  1. Hi Paul,
Is the audiophile mastering of the “Nonetheless” Blu-ray truly audiophile, meaning without compression applied in the mastering process, or does audiophile simply mean it’s the same mastering as the standard editions, but in higher resolution?
    Thank you,
    Dan

      1. Dr.loudness says the stereo mixes are DR5 which suggests considerable compression. But if that’s the way it comes then there’s no comparison though I’ve seen some Atmos mixes have much higher DRs than stereo mixes of the same album/release.

  2. Wasn’t expecting delivery until Saturday at the earliest, yet here it is. Fantastic.

Not sure about the slipcase though. Very matt finish looks a bit grainy. I was expecting something a bit shinier or spot varnished like the PSB Further Listening sleeves. Or at least one like the SDE series.

I think the only exception in the SDE series from the ones I’ve purchased was the Eno one which again was very matt and looked a bit faded.

    Aside from that I’m happy.

  3. Another instant order, thanks again
I’m thinking the labels are starting to see the value in supporting this kind of physical format. I remember your initial releases being in the 1000-1500 units range, now it seems to be 3000 plus. That speaks volumes, and is a credit to your hard work in securing them, especially as there have been a few new album releases as well as reissues. Long may it continue

  4. Ordered, thank you. I must admit I am pretty clueless when it comes to Dolby Atmos but as it has the Pet Shop Boys name on it i will have to buy it. I’ll figure out what equipment I need later as I have a few of these DVDs now and it’s looks as though this format is going to be more popular in the future.

  5. Ordered! Thank you for securing that kind of deal Paul.
About Dolby Atmos, people should be aware that the pre-amplifier which decodes Atmos is the key component to enjoy this format properly.
Whereas a PCM/DTS-HD/Dolby True HD 5.1 track is discrete and the sounds/instruments/music will always be played in the same speakers regardless of the pre-amp, a Dolby Atmos stream is purely a software decoding. Reading the atmos meta data and using it to select a speaker to play the sound into is done by the decoding chip in your pre-amp. The results can be dramatically different between an entry-level device and a mid/top of the range homecinema gear. I have upgraded my amp a few month ago and I can tell you that (using the pure direct mode) the difference was striking. The balance and the localization of the instruments were really better on the new gear, which was in the same price range, but the new amp is a 2023 model whereas the old one was a 2018 model. Software decoders have moved a long way forward during this time frame.
So if you are finding the atmos mixes to be underwhelming compared to a 5.1 DTS-HD or PCM stream on the same disc, with the same plying gears, I would recommend you upgrade your decoder, which is (unless you can invest in separate devices) usually integrated in your amplifier.

    1. my set up is a bluray player going into an atmos soundbar. I’ve been able to discern some surround elements, but still haven’t sorted out my rear speakers yet.

  6. Instant preorder for me as well.
    Thanks Paul for this exclusive.
I would really get an instrumental mix too as the boys did this with Elysium and Hot Spot.

  7. Nice addition to the various other formats i’ve already ordered. Not overly impressed with the video for Loneliness but quite like the song.

  8. I’m sure this release with SDE will give the PSB’s a number one album. Smart business by them and Paul, and great for all of us. Give the people what they want and sales ensue – that’s the way life is!

  9. Great catch Paul, though it is not for me. Please or Actually would be an automatic purchase but I left the PSBs behind in the 80s.

But I do have to ask why it seems that Blu-rays with Atmos mix are starting to omit a dedicated 96/24 5.1 mix? I often find a 5.1 mix has more “oomph” (to use a technical term :-)) than Atmos and a better choice if the Atmos mix does not use the rear and ceiling speakers well.

Atmos is only 44/24 so any fold down to 5.1, is less the 96/24 and may be a function of the player/amp and not the artist or mixer’s intention. Please correct me if I am wrong about the technical aspect of 5.1 fold-downs.

  10. This seems to have pleased a lot of people judging by the comments. I’m pleased I don’t own a blu-ray player or I might have been tempted. Already ordered coloured vinyl and double CD. Roll on the end of April!

  11. Is there any information who did the Atmos Mix? IT can be Hit or Miss. The Blur Blu-ray was more a miss in terms of the Atmos Mix is very subtle. Hope of your connections for further releases. Would like to see titles from
Talk Talk, FgtH, Propaganda, Sade, Moloko, Tricky, Portishead, Grace Jones, Dead Can Dance to name a few.

  12. Wow !! This is another fantastic coup for you Paul and your team. I didn’t think you’d be able to follow up the Wham double whammy but you surprised us all. It’s a YES from me . Ordered !!

  13. Ordered the bluray + 2CD. I hadn’t ordered the 2CD yet, did order the 2LP from the official PSB store, but I’d rather support the SDE store. Hopefully the album will be any good given the money spent :)

    1. I need some more space,
      this is hopeless!
Might as well get rid of my bed and start sleeping on the floor..
Well done Paul, now how about ‘Please’?

    1. Blood Recs should try to match those sellers with pre-orders, cancel them and permaban them. There is no valid excuse why those people should be allowed to buy even one copy if only to resell it, especially at 5x the price!

      1. Great idea but none of the retailers selling the initial products seem bothered about this. Some have restrictions on how many you can buy but buyers will just use multiple accounts. It’s the buyer that causes the issue. Why on earth would you buy something on eBay when you can still get it from the original source? (Note: Blood Recs Pic Disc now Sold out but they went on sale when it was still in stock on BR). same with the BR sold at SDE. YOU CAN STILL PRE-ODER IT WITH SDE so why are people buying it for 2wice the price on eBay? Baffling!

        1. Is anyone buying stuff on eBay that is still available from the original source? Just because people list stuff doesn’t mean it’s necessarily selling…

          1. Check the “sold items” on a listing – you’d be surprised (especially when it’s selling for more than Amazon are charging… that I really don’t understand).

      2. Blood Records DO try to match resellers with the orders where they can & cancel orders – he posts about it quite a bit. It’s not always possible, but they do what they can. They also then ban these resellers from ordering in the future from their site.
It’s a lengthy process, but they’re doing their bit.

        1. We cancel orders where people order 10 copies and the like. I mean, there is normally only one reason that people are ordering 10 copies of something…

  14. Ordered. Cancelled Amazon order for double CD and went for bundle. Would have been good to have extra videos, if any being made, but probably tricky as regards production lead times. PSB can be very ‘fussy’ /controlling re: releases so this is a real coup. I think in the last issue of Annually one of them mentioned they didn’t know what Atmos was iirc.

  15. Hopefully if we ask nicely they will add either an instrument mix of the album or the additional re-recordings in Atmos….please.

    1. Hear, hear! That would actually get me off the fence. :):):)

Sometimes I hesitate about buying a BD-A because of the cost with the rate exchange, but extras like those almost always make me pounce.

  16. So exciting! Although I’ve always managed to pass on your previous Blu-ray offerings, this one was impossible to resist. With Pet Shop Boys promoting it on social media and on their own site, it’s bound to sell out quickly. Congrats, Paul!

  17. Hi Paul, Question: Is this part of the SDE Blu-ray serie (Nr. 21) or is this one SDE Exclusive and not available elsewhere ? Thanks ! Keep up the GREAT work ! Cheers.

    1. Thanks! Happy to answer these questions. This is not officially part of the SDE Surround Series, although PSBs have given SDE an exclusive. It’s not available anywhere else right now although it could become available elsewhere (artist store etc.) at a later date. However this slipcased version is totally exclusive to SDE. Hope that helps.

  18. Oh wow wow WOW thank you Paul, what a scoop-surely the older albums might now be considered for releasing in this format (fingers crossed), literally instant order

    1. I heard they had always said no way to Atmos mixes of older albums…. but if this is financially successful, I’m sure they will do it. We can hope!!! Congratulations SDE.
