The Cardigans are prepping a B-sides compilation
2LP and CD release
Swedish rock band The Cardigans have a new compilation of B-sides/rarities in the pipeline for release later this year.
Formed in 1992, the group – gutarist Peter Svensson, bassist Magnus Sveningsson, drummer Bengt Lagerberg, keyboardist Lars-Olof Johansson and lead singer Nina Persson – released six albums between 1994 and 2005, enjoying significant international success in the mid-to-late nineties with their First Band on the Moon and Gran Turismo albums and singles ‘Lovefool’, ‘Erase/Rewind’ and ‘My Favourite Game’. Their 2003 longplayer, Long Gone Before Daylight, is a forgotten masterpiece.
Confirmed by the band on their Facebook page, two 2LP sets – with the working title The Rest of the Best – will offer B-sides and rarities and the group are already checking test pressings. The good news for compact disc fans is these compilations will also be available on CD. Yay!
Aside from collecting the original singles, thus far, the only way to obtain any Cardigans rarities on CD was to either seek out the Japanese/Australian compilation called The Other Side of The Moon (1997) or to purchase the deluxe edition of The Cardigans Best Of from 2008, which featured a bonus CD of B-sides and the like.
More news on this new compilation, when we get it! Discogs have the test pressings listed, so, assuming these are accurate, you can check out the track listings below.

I know there is a lot of great material these releases may be missing….respect for danceability…like the 3 cd edition of Erasure’s Chorus….would maybe be Gran Turismo.
For the complete multi-disc cd version they ought to add another bonus disc including c.20 best of/ singles. Then more than just their hardcore fans might be willing to buy it.
It would be nice if there where some remixes – there are a lot of good ones!
A longtime favorite… these were promised way back when their albums came out on vinyl so it’s good to see that it’s finally happening. A shame that we aren’t getting any more rarities from the vaults though, as i suspect this will be the last material we see released from them :/ each volume has 1 unreleased demo (great divide, communication). Hey! Get out of my way also had a unique single mix (will stay rather limited)
Its actually two b-side sets they are releasing, both 2LP – The Rest of The Best Vol 1 & 2. Test pressings already produced and listed on Discogs

Thank you. I have updated the post to reflect this.
This is great news for us fans of the band. And I fully co-sign your comment about Long Gone Before Daylight being a masterpiece. It’s just stunning.
Seconded (or is it thirded?)
Fourthed. Just an incredible album.
I’m sure that best of had the vast majority of b sides.
For anyone interested in what Nina is up to these days, her album with James Yorkston from 2022, “The Great White Sea Eagle” is a superb listen.
This sounds really promising. The Cardigans were one of those acts that were judged on a few (albeit great) hit singles and fell out of the wider public consciousness in the UK, which is a real shame as they continued to produce some superb music whilst growing and evolving as a band until they broke up in the noughties. Good to see this is coming out on CD too. Maybe they just might decide to issue their vinyl remasters from a few years ago on CD too in the near future.
Agree. A-ha is a good comparison, I think. Both in terms of their sound and the fact that they continued to make great music long after they were abandoned by the mainstream.
