionary.com: “A plug (or the plug) is a person who has the ability to get or supply hard-to-find items, especially drugs“.
I believe that Paul is married with children and that Quo are quite old guys so I hope those days are gone…
LOL. I’m glad you didn’t go to Urban Dictionary, that could’ve yielded an even more malignant interpretation of my posting :D
What I meant was:
INFORMAL mention (a product, event, or establishment) publicly in order to promote it.
“during the show he plugged his new record”
(The current line-up actually has two quite young guys in it – Leon Cave is 44 and Richie Malone 36! But they’re not on any of the older albums.)
I need to keep an eye on that Glenn Gould, although I’ll need the price to come down a bit (it’s roughly a tenner a disc at the mo).
Besides, I’m still working through the Complete CBS Recordings (80+ discs). Now that was a bargain – little more than a £1 a CD!
How times have changed…..
I agree with you and I don’t know if I really need it, but Glenn Gould is my favorite musician if I should pick just one, so I guess I’ll get it somehow sometime…
Looking forward to the Quo releases. Started collecting their post-2000 albums last year and I’ve been really enjoying them.
I enjoy them plugs too :)
On Amazon Spain ” older” George michael vinyl it was ready for sale from 16 September
Saw this on the Eric Clapton official website dated September 22:
Eric Clapton’s catalog of studio albums recorded between 1983 and 2010 plus three live albums have, since first release, been licensed to Warner Records but are now moving to Surfdog Records on 1st October 2022.
Eric has enjoyed working with many individuals at Warner over the years, but with the greatly changed landscape of the music business and the increasing significance of streaming income, it has been decided to take a different approach to the marketing of the catalog.
In recent years, Eric has collaborated with and been impressed by Dave Kaplan and Surfdog on several new record releases in North America, including his last four studio albums, and is also now looking forward to working with Surfdog worldwide in relation to this catalog.
The Eric Clapton albums with Surfdog from 1st October 2022 include:
Studio Albums
1983 Money and Cigarettes
1985 Behind the Sun
1986 August
1989 Journeyman
1994 From the Cradle
1998 Pilgrim
2001 Reptile
2004 Me and Mr. Johnson
2004 Sessions for Robert J
2005 Back Home
2006 Road to Escondido – Eric Clapton & JJ Cale
2010 Clapton
Live Albums
1992 Unplugged
2002 One More Car, One More Rider (Live at Staples Center LA)
2016 Live in San Diego
Wonder what this means going forward regarding getting updated, remastered, SDE’s, or streaming of this catalog. I actually really like his new single quite a bit “Pompous Fool” – regardless of his politics.
I’m the other way, his idiotic comments in recent times have put me off the guy altogether, so I got rid of all his albums and there was a lot. However I will admit to double standards, Van Morrison was equally as guilty of the same but I only refused to buy his latest album. That’s the first time I’ve done that with the Irish Grump. Maybe I appreciate VM’s back catalogue to EC’s.
I admit to binning a couple of old Billy Bragg tapes recently.
Why, what did he do?
And don’t forget Morrissey, the king of foot in mouth antics…I have a prob with EC but for some reason, not VM, because at least there is some kind of sardonic humour in his comments that I just laugh…
I personally admire any artist who is daring enough to speak their mind and go against the narrative.
Unfortunately we live in a society that is too afraid to look outside the box and cancel anyone the minute they upset their delicate sensibilities. Roger Waters being this week’s agitator of choice…
Weird, no 24 Nights. Maybe tied up in songwriting credit rigamarole?
Also out Friday is the Van Der Graaf Generator box ‘Interference Patterns’. Pretty much everything they have done (collectively), since reforming in 2005. It looks like there is live material here that’s exclusive to the box, or hard to find separately, which is tempting me to bite despite having all the later studio releases. Good to go with the recent Charisma Years box which is now readily available again after disappearing for a while. Does anybody know if this new box is 12” square like the Charisma one, or is it a CD sized clamshell affair?
Being a 14 disc set I would imagine it is a 12×12. Be rather silly to package it in any other way one would of thought. However with a price tag of just £75.99 it could turn out to be a clamshell affair. It’s something I had not thought of I must admit, and it would be nice to have it to complete the set especially it one could file them side by side… Just been checking through some of my clamshell boxes, and the biggest I have is Aretha Franklin’s The Atlantic Albums Collection which is 19 discs, so…..
I’m definitely interested in this one, having dived more deeply than ever into Van der Graaf with the purchase of the Charisma Years box. That really is a lot of Van der Graaf, though! I also just ordered a Japanese 2021 mini-LP CD reissue of Aerosol Grey Machine, which looks intriguing.
Going by the listed dimensions, it will be a clamshell.
Also out this week, the CD/Blu-ray release of the award winning documentary “Live From The Astroturf, Alice Cooper.”
This release chronicles the reunion of all living members of the original Alice Cooper Group during a 2015 surprise in-store performance at Good Records in Dallas, Tx.
Good Records is such a great music store! When I lived near Dallas, I used to go there all the time!
Good Records moved to a much smaller store 5 or so years ago and unfortunately is a shadow of its former self.
“Patrice Rushen’s Feels So Real: The Complete Elektra Recordings 1978-1984” 5 Cd set also out on Friday.
Thank you so much for pointing this out!! I thought this was a reissue of the similarly titled 2019 compilation, but actually this contains the first 5 complete albums. Ordered !
Talk about an antidote to the recent big box, over priced, no Blu-ray bollocks from GNR, Seal, and The Beatles. £22 buys five remastered albums, all with additional 12” versions / instrumentals, and a 32 page booklet.
I really enjoyed the single disc Classic Elektra Recordings from 2019, so I’m going to spend my hard earned money on Patrice’s new box set.
Yeh but The Beatles were slightly better than that lady. This is of course my opinion. But I’m correct. ;- ))
I agree, The Beatles are top of the pops. I’ve never bought the argument that because your music is slightly better / more popular, that you charge more. The Beatles, Pink Floyd and others got rich because they shifted many more albums, sold at a similar price to less popular acts.
I’m old enough to remember the days when record shops sold all albums at similar prices. It didn’t matter whether you were The Beatles or Jive Bunny. And if the record was a year old they didn’t bump the price to double the original. Hats off to the Patrice Rushen set. That’s the way it should be done whether it’s Revolver or not. I only know ‘Forget Me Nots’ but that’s a brilliant song.
Er, Patrice is a lady or isn’t he!
Down to £19 on Amazon.co.uk.
Thanks for the heads up on this. Great value for a wildly underrated artist. Saw on the official Strut label site that the booklet even includes full lyrics as well. Her jump from jazz to R&B/Pop was not easily received back in the day, but she should have been a bigger artist. It was her self-funded PR that helped break “Forget Me Nots” since Warner wouldn’t get behind the single. Imagine a world without that gem (and “Fastlove”)!
The George Michael vinyl release is already out in other countries. I’ve just been to Dubai and last week they had several copies for sale in the Virgin Megastore in The Mall of the Emirates.
If anyone is interested in Taylor Swift – the upcoming new cd – Deluxe Target Version is available at JPC Germany!!
It´s the Lavendel edition : three bonus tracks!!
The wife says thank you and awesome!
The ‘Target’ vinyl & CD are also on her official website in the UK too!
The Kinks’ new Muswell Hillbillies / Everybody’s in Show-Biz set is out on Friday too.
That came out a few weeks ago..
Oh I’m sorry, I must have been looking in the wrong place. I was wondering why you skipped it.
Never mind, I see it now! It didn’t turn up when I typed “Kinks” in the search field.
well here in the US it was pushed back to the 30th
I believe a Pentangle 6CD set I curated for Cherry Red is out on Friday – ‘Through the Ages: 1984-95’. The six albums from that ‘reunion era’ plus 27 unreleased tracks (16 BBC session and 11 soundboard recordings).
Wilco’s massive Yankee Foxtrot Hotel box is out on Friday
This is very exciting! Getting some great reviews too
This looks like the box set/reissue of the year.Either 8 CD’s or 11LP’s of one of the seminal albums of the last 20 years.
Content looks amazing and given the long and convoluted recording history of the album the steps on the way will be a great listen.
Can’t wait for the 8 CD Wilco box set and also “Doggerel” by Pixies this week.
It seems that those who purchased via Wilco’s store are already receiving their orders.
I got tired of waiting for the physical release of Wilco’s Cruel Country album and ordered the no frills pre-release from the band’s EU online site.
Amazon (US) is currently showing it for $69.23 — lowest I’ve seen.
Any idea what the cost would be for uk delivery? It’s still £100 here.
I changed the delivery country to the UK and it told me “$0.00 import fees deposit and $10.23 shipping.”
Thank you. Let me check the current GBP to USD rates. Oh……. Still a good saving though.
