Suede / Stay Together 7″ picture disc

Suede’s fifth single reissued for 30th anniversary

Suede’s 1994 non-album single Stay Together will be released as a limited edition seven-inch picture disc early next year, as part of Demon’s ongoing ‘Suede30’ celebrations.

The song was the last single released by the band while Bernard Butler was still a member and its peak of number three in the UK singles chart felt like some kind of culmination or validation at the time, in what seemed like the inexorable rise of the band after that run of four singles from their debut album.

Commercially, although not critically, things would take a turn for the worse, although that was all in the future at this point and ‘Stay Together’ remains a fantastic piece of work, with a typically strong flipside in ‘The Living Dead’.

This seven-inch picture disc features the edit of Stay Together (the 12-inch and CD singles at the time boasted the long 8.29 version) and ‘The Living Dead’. It’s the fifth in the series of picture discs and it seems that Demon do plan to issue all three singles from the magnificent Dog Man Star in this format next year.

This Stay Together seven-inch picture disc is released on 16 February 2024 via Demon Records. Like the previous four picture discs, you can pre-order from the SDE shop via this link or by using the button below.

  1. For personal reasons this is a favourite of mine by them, a break up song for me and also for Bernard/Brett. The story that Bernard had just lost his father, his appearance in the video and the sheer iciness of the song makes quite a heady mix. I’ve been picking up a few of the Suede reissues/RSD/live output of late but 7″ pic discs don’t do it for me anymore. I did see a nice copy of the 12″ in Oxfam for £20 but could not carry around vinyl that day!!

  2. Great products, but alas retailing at very high prices.I feel a bit sorry for dedicated mint vinyl collectors,as it has become a very expensive hobby to pursue.Alas I have had to give up on purchasing anymore vinyl as I simply cannot afford the very high prices.Like I say,no complaints about how nice this stuff is,just sadly no longer in my affordable price range.

  3. i bought the CD single when it was released and there was another strong b-side My Dark Star on there. I seem to recall the band were a bit dismissive of the song/Single Stay Together at the time and it sort of got lost in the past for a while – so in that sense this is a welcome release. Although as a picture disc i would say its probably just a decoration. I would’ve happily paid £16-£20 for a 12inch black vinyl version with the 4 tracks on.

well maybe not “happily” but it would’ve definitely been more of a temptation.

    1. All of their albums. Including Sci-Fi Lullabies and A New Morning.
I have confidence that they will continue to reissue them regularly so long as they sell.

    2. I’d also like them to reissue Be My God/Art.
I know it wasn’t very good, but a legit copy is anything from £150 upwards, which is offputting for two not great songs. It doesn’t have to be as a single. Just tacked on as bonus tracks to something would be fine.
