While I have to applaud the abundance and wealth of material being offered, I have never been much for the multi-format set. I would prefer if it were strictly cds, frankly. Then, it would be much more reasonable and worthwhile, price-wise. I could easily see something like that running $90 or under. I would put it in the Dylan “Cutting Edge” 6-disc price range, but that has a much better book.
That said, if I’m gong to splurge on any of these, I’m going to wait for the “Master..” set.
Use the vinyls like a rapper! SCRATCH them! “…And…And…And…And Justice For All! Yo! Yo! Yo! Yo! Yo!”
Best heavy rock box set packages I’ve seen since the excellent Whitesnake Box Of Snakes set. Whilst watching these vids it reminded me that I used to have both of these albums in the original release on the Music For Nations label. That was a long time ago. Wish I still had ’em!
These boxsets are getting generic. The packaging/approach is almost the same as the Led Zeppelin boxes, formulaic und uninspired. Not meant to be read negative, but just noticing.
I’ve been shopping around and the boxes are available on other sites apart from Amazon at £100 or there abouts. There are single CD versions as well which are priced around £6.99.
At £173 (will drop a bit), this is why streaming is great for the overpriced deluxe sets.
I will hang on and see if there is an SDE deal alert at some point as they are too rich for my blood.
These look great but I shelled out $40 a piece for all the 45RPM vinyl sets of their first four albums a few years ago and they sound stunning aside from bass-less AJFA. I’m getting the single disc versions and streaming the bonus content. I will re-buy AJFA on vinyl if they have corrected the bass mix though. All that being said these are really nice sets, pretty impressed with all the content.
Its nice to see Metallica given their fans their money’s worth, unlike say Oasis.
Im looking forward to these box sets !
Why do they, Led Zeppelin, and QUEEN have such thin books for these box sets?! That’s crazy. I also do not believe any of these acts when it comes to not having hours of unreleased studio material both “in process” recordings and “unreleased songs” from these projects…I ALSO think that songs should be re-recorded in new versions of the songs…
There’s no doubting these sets do offer a lot of really good content split across different physical formats in the box, very well thought out if you ask me and hopefully we’ll see more of the catalogue receiving similar treatment in the near future.
I think the prices have to come down a bit in Europe/UK though before a purchase is considered, I mean the Americans can get this for around £95 which is way better value than we are been offered in other parts of the world (around double) and considering there are reports of around 30,000 each of these sets I think it’s one of these items that will see some sort of discount sooner rather than later, and I for one will be at the front of the queue when that happens.
Nope, there’s no other way to get the extra content physically than to buy the boxes.
They will also all be available to buy digitally from the usual places and they’ll also be up on spotify (to tie in nicely with a recent topic discussed on SDE).
I really didn’t want to go back to buying new records, but I’ve made an exception for these. CD boxsets are by far my preference, I don’t like the way some sets try and force vinyl on you if you want all the music.
Having said that, these do look worth the outlay so in this case I’m more or less happy…
Nice, but aren’t there any plans for a smaller version as well? I tought that I have read that somewhere. I am not interested in an LP and also not in that book. So far only a 1 CD version is listed at amazon Germany apart the 200 Euro version.
