SDE announces a second pressing of Tears For Fears’ The Tipping Point on blu-ray audio

Re-available due to overwhelming demand

After careful consideration and consultation with artist, record label and fans, SDE is today announcing a second pressing of the SDE-exclusive blu-ray audio of Tears For Fears’ acclaimed album The Tipping Point.

The band’s seventh album has been a massive commercial and critical success, when it was issued in February, hitting the top ten of the charts on both sides of the Atlantic and peaking at #2 in the UK.

The SDE-exclusive blu-ray contains Steven Wilson’s Dolby Atmos Mix and his 5.1 mix of The Tipping Point and is the only way to physically own these mixes (in fact, the 5.1 mix is totally exclusive). Steven’s work on this album has been raved about by the band, Tears For Fears fans and surround sound enthusiasts. It has also been noted that when the Dolby Atmos mix folds down to stereo, it’s significantly more dynamic than the standard stereo mix!

The good thing about listening to the Dolby Atmos Mix is you don’t have to listen to an album multiple times to get all the ear candy going on.

Roland Orzabal

The first edition was limited to 2,000 copies worldwide and it has become very clear over time that this figure significantly underestimated demand, leading to many fans either missing out or resorting to paying over the odds on sites like eBay and Discogs.

Back in March, I consulted with SDE readers on a possible way forward. Over 500 of you voted in a special poll. The question was: if we were to produce some more, how should we do it? The options were to come up with a ‘new and improved’ blu-ray or simply produce some more of the original one. Your voice was heard and 60 percent voted for the latter, deeming it an all round fairer solution to all parties (and in particular, people who own the original blu-ray).

Therefore, this second edition of The Tipping Point blu-ray will have exactly the same content as the first. However, both the disc and the rear of the cover/insert will state ‘Second Edition. June 2022‘, differentiating first pressings from second pressings.

Wilson has absolutely made excellent use of the surroundscape on every track, placing background vocals in the rears, adding synthesizers behind the listener sweet spot, plus layering reverberant ambience reflections from the back, with a wall of sound pouring across the front speakers

To be clear, the second pressing is still a limited edition, but this time the number produced is limited by time, rather than quantity. The pre-order window for the second edition opens today, 20 April 2022, and closes on 4 May 2022. If you recall, the first pressing sold out in 24 hours, but this time you have two weeks to get your pre-order in. Please do not miss out. The total number being produced will be published on SDE when we go into production.

The release date for this second pressing of this Tears For Fears The Tipping Point blu-ray audio is 17 June 2022. This product is only available via the SDE shop. To pre-order, use this link or the button below. Your order will be shipped during that week of release. We will endeavour to get your blu-ray to you as close to day of release as possible, but please note that is not a guarantee.

TECHNICAL NOTES: This blu-ray audio requires a blu-ray player. Decoding the Dolby Atmos mix requires a Dolby Atmos-certified soundbar or a Dolby Atmos-compatible AV Receiver/Amp. The Dolby Atmos mix will ‘fold down’ to 5.1 or stereo if a Dolby Atmos decoder is not detected. The DTS HD 5.1 mix should work with virtually all home cinema set-ups.
EU SHIPPING NOTES: If you are ordering from the EU please be aware that that goods may be subject to import VAT when they arrive from the UK. The prices the SDE shop charge you do not include VAT.

  1. Have received my blu-ray last week. I was surprised and grateful when it popped up in the SDE shop. Many thanks! Now, I wonder if there is the slightest chance for a copy of the SDE exclusive CD hiding somewhere and waiting for you to be rediscovered, Paul?

  2. Thanks Paul for this opportunity. I had bought this album on vinyl first and thought it was great. Having heard that the surround mixes were a wonderful experience, I was wondering when I would be able to get a copy of the sold out blu-ray. And it finally came true with the second pressing! It arrived two days ago and I’m enjoying the 5.1 mix now. It was worth the wait ! Next step: Atmos mix.
Just so everyone knows, I spent a total amount of 53,71€ to get a copy delivered here in France (even more than what I paid for the xPropaganda blu-ray). That much money would not have been an option before Brexit. But that’s the way it is now…

  3. I just received my copy here in the US a couple days ago, and Paul I’m quite happy with the sound on this Blu Ray! I don’t have Atmos capability but the 5.1 mix is a nice counterpoint to listening to the CD version. Just different enough from the regular album without getting overly separated in the channels, even at lower volume where sometimes multi-channel doesn’t really sound different. To my ears it also seems less ‘brickwalled’, if less overall compression was used that is a plus!! Hopefully this campaign was a success for the band and SDE, and more album releases like this will follow!

  4. I just received my copy of thev5.1 surround mix of tipping point and its sounds wonderful,I have the Yes box set that Steven Wilson did, and its so enlightening for its great sound! And this isnt any different as Steven has become the go to guy for these mixes! But thank-you to everyone involved, and I will be purchasing more music from SDE!

  5. Listened for the first time today.
This is the first Steven Wilson mix I’ve heard and THIS is how you do it!
It makes full use of the surround features without ever being gimmicky.

  6. I received my Blu-ray last week, enjoyed listening to the 5.1 mix which sounds immense, thanks for this 2nd opportunity and the speedy delivery, much appreciated Paul.

  7. I have just received a second edition pressing and I wanted to thank you for this excellent disc!

I’ve been rather addicted to surround mixes for 20 years or so, with a collection of DVD-A and SACD, but this is my first ever Blu-Ray audio disc and indeed my first Dolby Atmos mix. Even as a TFF fan, I was unaware of the original release, so thank you so much for the reissue!

    ‘My Demons’ in Atmos!!

  8. Saw them last week at the Forum in Los Angles where they played 7 or 8 songs from this album, been on rotation since then. Great stuff and love the surround mix.

  9. Signed artwork as part of a £60 bundle (black, green vinyl and CD) at recordstore.co.uk as of now 30 copies left. There’s also a pink version on their website.

  10. Remembered to order this evening, better late than never. I didn’t expect a second chance at the Blu-ray and wasn’t going to miss out again! Great album, looking forward to adding this on the shelf next to the SDE Exclusive CD. I also think it was a good move to have a time sensitive deal this time instead of the usual allocated number available, seems fair and hopefully more offers will follow in a similar fashion.

  11. What a wonderful album and STELLAR 5.1 from Steven Wilson!

    Kudos to all involved!

A special “Thanks” to Paul, for all your efforts getting this Surround Blu-ray to us (and Anne for fielding shipping enquiries).

I’m gonna have to purchase another 1 or 2 copies…

  12. Glad this is being offered again. I got it first time around and I’m getting a second edition as a collector.

Just wish people weren’t so set on limited editions and re-sale value. Would have loved it if the second edition contained even more extras.

Paul, what would have been considered as extras if that option had received more votes?

  13. Got it the first time round. It’s a quality product and good to see other fans able to get it and hopefully for Paul to make a bit of a profit.

    1. The price on the still available SFTBC box set is lower now at $90 then it was previously before a re-issue, this is the one to buy of Songs From The Big Chair if your anticipating it.
Get your 5.1 on Dvd-Audio instead of Blu-Ray, a great box set considering all the other disc’s and tracks with Demos and alternate mixes etc.

  14. I have the limited CD from here already (it’s a great album!) but am interested in this too. Can someone confirm what gear you’d need? Is a blu ray player (Xbox Series X) and TV/stereo speakers enough for the basic 2.1 set up? Appreciate I can add more speakers down the line but wondering if this is all I need to start with.

    1. I listened to it on a mediocre set of stereo speakers connected to a battered laptop, so your setup is already a step up from mine! :)
If the Atmos doesn’t play, there’s always the 5.1 to fall back.

    2. According to the back of the box it’s Dolby Atmos or DTS-HD compatible. I’m sure you’ll be able to play it as all these things are backwards compatible. Earlier Blu Ray Audio discs were 5.1 or 2.0 so I would conclude that it will probably play as 2.0 or even 2.1 on your current system. Chances are you’ll upgrade it in the future so I’d invest in the TFF (2.0 issue!!) as it’s a fantastic album that will sound amazing in years to come even if it doesn’t work straight away

  15. Seeing a constant stream of copies on eBay for $150 and more, a second edition is very welcome. I love second chances … and now that I’ve heard the album, I’m getting my own. :)

  16. Wow, based on all the comments, I guess this was the right choice! Congrats to Paul and all involved. I was lucky enough to get the first pressing on the blu-ray, and I LOVE it. However, I did miss out on the SDE CD with the three bonus tracks. I echo those comments that would like to see a reissue of that disc!

  17. A second run was definitely the right thing to do. Beat the flippers and let genuine fans get hold of the music. The fact it has a slightly different cover should please the “stamp collectors”. As for people on here who already own the “first edition” but are complaining about a second run, would you be making the same comments if you were unable to get your copy, as a result of ebay flippers buying them up? No, i thought not…

    1. Also there’s the additional positive of the greater the number of 5.1 blu-rays pressed and sold, the more likely record companies will issue the format for other artists

    2. I don’t even have the first edition and i’m complaining about it even though I can now get a copy of it, still keep the same opinion.

  18. Thanks ever so much for inquiring about listeners opinion on that matter, and for going into action afterwards ! Ordered my copy but I was wondering if the number of copies one can buy is limited ?

  19. People are complaining about a repress of an item costing £22.
Imagine how those who bought the first issue of the Queen coloured vinyl box costing £300+ feel. I can’t remember Universal canvassing fan opinions on the second (and possibly third) pressings! A wee bit perspective and generosity wouldn’t go amiss from some.

    1. Just wait for the wave of resentment when the Bowie Brilliant Live Adventures re-releases hit in the autumn. Plenty of people paid way over the odds for each title before the repressings were announced.

    2. “People are complaining about a repress of an item costing £22.”

      Exactly this!
I am a little surprised by some of the posts I have read on this issue. People talking about lack of morals and losing trust and credibility. It’s a £22 Blu-ray!!!!

Personally, I am more disappointed by a world where we can’t all praise the fact that, as collective fans of a group and presumably of music in general, more people will now be able to share in the enjoyment of a release.

Oh well, each to their own…

      1. “People are complaining about a repress of an item costing £22.”

No people are rightfully complaining about the original post and its definative nature, it seems a lot of people are wearing rose tinted glasses, maybe only a few of us complaining doesn’t mean it’s not right.

  20. Well I am happy for those who want this item & now have a second chance…I got the 1st pressing and I did nab #3, the Gilbert O one, but I missed out on the second one, xPropaganda…even the bundle with the deluxe CD is gone…I missed out cuz of my cruise…any possibility of a repress of that one Paul?? Is there enough of a demand for one?? Just had to ask…

    1. It was originally 1000 and was extended to 1500 five weeks later, can’t just keep extending forever and its already stated in the original news item no 2nd press.

    1. Right, it had nothing to do about “fans” just Flipping and scalping. TFF have never been a limited edition of 1000 band unless it is a withdrawn or promo release.

  21. Thank you thank you thank you! Order has been placed and I’m so happy. Thank you to the band, to the label, to those who bought it the first time who wanted more to experience this release, and especially to Paul and SDE. God bless you!!!

  22. The contrast of this repress with the continuing fiasco of the promised repress of Brilliant Live Adventures couldn’t be more stark.
Congratulations Paul on showing how it should be done.

  23. Thank you very much for listening to us and for allowing those like me who missed the first edition to be able to buy this album to enjoy the dolby atmos version or the 5.1 mix.
I just bought mine, thank’s again.

  24. I’m not a big Tears for Fears fan, but I’ve enjoyed visiting this great website for quite a while now, so I felt obligated to purchase a couple of these blu rays to support Paul. I’ll pass the blu rays on to friends of mine who are bigger TFF fans than I am. Thanks for a great website, Paul!

  25. I would have much preferred a stereo mix of the steven wilson mix on CD as there is too much compression on the CD. I was toying with the idea about buying the blu-ray but the lack of a 2 channel stereo mix and the price of the postage has put me off.

  26. Thank you so much Paul. This excellent album is NO SMALL THING to me, and I really should have ordered before. I ordered 2 without even looking at the price or shipping to the USA! I would’ve sold half my car! I am getting to see them in Tampa the day before I turn 25(Probably a huge lie in there) with a close friend, who I will surprise with the new album in Blu Ray thanks to you, and of course keep one for myself! Your website is a valuable spot for research, but mostly for great features and interviews. I was a failed English/Journalism/Underwater Fire Prevention major, but still recognize your skill for sure. And thanks for being the best source for everything TFF on the web!

  27. Seriously people, did you buy the first pressing because it was initially limited or was it for the music? If there is even a little bit of you that gets excited about owning something that is “exclusive” meaning that you own something only a limited number of people own… you probably should reevaluate your life. You happened to read an email and bought something, good for you! What’s that going to do for you in eighty years? Paul owes nothing to people that bought the “first pressing”. I think the two versions should have been identical. Music, poetry, art, knowledge… is meant to be shared with everyone. The desire to own “exclusive” art… pretty sad.

    1. I bought it for the music cuz I am a TFF fan/completist, not for the exclusivity, thank you very much…if I did, I would have left it sealed…but I’m not selling this to make a buck…

    2. I bought mine only for the music and don’t care how many are pressed. I suppose i’d be happier if more people got to hear it than fewer.

    3. Seriously GILBERT! Who the hell do you think you are? Acting all high and mighty? Like your the internet police or something? I could ask you the same question about anything you’ve bought in your life? Whats it’s it going to do for you in 80 years! So what, if someone buys something that makes them happy! Life’s too short to worry about idiots like you ,judging others! Hmmm? Maybe it’s you that needs to reevaluate your life! Gil-bert!

      1. Wow, I clearly struck a nerve here. Instead of an intelligent, well thought, well written response you attempted to insult me and call me names. It is almost as if you did not read my post or understand it. How about you try to articulate what it is about the post you disagree with.

        1. To be fair you did just insult a lot of people by stating “you probably should reevaluate your life”… maybe you should have started with an intelligent, well thought, well written response.

          1. By quoting a part of my statement you are not really being fair though are you? What I said was “If there is even a little bit of you that gets excited about owning something that is “exclusive” meaning that you own something only a limited number of people own… you probably should reevaluate your life.” Which I stand by. The feeling that you are special because you own something that is “limited” is ridiculous (honestly the feeling that you are special because you own anything is ridiculous). I am guessing that everybody that bought this blu-ray strictly because they wanted a superior listening experience would not care at all about it being reissued. The only people that would care about the repressing are people that get pleasure from owning something “exclusive”.

I would also like to make another point. When the first pressing was initially announced Paul said it was limited to 1000 units. There are two ways to look at that statement. One is that it is a warning that “hey, if you want this thing I am only making 1000 of them so you had better act fast” (which is not a statement of exclusivity or a guarantee that he will not make more, which does away with arguments of “false advertising”). The second is “this is an exclusive item that is limited to 1000 units so if you want to have something that nobody else has you had better act fast”. I am guessing most people saw the statement as a warning and acted accordingly (and probably only bought one copy for themselves). Obviously there were some people that saw it the second way, these are probably the people that bought multiple copies, some to sell. I have never met Paul and I would never claim to know how he thinks but I am guessing that if he had thought he could sell 5000 of these in the same amount of time he sold 1000 he would have “limited” it to 5000 units. And if he thought he could sell 10,000 in the same amount of time he would surely have made 10,000. And if he had made 10,000 I do not think we would even be having this discussion.

And finally for the record, nowhere did I say (nor do I think) that everybody that bought this (or buys anything) should reevaluate their life. That statement was only for the people that are upset about the reissue, which are the people that feel special because they own something that other people do not.

          2. At least you made this post very easy to find.
It’s as fair as what you intended it to be, it was a deliberate dig any way you want to try to spin it.
The other point you make is completely wrong. I have already quoted in this topic about the original point of sale and the exact wording, and that so many people choose to ignore it is beyond belief. I am going to reference “this is your one and only opportunity to own a physical copy” and “Only 2000 copies will be available” again to help you, it was even put in bold text to highlight the points. As you can see (and you can look up the original post) it can only be taken one way so i’m not sure what you mean or refer to in regard to being taken two ways.

          3. Let’s close this conversation now. It’s not really interesting for other people to read.

  28. On demand ordering is the future, a good idea to bring back on sale this fabulous album on Blu ray, maybe more to follow via SDE if record company’s will not take the risk to invest. Happy to order this item. thanks.

    1. Thanks! It’s not quite ‘on demand’ because SDE is committing to doing it and doesn’t have the option of saying ‘there wasn’t enough demand so we’re not going ahead’. The record label isn’t going to do a manufacturing run for 250 copies, so it’s not completely risk-free from SDE’s point of view. We have to guarantee a minimum order quantity. Which is why it’s gratifying to see the support and interest from so many SDE readers and surround sound fans who value physical music. Thank you!

      1. Hey Paul, how this works reminds me of what happened with that Jellyfish 4CD boxset called “Fan Club” but not as extreme…that set was put together by this guy Bruce Brodeen and his small specialty label Not Lame, and consisted of demos, B-sides, live stuff, etc of their 2 albums “Bellybutton” & “Spilt Milk”…Bruce had to license everything from EMI & they required a certain guarantee of number of sales, which he had to put a hefty sum of money down to get the set made…in order to do that, he had to take out another mortgage on his house!! In the end, it all worked out, he broke even, all the boxes sold, it’s now a serious collector’s item…yes I have one…but it was a huge risk and could have gone all wrong… thankfully it didn’t!! I’m not sure if you had to go through that, to get these TFF BluRays made or not, but it looks like it’s all going to plan…

    2. MOD (or “Music On Demand”) is something I only came across for the first time (in almost 40 years of CD buying) when I noted my local bricks & mortar music retailer (JB HI FI in Australia) wasn’t getting all the significant new releases like they used to. I jumped online only to discover the only way I could buy FKA Twigs excellent new LP on CD was via MOD. This felt like a sign of things to come. Hopefully not a signifier of a death spiral, but certainly not a development that portends well for the future of the shiny little discs that I’ve so enjoyed collecting over the decades. Who knows?

Paul – I’d be interested to hear your thoughts (as a connected music-industry insider with their finger on the pulse) on what, if anything, this development in the life-cycle of the humble CD may or may not signify.

  29. I managed to purchase the first pressing and this is actually the best surround mix in my collection. The more people who can hear this, the better!

  30. If we, as buyers of the original version, had paid a large premium to ensure we got something exclusive.. a re-issue would have annoyed me. We did not. The original was priced reasonably. There was no premium paid (to SDE). SDE can not be responsible for the resale market.

I do hope, however that this type of ‘open two week window’ will be able to be used on future limited releases, so that those who truly want them .. get a chance to buy. I am happy both that TFF and physical Blu-Ray had a bigger than expected audience.. which may make future releases more likely.

Good job Paul.. and thanks for taking care of those that missed out initially – through no fault of their own. And yep, it was one more item for me to buy for this release…

      1. Thanks.. I was quite happy to have the two SDE exclusive releases in there.. and I got one of the Green Vinyls from you as well. Glad you have been able to ship these at good rates as well.. because shipping costs have gotten.. nuts…

        1. Wow, what a crazy collection :-)
But: I own Songs from The Big Chair 7 times:
the original lp in 1985, the original cd bought two years later, the bonus tracks cd, a 5 track promo including all the single versions, the 2cd set, the box set and a picture disc from that time (from sde). Aren’t we crazy? :-)

          1. Indeed we are all crazy as (I think) I only have 3 versions of The Big Chair on vinyl, my favourite being the candian one which came with a lovely thick booklet :-)

  31. I now can make sure that my son’s can also have a copy of this release.
Probably the best way to do it with the next Limited Edition, just keep the pre-order time open for awhile longer than 24hrs.

  32. This reminds me of The Beatles 16 Original Albums [SHM-CD] releases of 2014 (original) 2015 (second release) and 2017 (third release). All releases were made from the 2009 remaster but each year release has a bit different packaging. You’ll never get a complete set but will end up mixing the years to get a complete set. Which is fine.
So I’m glad Paul did a second run. And if needed…a third release because bottom line…it’s all about collecting the music.

  33. YAY! I didn’t buy the CD or vinyl due to mixed reviews of the sound quality and then regretted not buying the Bluray as the reviews were great for that medium. Anyways….problem solved – bought : )

  34. Great news! I missed out first time around but was added to a waiting list and was very fortunate to get a copy that way. The Steven Wilson mix sounds superb and so much better than the standard release. If it wasn’t for Paul and SDE, this release wouldn’t have happened so, for anyone who missed it first time around – or is still deciding whether to get it now it’s available again – just do it, you won’t regret it.

Excellent work, Paul. Also, I finally listened to the Christmas edition of The Album Years podcast and thoroughly enjoyed your guest spot. Cheers!

  35. The timezones can work against me here in Australia. As they did with the first pressing.

So this was an awesome surprise to wake up to. Thanks Paul!

    1. Yes! The timezone conundrum for us here in Oz can often be a right royal pain in the arse when it comes to these time-compressed buying windows. I’m still receiving professional therapy over the whole Bowie Brilliant Live Adventures debacle! ;)
There was nothing like checking your emails at 7am only to find a Bowie BLA email sent at 3.30am (East Coast Australia time) advising you of the latest (very limited) release, only to then discover they were all already sold out!

On another note, as a daily SDE reader for many years, I’ve noticed a fairly regular stream of comments originating from downunder. For a few years now, Amazon UK have blocked deliveries to Australia in protest of the Australian government’s imposition regarding the collection of tax on items shipped here, which they insist all overseas retailers do on their behalf. As such, we’ve been forced -reluctantly – onto other platforms like http://www.amazon.com.au which often has a far more limited range to choose from. Paul – would it be possible to include Oz Amazon and/or JB HI FI in your price widget for the benefit of your Australian readers? Just a thought.

  36. Just want to add my voice…. I am one of the people who was lucky enough to get a copy the first time around. I am happy that others will have the opportunity to hear it (and not have to pay excessive eBay prices to do so). For me, keeping surround sound alive, especially in a physical format, is far more important than whether or not the item is collectible. The more of these that sell, the more likely the labels are to finance future surround projects. (I may buy another copy just to support the series!). Also, I think the pre-order window is definitely a good idea for future releases. That way, anyone who wants a copy is less likely to get shut out.

Thanks again Paul for making these releases happen. Can’t wait to hear the Gilbert Blu-ray!

  37. I need a copy of the CD with 3 bonus tracks.
    When is that being repressed.
I have the first press blu ray.
I also have spare ticket for the boys at Shepards Bush Empire.

  38. I bought the first edition and it is great that there will be a second run for those who missed out. It is also entirely logical that people like to buy things that go up in value, even if they don’t want to sell them. Some owners also feel upset that this first edition will now be worth less. However, firstly the blu ray was sold for an entirely reasonable price of GBP 22 and secondly, Paul is taking the risk that he cannot sell more than 2,000 copies and thirdly without Paul this item would not even exist. So, if you are a genuine lover of music owning the first edition, you cannot really be upset with a second run. On the other hand, if you are a scalper then you will be annoyed and I cannot really sympathise.

  39. Paul and everyone involved:
I don’t have the words to express how much I appreciate the opportunity to purchase this masterpiece . I love the band, the songs, and the formats. This will certainly become the centerpiece of my multi-channel listening library! I’ve been fortunate enough to listen to this already by borrowing a friends copy and and I can vouch for how amazing it sounds on a properly calibrated Dolby Atmos set up! Great news!!! Again…THANK YOU!!

  40. Paul, this is fantastic that you are giving fans a chance to still get this release. I was fortunate enough to get it in the first 24 hour window and I felt sad for those that missed out and now you have come up with a great solution to give every one a chance to still get this album in the best format. It is a wonderful album and sounds fantastic in surround and the fidelity on this bluray is top notch. I agree that giving people a 2 week window to get one of these special releases is the way to go and I hope that is how you will do all future releases.

  41. Paul forget the Doom and gloom merchants. I for one are so glad you decided to reissue this. It’s the right thing to do. I decided not to buy a 5.1 mix of an album I had not heard and by the time I changed my mind the following day they had all sold out. Went for the exclusive Super Deluxe extended version instead.
I think what you are doing is brilliant and the fact that your promoting physical product in a music business that denighs there is such a market is brilliant.
If I was wearing a hat I would take it off to you. Here’s to many more super deluxe exclusives looking forward to my signed Gilbert O Sullivan 5.1 . Have you any idea Paul when the O Sullivan discs will be sent out. Keep up the good work.
    Thanks Paul

    1. Thanks! Gilbert isn’t released for quite a while, unfortunately – 22nd July – so we’ll start shipping during that week. P

  42. Thank you for making this possible Paul. I had no excuse for missing out on the first run — I received the email, put it in my cart, and hesitated too long. I had no expectations of a second run, but am grateful for it.

  43. HI Paul, just from a collectors point of view I have the first pressing will this new second edition make the first pressing less desirable now? (not that I intend to sell) even though the second pressing states it on disc. I’m glad for those who will be able to grab it now.

    1. First pressings tend to be the ones collectors go after, so I guess the first pressing is more desirable. Whether this second pressing makes the first ‘less’ desirable, I couldn’t really say, but we’d done it so people can tell the difference.

      1. I was one of those fortunate enough to purchase the blu-ray first time round. I never had any problems with more copies being pressed and suggested small print to tell the first and second editions apart.

For those complaining about Paul’s integrity regarding the product being a limited edition you still have a limited edition, you have the first edition.

Those of you interested in the music, here’s your chance of purchasing a great product without having to pay extortionate prices on secondary sites. I bet it’s the eBay sellers that are the ones complaining.
For the time being, I can’t see the first pressing being more desirable as at the moment fans just want a copy at a decent price. It will only be over time when values will rise when they become more difficult to find. As the saying goes, they are only as valuable as someone is willing to pay.

Thanks once again Paul and all the people involved in keeping Blu-ray and surround sound music alive. The more copies sold, the more opportunity in having these new releases coming. There’s rumours of more 5.1 mixes out there that have never seen the light of day yet like more of Elton John’s 70’s album or even Michael Jackson’s Thriller.

You’d think with the 40th anniversary of Thriller, the 5.1 surround mix will finally see the light of day.

  44. Tbe problem with Blu Ray Audio, there just aren’t enough titles for what I want. I.e. re-building my library. I’m still buying cds!

  45. Forgot to say Thanks, Paul, for keeping the price so reasonable. It would be very interesting to know the final number sold, if you feel like sharing.

  46. As a collector that exclusive is always appreciated and considered a premium. However, this time I support the decision based on two thoughts. One, I didn’t see the first offer in time. :( Two, and more importantly, one of the stated objectives in producing these offerings is to promote and keep alive HF Blu-ray audio. That alone makes it an imperative. I still recall listening to Breakfast in America on an early HFBR offering. It was at a friend’s house, on his obnoxiously good McIntosh system. About ten seconds in we just both looked at each other wide eyed. The most open sound either of us heard to that point. KEEP IT UP!!!!

  47. Had to skip this first time around cause I was flat broke.
I’m still skint but atmos/surround is such a great format and can’t pass it up this time.
You’ve got a hot title on your hands!
    Thanks Paul.

  48. I just would love limited editions to be exactly that. One printing, once sold out that’s it, no more future printings
If you miss out, you miss out.

If a standard version happens get rid of one of the audio formats that the limited had

    This way everyone wins.
Just putting second printing seems like a cop-out

  49. I am sooo happy with this announcement – Order placed! Paul you really have made my day, I adore this album and was so disappointed to have missed the first Bluray release.

I have the Limited Edition SDE CD however its the surround sound mix from the masterful Steve Wilson that I really wanted – I’m like a kid a Christmas :-)

    Thank once again Paul !

  50. Glad to see a repress – I ordered even though I have the original – and bravo for instituting a pre-order window. Much appreciated. Still wish the bonus tracks and a non-fold-down stereo mix could have been added. Bit of a missed opportunity. Best to you, Paul, and looking forward to future releases.

  51. Can some fellow readers from the EU please share their experience if there was any additional cost for their orders from the SDE-shop after Brexit and if so how much (percentage)?

    1. In Belgium, I paid 25 euro extra to BPost. That’s 15 euro handling fee and 10 euro TVA. That makes double the original Price. Ridicuous, of course.

      1. Belgian post/customs are borderline criminal in my view. The other day they had the audacity to tax a pair of socks coming from the uk! Apparently you can claim it back under a certain amount …

        1. No, I don’t think you can. Since last year anything that’s imported into the EU is tax due, until last year anything under €22 was able to get in tax-free, not anymore

          1. Ah! It’s ‘good’ to know that my information is out of date! Thank you Mr Groot! Another nail in the coffin of the global market …

    2. I would also add anyone in the EU will be supporting Paul 20% more than those who live in the UK – Paul’s prices include UK VAT if you live in the UK which is not removed from the price if you live in the EU, even though Paul does not need to charge UK VAT for such export sales. So, if you live in the UK you pay GBP 22 (including around GBP 3.67 of VAT which Paul pays to HMRC) and if you live in the EU then you also pay GBP 22 (all of which is retained by Paul) plus the VAT in your home country eg 19% in Germany plus the ridiculous handling fee.

        1. We don’t blame you at all, Paul. You can’t help it, of course. As a Huge TFF- and Steven Wilsonfan, I am very happy with this excellent BluRay. I really can recommend it to everyone. And as a longtime SDE-fan, I’m happy to support your website this way. Cheers !

    3. @Klaus

I’m in Ireland. I ordered the limited edition TFF CD which was £15.00 plus £5.00 postage.
      Total £20.00 or €24.05

In addition, I paid the following on delivery:
      Irish VAT (23%) – €5.53
      Handing fee – €3.50
      Total – €9.03

  52. Sounds like a good solution to what was once a slightly puzzling dilemma. Great to hear this is available again to those that didn’t get it the first time around.

  53. YES!!!! Success!!!! I dunno how i grabbed the cd but missed this first time around. Now here’s hoping a surround sound “Everybody Loves a Happy Ending” ends up in the SDE Blu-Ray Audio queue at some point…….

  54. Oh, I had to order two more…
My wife and I are happy with it but there are othter people around us, who wanted it, too.
Overall it has a much much much better sound than the standard version, there are only very small nyances, where I like some punch of the drums more from the CD version, but overall a great winner!
I made a downmix which is the go-to-version in my car now.

  55. I got the first edition. A splendid product – by far the best way to hear this excellent album.

I’m really glad that more people now have a chance to grab one. It’s really worth it.

    Good call, Paul!

  56. Very happy to see this being re-issued. I ordered the reissue without guilt, since its time based, thus my ordering this copy, will not impact the ability of someone who did not originally get the first edition, to get one.

Lets face it… virtually no one who ordered this.. did so because it was limited edition. It wasn’t priced high, because of it being a limited edition. It was limited, simply because that was the supply originally produced/negotiated for an undetermined market. It was priced very fairly. So is the reissue.

Right decision.. glad to see those who missed out.. get a second chance (and stick it to the ebay gougers, though I am guessing, not many are being sold at those elevated prices after the first couple of weeks.).

  57. I have to strongly disagree with this decision even though I missed getting the 1st edition.
It was sold as 2000 units limited and advertised as “this is your one and only opportunity to own a physical copy”
and “Only 2000 copies will be available”.
I appreciate all the disappointed people will now be able to get a copy which is great but you can’t hide the fact the first edition
has been sold under false advertisement (with no bad intentions from Paul).

Also what do you say to people who bought the item for £80 or £90 because no more were being produced?

Having said that i feel what you have decided to do for future releases is a very good idea with having a 2 week ordering window,
this will allow anyone who wants it to order without any excuses and it also allows you to set the number so you don’t under or over order stock. If you could please confirm total numbers for future releases after the ordering window closes that would be great.

  58. My post over on Quadraphonic Quad today:

Although my “First Run” may feel a little less “special” today, I think this was the right thing to do – in fact I voted in favor of it on SDE.
The band made a great record & Steven Wilson created a mix which really maximizes its impact – as a music fan first and foremost (and a greedy, hoarding little collector second-most!), I think it’s only fair to let more people hear it.
More importantly, I think Paul from SDE is sorting the business model out (with the 2 week pre-order window) giving more opportunity for fans and reducing risk for him & the label.
    A win-win moving forward…
Long may the SDE Series run!

      1. Thank you!
I hope you sell scads of the second run to help show labels & artists that there is a demand for high-res, multichannel physical media.
        Keep ‘em coming!

  59. As someone who purchased “The Tipping Point” on Blu-ray & CD [Paul’s exclusive edition with the 3 bonus tracks] direct from SDE – I’m kind of relieved by the news this morning. Nothing more has been added to this release and I don’t feel compelled to buy another.

As far as resellers on eBay, Discogs, etc. – that ship has passed in a way as many fans that missed the chance to buy one of the first 2,000 already paid a premium to get this (you just need to visit the completed auctions to visit that history). I nearly did the same with TFF Record Store Day “Live At Massey Hall, Canada” CD but ultimately found a shop in the UK selling it online for the retail price and only needed to pay up for US shipping costs.

It will be interesting to see if this second run has the flippers buzzing and scrambling again to launch new auctions. At least the newer fans of SDE along with some loyal fans will have a chance to buy it now direct from the SDE Store.

  60. I’m one of the lucky guys who got the first edition and I was worried that something as remarkable as a TFF SW multichannel release had such a low projection.
I buy music because I like to listen to it and to support the artists and the people who makes it posssible. I don’t like people who’s speculating with that and this BluRay is not going to sound worst because a second edition sees the light.
Paul, you have done the right thing!

  61. I got the first edition of this but I’m very happy a second is in the way of all those that missed out. I see this as a very fair and sensible decision and wish others would follow. The prices and profiteering on the second hand market is outrageous.
I think Paul has hit on the best model moving forward – it’s a win win.

  62. Thanks so much, Paul. I missed the first release for a multitude of reasons and am unhappy with the quality of the standard CD. This means I can now own this great album in a format that works for me! I’m thrilled to be able to get a copy of this and appreciate your flexibility in this matter. I have never been disappointed in an SDE release and look forward to receiving this. Thanks again, Paul!
    Regards, Chris

  63. I think that deciding to re-print was the correct call. I was one of the lucky recipients of the first edition and I’m really pleased that those who missed out will now be able to purchase and listen to Steven Wilson’s brilliant surround mixes. I also look forward to some of the extortionate e-bay prices for this taking a nose dive.

  64. Full disclosure: I bought four copies of the first edition. You won’t see any copies I purchased on any resale website and I don’t run a record shop. It’s because I live in Australia and I buy on behalf of some mates and save on shipping. And no, I haven’t charged them GBP 120 each!

The problem with limited editions – in general – is that many sites are now stipulating you may only purchase one or two copies of an item. This causes problems for those of us who live further away and have clubbed together who are trying to take advantage of economies of scale in shipping. I’d much prefer items were limited to demand over a period of time (like you have done here) than be restricted in absolute number. This will deter scalpers and I can buy in bulk for my mates and save on shipping too. Everyone gets a fair go that way.

    1. There are all sorts of benefits to this time window style of limited run. 1) more people get the chance to buy it 2) there is less risk of unsold inventory 3) its still limited.. but its limited by demand/time frame.

Glad there are few naysayers out there at this time.

  65. Well done Paul!
For those who are upset because they thought they had something rare: it still is rare. The rarity of your item will not change when they print another 1000. This will always be a coveted item in high demand.
For those who hope this kills EBay sellers: it won’t. The item is still extremely limited.
For those who are now able to buy the TFF blu ray: congratulations. It’s an outstanding album and it sounds fantastic in surround sound. You will not regret it.
For Paul: you found a great way to sell these blu rays and not disappoint readers nor run the risk to get stuck with unsellable stock. You take orders for two weeks and then produce the amount sold. It’s a win for all.

  66. Good news, I will definitely be putting in my order, but I am surprised that 60 percent of people here would rather not have more content included for the second run, I mean if you don’t want more content or do not wish to buy it again, then how would it hurt anyone if it is included this time around…. maybe an appendix disc can be made in the future and contain those nice bonus tracks…. For all of the TFF die hards here. Either way, no gripes here, I think we are lucky that at this time TFF are still making new great music to enjoy. Thanks Paul for brokering this.

      1. I’d rather try to get my hands on all different McCartney III colored vinyls…. just kidding, I am good. You never know what the future holds…

  67. I don’t have the equipment to play this, so not for me, I went for the regular deluxe CD (cover made with card that ripped as I tried to get the booklet out, ha ha ha, sigh).
But, I think it’s great news that there has been enough interest to warrant a re-pressing. Let’s celebrate that there is enough demand for physical product out there, thanks in no small amounts to sites like this one, as well as the artists themselves. Go Paul!!!
Looking forward to lots more CD or vinyl (but not mixed!!!!) product coming out in the future…..

  68. I don’t have the equipment for this, or else I would have bought it immediately. Just wanted to say that I rarely buy new music, and then if I do, I don’t play it more than a dozen times or so before ultimately returning to the artist’s older, classic work.

But The Tipping Point is one great exception. I have been playing it more than any other release from the past 10-20 years. It can’t beat SFTBC or Seeds of Love, but those albums have a “memory lane” element that The Tipping Point doesn’t have yet. But what a masterpiece this is.

    1. There’s only one album of new work by any of my legacy artists that I play as regularly as older classics.

Do I play Return to Ommadawn over Ommadawn – No.
Do I play Return to Us over Paradise Circus – No
Do I play Before the Dawn over The Kick Inside – No

The only newer album I play consistently, even more so or at least as much as the classic stuff, is “Voyage”.

Good move Paul, by far the better option.

      1. Funny, I have yet to play Voyage, still feels wrong to have a new Abba record. I unearthed Visitors and play this quite often these days… that demo at the end of the deluxe CD always gets me….

        1. Tom, you won’t regret it when you finally give in. I was likening the feeling of waiting for the new album to the childhood memories of “Hiding behind the couch watching Dr. Who through your fingers” I was worried that it would be a bit pants or just embarrassing. But no, it is a remarkable achievement. It genuinely is the next ABBA record. No modernity, not featuring…. no collaborations. It’s just ABBA and worth every pound, penny, cent and second you might spend on it.

As others have mentioned too, the key is the girls’ voices. Just immense. And in “Don’t shut me down” they have at the very least a worthy addition to the “Abba Gold” canon.

  69. No Paul, thats not fair. I haven´t sold my copy for 120 pound yet.

    Just joking!

Great to hear, that it is available again, and everyone , who wants it, can hear this great album and Stevens great mixes. Love it!

  70. great news! i don’t understand people who buys an album just because it is a limited edition and not because really likes the item.

  71. Good to hear this is being made available again, but forgive my curiosity – what happens if the pre-orders come in at something like, say, 1001 sales? Canyou specify precisely 1001 pressings, or do you have to step up to, say, 1100 copies ?

Or does the one thousand and first order miss out ? Like I said, curious as to how this sort of pre-sale works :)

  72. Well done. Much needed. Anyone who is upset about more people being given access to this fine disc should have a word with themselves.

  73. I am disappointed to hear this. I bought the original on the understanding it was a limited edition of 2000. This will make me wary in future of whether what is stated can be trusted. If it had said limited edition of 2000 but we may produce some more in the future, fair enough, but it was advertised as this is your one and only chance and beefed up to this effect. Disappointed in the decision.

    1. I sorta understand what you’re saying, but I also don’t. I mean, what difference does it actually make to you? Is it more important to (be able to say that you) have something that only 1999 other people have, than that you have something that you can really enjoy (regardless of whether or not others can enjoy it as well)?

Honest question! I’m really just trying to understand what’s the part that upsets you. I personally never understood why the level of rarity of an item changes the experience you have with it.

      1. It is just nicer to know you have something that is rare. I don’t know why. The point I disagree with is that it was advertised as a once only opportunity. There is a matter of trust and principle involved here. It seems money is more important in this instance than principle or trust. Nothing new though, it is the case the world over with everything these days.

    2. So its more important to you to own something limited than for as many as want and can afford it to have and share the experience? This combats those buying multiple copies to flog on ebay for crazy money. At least this way it goes to Paul’s business to help keep it going and bring us more like this. He has also stated that the 2nd edition will state this so you still have the 1st edition. I was lucky to get one but am pleased more fans can now too.

      1. I never said that it was more important to own something limited, but this release was sold as a strict limited edition and sticking ‘second edition’ on this one won’t change it, it is the same blu-ray. I don’t care how many want or buy it if it is readily available. My issue lies in the fact it was a limited edition and now it won’t be that limited. Everyone cannot have everything they want. There are other limited editions in the past that will probably never be released again.

      2. cheetah / soundman – In the words of Sir Bob Geldof – Utter bollocks.

Future trust in SDE Limited editions? – If Paul was doing this for the money I would have a quiet word with him as there are many more ways to make a quick buck than selling unique Blu-Ray discs for £22 that have been properly licensed and produced with the artists approval.

“It seems money is more important in this instance than principle or trust.”

I would suggest future resale value is what some people are more worried about.

If it were money, I would have added a couple of extra tracks, I wouldn’t have bothered with the “Second Pressing” script, I would have increased the price, I would have sold just 1,500 and kept 500 back for myself….

Paul did the best thing he could and he also went about it in as open a way as possible. I would imagine this has been a massive ball-ache.

        1. People with principles nowadays are few and far between it would seem. I am not worried about future resale value because at the moment I have no intention of selling it. You didn’t read properly what I put and just saw what you wanted to see. No point in arguing, it is being re-released regardless.

          1. In cases of expensive super deluxe, numbered editions I would be inclined to agree as these items usually factor their limited nature into the price. However, in this case there was never a premium on the fact it was limited and I think a little slack needs to be given to SDE who will have been on a learning journey with what was at the time a unique proposition. Thanks to the success of this first venture there are now two more albums available on blu-ray that would never have been issued on that format if not for Paul’s dedication and enthusiasm. So let’s celebrate the overwhelming demand on this occasion and look forward to more exclusives from SDE.

    3. I’m a fan of T4F and Surround Music. I was very sad as I missed the first release. So for me it is great to get a second chance! It is still limited with the second release. So don’t be sad. Be lucky that you own one!

    4. Even if the total number went up to 10,000 units, it still is limited considering the number of TFF fans around the world.

I have an extremely rare Stranglers song on a promo CD (Time to die – alternate version). It cost me a fortune and i’ve been hoping it would get wider release as I feel bad that I have it and 99.9% of Stranglers fans haven’t heard the song at all as only 50 were pressed. It doesn’t make me feel good that I have something “collectable”. I want others to be able to hear the same music that I like.

    1. Excellent news. I was lucky enough to get the Tipping Point bluray and it IS amazing sounding. This is by far the best way to make it available to those who missed out. Hopefully it kills off the Ebay greedies.

  74. Well done Paul. I purchased the original but it’s great news for any SDE subscribers who missed out first time round and a fart in the general direction of those who sought to rip others off.

  75. Thank you Paul !
Is there a chance to see the CD with all the bonus tracks re released again ? (I can’t realised I’ve been so dumb to miss it)

  76. Well done Paul on releasing this for those who missed out first time around, hopefully no one paid over the odds on the other resale sites. But I’m guessing a lot did!.

  77. This is indeed a great outcome for all concerned, Paul. The way you conducted yourself in a fairly tricky situation is something a fair few record companies could learn from IMHO. Integrity & class all the way. Congrats on getting the support you needed from TFF & all parties with a stake in this to get the second pressing happening.
