The The / Hyena 2LP coloured vinyl

hyena1

Matt Johnson‘s Hyena soundtrack was issued on CD back in March under his own Cineola label (and the ‘The The’ moniker), but later this month a special double vinyl edition is due from Death Waltz Records.

The film Hyena was directed by Johnson’s brother Gerard and it is the third The The soundtrack after 2010’s Tony and Moonbug from 2012 – although unlike those titles this has the significant bonus of Johnson’s first vocal in 13 years on Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven (But Nobody Wants To Die).

This is a double LP set pressed on red and blue 140g vinyl, the second of which features an etching of the The The logo on side 4. It is housed inside a ‘leather look’ gatefold sleeve that comes with a full colour booklet featuring sleeve notes from Johnson, a lobby card and two custom colour records.

Hyena is out on 2LP vinyl on 31 July 2015.

  1. As well as Matt working on that new ‘proper’ The The LP (rejoice!) he apparently has some other unreleased soundtracks, plus documentaries and spoken word recordings that he plans to release “as one volume”. Possible box set?

Then again, we long-term fans have learned to manage our expectations, right? Here we are in 2015 still waiting for his other unreleased LPs from years ago to see the light of day. ‘Pornography of Despair’ and ‘Gun Sluts’ to name but two. Recent interviews have seen Mr J in fine fettle and positive about re-engaging with music I think, so who knows… maybe he will relent after all this time. It’s a different landscape out there nowadays to when ‘NakedSelf’ was released and pretty much ignored by Universal because it didn’t have any ”hits”.

  2. Anybody know if The The’s classic album “Dusk” will ever be reissued on vinyl? All the other The The albums are fairly easy to find on vinyl in the United States, but it has been impossible to find “Dusk,” which is a travesty….

  3. Always loved MJ/The The and always blind buy anything by him. I bought the CD of Hyena but will also add this to my collection.

Looking forward to the new album.

  4. Love his soundtrack work but the film is a brutal watch of sadistic violence… then again Tony was hardly a rom-com not seen moonbug but I love his work in general

        1. Spot on. Have to add Kraftwerk has one also coming up. Ralf Hutter that is with his own words, “soon” over three years back now. Typical irony by him there of course too. Just around the corner…
