  1. Did you people do a new manufacturing of Tears for Fears The Hurting? As I got an email this morning say it became available for preorders? Thank-you for any information, D.

  2. As for the Songs from the Big Chair 2014 SW surround mix, I think that in “Shout” when the real drums appear at around 3:20 min into the song, the drums are a bit to heavy (in the back speakers). Also the vocal from Roland Orzabal, in that same 2014 mix are weak, due to the 5.1 handling – Rolands voice deserves better. Would have been better, with a 5.1 mix of the original album, making it sound like the original version – and all in all, i never listen to the 2014 surround mix. Hope that The Hurting won´t be to much “2023 remixed” and that the Atmos mix will do the trick, to make the album sound amazing, which the album does/deserves. I do know, that my 5.1 setup is not the best, making the remixed surround version sound “so different”! But love these blu-ray 5.1 releases from SDE….

      1. It’s not out yet, but people already sell it for more. That must be annoying and perhaps you can stop it, if you want to. It’s just a thought, you are the one who decides what you do. If you don’t want to/can’t offer, why not beat these people by offering these blu rays on ebay or another forum too at your (regular) price, so that people who want to make profit on your work are excluded automatically by your price setting and in a way that people like me can pay their international TVA via ebay or so before shipping. (That would save me at least 15.75 euro.) Ordered though, customs or not. This is a release i’m so pleased with. It’s ok to me to delete my first message including replies. Cheers Eric

        1. It is annoying, but in my list of priorities stopping the odd person reselling isn’t too high on my agenda. I’d rather spent the time trying to make the next release happen. Also it looks like we are going to do 7k of The Hurting so it’s not really a case that it’s Uber limited and “real fans” are being denied.

          1. 7.000 units.
Wow. When you’re a registered seller it will make a huge impact in the charts, …if they still count sales UK’s charts?

          2. “we are going to do 7k of The Hurting”

            You nearly gave me a heart attack there – for a minute I thought, “There’s a 7K? I don’t have the technology to play 7K! I can’t even play 4K yet!” LOL :)

Now that my brain is working and my heart-rate has returned to normal…

While I’m here, Paul, just a quick thank you for the Orbital SDE which arrived a couple weeks ago. Keep up the awesome work.

    1. Whenever you buy something it’s yours to keep so you can do whatever you want with it. Anbody who never preordered on this site and are stupid enough to pay those prices on ebay get what they deserve.

      1. Fleabay used to have a rule that stated you had to be in actual possession of the item you were selling. Is that still the case?

Pre-selling something you don’t have yourself yet is one small step away from dropshipping. What if the item you’ve sold to someone without even seeing it doesn’t turn up or is bent in half by your caring postperson?

  3. Concert for George arrived, looks fantastic. No slipcase though? Are they going to be available later? Apologies if I’ve missed a note about this at some point!

      1. Seems a strange position for the company to take, it’s a form of protection for the case and will probably look like main cover anyway! You have to wonder how they think at times..

  4. I love this release for sure, my preference is for well mastered 24/96 Hi Res stereo 2 channel (physical if available or download if not) but I do buy a lot of vinyl (half speed if available) especially where the 24/96 stereo is not available physically (so I own it physically) or even at all. I do want to own my music physically so vinyl (preferably half-speed mastered) with a free 24/96 stereo LPCM download is my absolute ideal, but physical Blu Ray/DVD with 24/96 LPCM stereo is the next best thing.

Now here’s the thing with Blu Ray (DVD) I never actually play a physical Hi Res Blu Ray (DVD) because I will rip it to FLAC and stream it from my server to my streamer. This is because from a pure audiophile perspective no Blu Ray or DVD player can complete in terms of audio only Hi Fi, in my case my Naim streamer. Blu Ray and DVD players are not engineered for ultimate sound quality. I do not have Blu Ray or DVD playback on my stereo.

      1. I use Make MKV to make a copy of the entire Blu Ray onto my Mac and then use DVD Audio extractor on the Make V files. However I only rip 2 channel LPCM tracks.

          1. When you use DVD Audio extractor open the entire folder created by Make MKV, don’t try and find the right folder..,,

      2. You could try ‘Music Media Helper6’, a software package developed by someone on quadraphonic quad. If you use make mkv to extract the files from the Blu-ray, you can use the above software to extract flac files (5.1 or stereo). Alternatively, Foobar can convert mka files to flac and you can use a filter to go from 5.1 to stereo.

  5. Seeing as everyone else is asking for a slip cover for the xPropaganda then could I get one with my order please. I’m not normally this cheeky but if you don’t ask..,,
Got the message about Concert for George so I’m looking forward to it arriving.
Re: future Blu-ray audio, Did I read that Steven Wilson would like to mix Talk Talk’s albums? It was it a dream? ‘The Colour Of Spring’ Can you imagine how amazing that would be?
(Can’t find an emoji of a head exploding)

    1. https://www.innerviews.org/inner/wilson2.html
If you could remix any albums by any artists, no matter how improbable they might seem, what would they be?

Talk Talk’s Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock would be fantastic. We were close to doing them until Mark Hollis decided he didn’t like the idea of them being remixed. Those records would lend themselves to surround so well.

  6. When I was 18 and had just started to earn some money, I made the decision that I’d try and buy a new vinyl album every week, each one by an artist or band that I didn’t really know much about. Sometimes I chose badly, but more often I ended up with something which I fell in love with.

Moving on another 44 years (I’m getting to the point, honestly…) I had to make another decision, namely to stop buying CDs pretty much entirely. I’ve got enough physical music to last the rest of my life and I can always stream anything new. And then the SDE Dolby Atmos series was announced and I suddenly found not only a reason to buy more discs but, perhaps more importantly, it took me back to the days when I was discovering new music or music by bands that I’d previously ignored.

So many, many sincere thanks for that Paul, but can I also make the point that I suspect there are more than a few people who (like me) have bought every disc in the series precisely because they like the variety. Two Tears For Fears releases are quite enough for me and, regardless of the quality of the rest of their back catalogue, I hope this doesn’t end up turning into a TFF reissue label, as some would like to see happening based on comments elsewhere.

    1. Paul can release all the Tears for Fears he likes, and I hope he does. No one is forcing you to buy everything. None of these releases would exist if it were not for Paul’s enterprising ways…This is my second surround series buy, the other was The Tipping Point, I hope Paul’s Boutique offers TFF’s entire catalogue in the HD series. To each his own.

      1. So out of ten (is it ten? I think it’s ten) releases so far, you’ve only bought two and they were both by TFF. I think, to be fair, all you’re doing is proving my point, which is that the appeal of the series (for people such as myself who buy every disc) is the variety.

        1. Yeah but the point is there isn’t a gun pointing to anyone’s head saying you must buy anything and/or everything. I get your point that it’s been quite an eclectic collection so far but two releases by the same band is hardly overkill let’s be honest. I’m a bit more reserved the older I get simply as like you I think I’d need more than one lifetime to really appreciate the music I own.

        2. I think we all have different reasons for purchasing all or some of this series – for some, like you, it is the variety, for others it is the compulsion to collect, for some it is to support Paul and what he is trying to achieve, other purchasers like that these are limited, some might think these are an investment, some buy to get a few more albums in their collection in physical spatial audio, and for some other buyers it is to dip in and cherry-pick the titles they prefer. I’m not even sure why I’ve purchased 9 of the 10 titles (I hesitated on one, and it sold out before I could decide) – but it is probably a little bit of each of the reasons I’ve listed above. Even though only 4 of the titles I’ve ordered have been delivered, I’ve listened to all 10 albums through other means and, for me, the 2 Tears for Fears albums are the highlight of the series – and I admit that a couple of the blu-rays I’ll likely never listen to. If it weren’t for TfF Tipping Point being the first one, I likely would never have started, so I’d be happy if more titles from Curt and Roland were in the offering.

        3. If there’s a title you’re not interested in, just skip it and don’t buy it. I’ve ordered all the titles so far with the exception of Orbital, and that was because I knew I wouldn’t play that particular title because it’s not my taste in music. I’m not a Tears For Fears fan either, but I’ve no issue if more albums are released in this series. The Tipping Point Blu Ray was decent and I’ve ordered The Hurting, as personally I find I often appreciate material more in surround. If there are any future titles I’m not interested in I’ll skip them.

    2. I think it’s a win for people like you and a win for TFF fan’s and a HUGE win for surround fan’s what Paul S. is doing. Not sure how long you have been buying surround titles but just like you I had enough lp’s and cd’s to last many life times but surround music brought back that fresh feeling of hearing things in a new way so surround titles have been my main purchase now for the past 20 years. Steven Wilson mixes are some of the best of the best and he only mix’s albums he loves so getting 2 TFF titles make total sense as Paul has been involved with TFF as well. Now if Paul S. doesn’t take on this challenge of getting this music physically into our hands we don’t have any of these 10 titles to be able to enjoy so I am thankful for whatever Paul S. makes available to us.

      1. I will gladly purchase all Tears for Fears “the Song’s from the Big Chair” reissues whether remixes or remasters/both, maybe ten years from now they’ll be some newfangled way to listen and I’ll buy again.
Not that big of a fan boy but they made some of the better music in the 80’s and today even, I was amazed to see in a 2022 video that Curt still has quite a vocal range and still achieves high notes.
Roland’s guitar playing reminds me of D. Gilmours, a soaring ethereal melodic bluesy style, not all the best players are fastest speed shredders.
I’ll give Steven Wilson the edge today especially with Atmos mixing but he’s in good company with Elliot Scheiner.
There are other good surround mixing engineers in the industry along with some not as experienced as Scheiner and Wilson.

#10 has to drop soon right Paul

  7. Probably the most anticipated SDE release so far for me. I think Paul deserves an MBE for services to physical surround music! Lol.
Thank God someone’s still taking an interest when most of the big record companies don’t seem to give a hoot.
I would also love to see anything by Prefab Sprout or Thomas Dolby given consideration for future SDE releases.

    1. You may reconsider when, I sincerely hope, the Tipping Point live SDE Blu-ray is released on this forum with the angelic interpretation of Suffer The Children by Lauren Evans. To me, that one will rank up there with all the others.

  8. I am so pleased that the stereo original mix will be the 24/96 digital master of the original analogue tapes done by Miles.

I will be ditching the 2013 Blu Ray with its compressed & loud remastering.

    1. Yes me too. I don’t have the space or cash for an Atmos setup so 96/24 stereo is great for me. My original blu ray sounds great to my ears, doesn’t sound compressed to me. I ordered mine last week, I would also like an xPropaganda slip cover if there are any left. Really looking forward to hearing this so a BIG THANKS to you Paul for this great blu ray series and everything else that you do to keep this superb site going.

      1. The 2013 remaster is not horrendous or crushed but it’s less dynamic than the original master, however it’s certainly clearer than the original. Whist it’s not an exact measure the average DR score of the original master was 13 where as the 2013 remaster included on the Blu Ray was 8.

I’m hoping for something clearer but with more dynamics.

  9. Ordered the first day I read about. Now knowing “The 1983 mix of The Hurting in hi-res stereo as remastered by Miles Showell for the half-speed mastered vinyl” is included, I am happy².
So now there is absolutely no reason to buy the vinyl again, apart for completist’s sake or having a “new” product of the same: The stereo-mastering is at least one step closer to the original on this blu-ray.
BTW: The vinyl was way overpriced by universal: A re-release with no additional efford but a remastering for the price, where new releases with two coloured discs come for the same price (not Depeche Mode *cough*, but Schiller), really pricey. My 40 anniversary disc is my 40 yr old original German pressing (with the international cover), somewehere there is a Dutch pressing with the child-cover as well in my collection…

I suppose this to be a perfect product.

    1. I would hope so, but I think TTP had a big buzz because of it being a new album – the first in eighteen years! The posting I made about that on Tumblr got much more attention than the one I made for The Hurting now.

  10. Ordered mine last week, good thing it’s still open (until tomorrow) as i was just on a vacation for almost 3 weeks & got home on the 8th & I may have missed it…didn’t pay for the WiFi on the cruise ship…expensive & crappy…is it possible to include the slipcase for the xPropaganda??

  11. I think this is an important release, Tears for Fears “the Hurting” in surround sound with Dolby Atmos instead of the original Blu-Ray which was 2.0 stereo…..Yeah….
Well Paul rinse and repeat, now will be the usual occurrence with the stragglers who are crying about not knowing about this release in time.
Those are the types who then get indignant when they see one listed for sale on another site through a 3rd party seller.
I just think it’s important to buy these so you can continue with the series, all of us I assume like surprises.
I’ve seen more then one comment about those who miss out…… 1st) “Oh’ crap I didn’t check my email (for 10 days) in time so I missed out will there be more available”?….. 2nd) “Oh by the way someone’s selling one on another site”. for shame……then they laugh because of getting that person’s order cancelled, mean people……
Oh and by the way Paul the TYA ASIT slipcover looks awesome haven’t gotten my copy yet but I did see one online already.

    1. I think peoples orders only got cancelled when Paul saw that they where buying multiple items to resell at profit, when sde readers where missing out,so no mean people laughing at getting others orders cancelled!!

    2. There’s been enough time for anyone who browses SDE to place an order so no one has an excuse to miss out unlike the limited 1000 run issues.
I only have a problem with someone selling on multiple copies when there’s a limited number but since this is a limited time offer, I can’t see anyone here missing out who wants a copy. If some people manage to sell multiple copies for profit, good luck to them but it won’t be me paying those prices.

      1. “No one has an excuse” is a bit harsh. A majority of music buyers doesn’t know SDE, and efforts to spread the news on various other forums are also not going to change much about that.

Obviously these releases are currently only possible with the preorder model, but if they continue to be successful, I would hope that eventually, a few more copies could be produced so that anyone who e.g. doesn’t want to buy blindly without reading reviews or someone who did, in fact, miss out due to being on vacation or whatever, would still have the chance to purchase the product regularly.

        1. @JulesRules
I did say anyone who browses SDE, obviously anyone who doesn’t know the site isn’t going to know about the release. The specific point I was trying to make is about the buyers who do frequent this site and write about missing out on releases because of the limited numbers and are then annoyed at seeing them for sale on secondary sites.

          1. Fair enough. Since you have to register to comment, I wouldn’t be able to immediately recognise whether someone complaining here is a regular SDE reader or just signed up a few minutes ago.

I’m always thinking about expanding the target group, certainly when it comes to TFF. And since the fixed number was exchanged for a preorder window, I would think that Paul also appreciates the word getting out as far as possible. So that’s why I wasn’t really thinking solely of the SDE “clique”, so to speak.

    3. I never really get the e-mail thing, I mean unless you are totally off the grid backpacking in the Amazon anyone can easily check their mail every few days worldwide. Even if on holiday or on a work trip to whinge about missing a mail seems daft. I mean SDE is an online website not a mail order catalogue so surely these people have internet access…

      1. Except that many of the SDE emails stopped coming over 6 months ago for me (and also for some others that responded when I posted about it). I even signed up again using both the same email address and my work one, but only the occasional email is received. The limited-number releases sold out in a day or three (Ten Years After, for example), and had I not begun monitoring the SDE site on a daily basis, I would not have known about it in time. Also, your Amazon example is a bit extreme – (I have already mentioned elsewhere here that) I am heading to the U.K. to do a 3-month walking holiday later in the year, mostly camping, and there are numerous periods during that holiday when I will not have WiFi access for around a week at a time, so I might be out of luck for any SDE Blu-ray releases then.
