When Slade Rocked the World 1971-75 / super deluxe box set
Salvo Music are to collaborate with direct-to-fan music platform PledgeMusic once again on When Slade Rocked The World 1971-1975, a new luxury Slade box set that will celebrate the English rock band’s phenomenally successful run of singles and albums in the first half of the 1970s.
Salvo first worked with PledgeMusic in 2014 on the highly successful Frankie Goes To Hollywood Inside The Pleasuredome set, which sold out and is already commanding high prices on the used market. Like that box, When Slade Rocked The World will be a multi-format collection, taking in vinyl albums, CDs, seven-inch singles, books and other items of memorabilia.
The box will contain the following:
- • Four vinyl LPs (Slade Alive!, Slayed?, Old New Borrowed and Blue and Slade In Flame) reproduced in original sleeves, remastered and pressed on 180g coloured vinyl
- • Four double sided picture sleeve singles covering the key hits of the period not on the albums –
- Coz I Love You / Look Wot You Dun
- Take Me Bak ‘Ome / Cum On Feel The Noize
- Skweeze Me Pleeze Me / Merry Xmas Everybody
- The Bangin’ Man / Thanks For The Memory
- • Flexidisc Slade Talk to ‘19’ Readers
- • Two-CD collection of the audio on the four vinyl LPs
- • • Ten-inch annual style hardback book featuring reviews, features and memorabilia from each of the key years along with an introduction by Mark Ellen
- • • Reproduction of George Tremlett’s 1975 book The Slade Story, which includes period interviews with all four members and a chronology of tour and release dates up to the time of its publication
Exclusive to PledgeMusic are 1000 of these boxes that come with a set of eight Slade In Flame film lobby cards. This set is also available to pre-order without the lobby cards via other retailers, notably Amazon.
Pledge are selling the ‘limited edition’ box with the lobby cards for £90 and a ‘standard’ box (no lobby cards) for £85. The total production run hasn’t been announced yet, but Salvo ended up producing 1500 of the Frankie boxes in total and a few hundred of those ended up being sold via ‘other channels’.
In terms of presentation, this Slade box is a twelve-inch affair with foam fitment, so very similar to the Frankie box (which was brilliantly presented).
You can read more about this set and ‘pledge’ on it over at PledgeMusic. Please note that “due to licensing restrictions this campaign is NOT available to Pledgers in the US, Canada or Japan”.
When Slade Rocked The World 1971-1975 will be released on 13 November 2015.

HAD to order this earlier in the month when I saw this review…..just had it delivered from Amazon UK in pretty much record time, since I only ordered it last Thursday…..as a graphic designer I am ALWAYS a sucker for cool stuff like this!!!!!!
I love Slade during this period of their career and their earlier (pre-fame) era. But I already own all of this stuff – music wise from the excellent reissues this company has done. How about some unreleased audio from this era? There’s only 2 live documents from this time – the pre-hits Alive LP which is great and the BBC archive release from about 6 or 7 years back which was excellent all the way through. Some more live stuff and studio outtakes would make this set a must have but really all I’d be paying for at this point is the (excellent) packaging. I just can’t shell out that kinda cash for single reproductions and the like w/out it being something I can actually listen to! It’s too bad too as Slade from 1969 – 1974 have so much to offer and not many people here (in the USA) even know about them.
Long Live SLADE!
First 2 LP’s I ever bought were Alive, and Slayed. This set looks luvly,so it’s a must have for me!
Are the vinyl’s remastered from original master tapes or digital copies? Anybody know?
Are you planing to release these classic albums on black vinyls?
– Play It Loud
– Slade Alive
– Sladest
– Slayed?
– Old New Borrowed…
– In Flame
– Nobody’s Fools
– Whatever Happened…
And a singles collection – separately, or (it would be better) on 2-3-4 longplayers (LP’s)…
One of my all time favorite bands. The 2005 remasters were absolutely amazing…with both sound and all the bonus tracks. I really wish they could get together for one or two more songs, if not an entire album. Too bad more here in the states never caught on to them. They don’t know the great music they’re missing.
I saw them twice in the 70’s @ the old Academy of Music in NYC….Noddy had mirrors on his hat!
Indeed… reflected the lights beautifully!
I love this box and ordered one although there are not many musical surprises.
Therein lies the problem Darren. £90 for a box set of stuff we’ve already got dozens of times over. Where’s the unreleased stuff (like the 12″ MXE mix as you say) or the many good quality live recordings that are in existence but not commercially available (San Francisco 1975 etc). Stop ripping us of with re-issues and let’s have something a bit different. A new CD from a reformed Slade would be best of all of course!
I agree that it is great to see Slade finally getting a great box set. Unfortunately not for me, even as a huge fan. I don’t have or want a turntable and I find these LP sized boxes just too big too display.
I think it was the right decision to focus only on the years 71-75.
I keep hoping the “Merry Xmas Everybody (Extended Remix Version)” from the 1985 12″ single will appear on CD. 30 years on and it still hasn’t happened.
Didn’t know there was an extended version! Interesting…
The 12″ catalogue number is POSPX 780 if you want to check it out on Discogs. It was extended and remixed by Jimmy Lea with Pete Hammond. Considering how much attention Pete Hammond gets with the PWL connection, I am amazed they haven’t pulled this out of the archives. I’m sure a lot of people would want it on CD if it was brought to their attention. So far the remix has only appeared on that 12″ single.
Thanks Darren.
Many thanks for that Paul just ordered. Great to Slade getting the Box Set treatment they so rightly deserve. £90 is an Excellent Price.
Slade ! at last this looks fantastic, just ordered my copy, Wish ‘Play it Loud’ were included. But not complaining just can’t wait. like some of the other posts are saying, Bowie, Faces, and just shelled out for the last three Zeppelin box sets will need a second form of income.
I love it, great item ! Just ordered it,thanks Paul for information.
Further to Richie’s comment, having just “pledged” myself, I haven’t just ordered 11 copies – I think the number cited is how many times you have pledged for any product on the Pledge Music website. If I do get 11 copies for the price paid, I assure you Paul, I’d be happy to sell them at a discount here on SDE :-)
Haha, yes I think your interpretation is correct!
Doh! Well it`s the first time in my life I`ve ever been wrong! ; ))
Great to see SLADE finally getting the vinyl BOX -SET treatment ………….
And despite owning ALL of this stuff on vinyl already , I’ve ordered this box ….
And over on the PLEDGE-MUSIC website , the SALVO LABEL MANAGER has confirmed that he will attempt to get the manufacturers to have the FLAME Soundtrack in ORANGE colored vinyl , rather than the boring black vinyl in the advert ….
The ‘Flame’ vinyl will be yellow chaps…it wasn’t possible to get a solid orange colour through our manufacturer.
The ‘Slayed?’ vinyl will be brown to match the rear of the sleeve.
The ‘ONBAB’ vinyl will be a paler blue to match the colour of the album title font.
‘Alive!’ will of course be red.
Thanks Ian.
and if you`re pondering, decide soon. There are people buying up to 30 of these boxes. I wonder where they will end up?
At £90 the Slade box is a bargain.
Isn`t it?
I just want it on CD. Have zero interest in vinyl.
THAT`S IT Paul, This plus Queen plus The Faces vinyl box & CD box that`t close on 430 English Quids!!!
Even for me that`s enough, glad the wife dosen`t look at SDE.
Glad I`m happy with the Bowie LPs/CDs I already have.
Now where am I going to put the (space is an issue) vinyl?
Wow! It’s about time Slade got their due! I’m in the US and its very disappointing. I’ll never understand the whole “License Thing” Just sell it everywhere for gods sake….
James K you really don’t understand licensing, if Salvo or anyone else sell it outside the territories then the people who do have the rights will most likely take them to court, it’s illegal….
Well, its now being sold in the USA. I guess I do understand licensing!
Hold on, it’s cool. Will be 2 months after the pledge period finishes, like the FGTH, so sometime end of November into December…
Looks great Paul, thanks for this. I didn’t see a provisional shipping date, did you? Somehow gotta manage finances with Bowie coming in September…
thanks
Good point about the shipping date, but yes I’d guess November time.
another deal where US, Canada and Japan pledges are shut out….plus the price is showing as 121GBP for the Deluxe box
You’ll have to hope it becomes available on Amazon etc. I think it probably will.
IT IS A HUGE SHAME TO PLEDGES TO EXCLUDE CANADA!!! :( SHAME ON THEM!
Andre – we do not have the rights for North America and Japan…we have not deliberately shut those territories and fans out sir.
Best,
Ian
