Out now! DECADE: The Best of SDE 2011-2021

Only 1000 signed/numbered/embossed copies

I’m delighted to say that, after some pesky delays with the printing, the new SDE book, DECADE: The best of Super Deluxe Edition 2011-2021 is out now.

The first of three planned volumes, DECADE volume one offers highlights of SuperDeluxeEdition.com content from the last ten years with superb in-depth interviews with artists, producers, reissue curators and more, along with selected features and other articles.

The 128-page book has been produced to a high standard. Each features an exclusively embossed front cover design with spot varnished highlights and these come signed by myself (SDE editor Paul Sinclair) and are individually numbered.

Praise for DECADE from SDE readers:

“An excellent book.”

“Really chuffed with my copy… Great articles and I even read your pieces on artists I don’t care for. This really is ‘holding the music in your hands’”

“A very classy publication and a right riveting read”

“A terrific read… highly recommended”

“Looks fantastic and the attention to detail throughout is impressive”

“Absolutely bloody brilliant, ten times as good as the what it sounded like”

  1. Read this last week. A fascinating read you can easily dip in and out of which is perfect for a holiday read. I really liked the Dave Stewart interview ( did’nt even know he’s done a book ) and the New York chapter on Record shops.

£30 is a bit much but it’s very enjoyable & clearly a work of passion. Now let’s wait for Volume 2!!

  2. Number 476 was just delivered to my doorstep!! Really looking forward to reading the articles, since most of the people covered are artists that I like and have at least one album of, if not more. Nicely produced from a design perspective, too!! If I had one suggestion for future releases, it would be nice to have an index. Looking forward to the next ten years!!!

  3. Arrived last week and finally got around to reading it. It’s a really nice production Paul . Especially like the finish on the photos. Well done!

  4. My copy has safely arrived in Canada. Looking forward to digging into it. Another wonderful publication Paul. Great work!

  5. Cracked my copy open and it really smacks of a labour of love. All the content is fantastic, and I’m happy to see the SDE vs. Peter Gabriel in there, as I found that event to be a defining moment when an artist has to sit up and listen (and respond) to the voice of the people, not just shrug it off with a “deal with it” attitude.

  6. Paul, I hate you!
Was determined to pass on this, but after seeing the video, could not resist.
Actually it’s not just the content of the book, but wanting you to continue to do what you do, which brings so much happiness to all of the SDE community.
Looking forward to getting some page-turning content, too!! All the best from Japan

  7. Hi Paul . Nice to have Decade n°266 in my hands ! Time to read or re-read 2012 era chronicles and discover World Party (excellent Goodbye Jumbo) Swing out sister (definitely not my cup of tea) and to create on your advices my Spotify “SDE DURAN DEEP CUTS” compilation: i have to admit that it works even better than the greatest hits i own especially fot the first four tracks .
Hold me is the définitive miss track as well as Liberty. Best regards

  8. I have watched this video twice. I first time I was distracted by the boxsets on the background. Now I have a question about the Pink Floyd “The Wall” box. Is this a Japanese promo box for Japanese Mini Lp CD’s?

          1. Thanks again for your reply. I have never seen this 7″ single box set before. Beautiful item!

  9. I enjoyed perusing your background: Nice “Column of Lennon”, and 2 Neil Young boxsets – now that is decadence!
A VOX guitar amp not-very-well-hidden too. Hidden talents being revealed.
And the “five years” competition was complemented perfectly by your Before the Dawn tshirt from 5 years ago.
Five years…five years .. decade. Incredible.

      1. Nonsense! you just need a little nudge…… strum this: D , E, C, A, D, E, and end with an A !

You got yourself a new SDE theme tune right there ……and all you need to know is how to spell DECADE (which you do).

          1. & “Achtung Baby”. Album or Boxset!!

All 3 books magazines is gonna cost over 100 quid inc postage which is food for thought.

          2. That’s the ‘Uber Deluxe’ you can see in the background. Let’s concentrate on one book at a time! :)

  10. Paul, thank you for making these! They sound like a lot of work (and hassle) on top of the normal website work. They are expensive for a glossy magazine, but I’m enjoying volume 1! Vey much, even more than I thought I would! I’m learning all sorts of new things (including the year you were born), and I find myself chasing up ‘older’ releases. The interviews are a delicious read, and I like how you ‘set the scene’ for each of them with a little context and background story. Looking forward to vol. 2!

      1. gosh yes! Of course, I used the word ‘magazine’ in its obsolete sense of ‘A book providing information on a specified subject or for a specified group of people’ (OED sense III.6a). (just trying to out-pedantic you :D )

  11. I heard the Bowie organization is going to produce a limited edition cardboard box to house all three volumes of Decade. There will only be 500 manufactured at £50 plus £40 shipping. (Can’t resist making fun of the last Bowie fiasco.) Seriously, do you have any plan on making a package of all three volumes shipped together so those of in the US can avoid paying $75 shipping on books costing $125. Maybe a pre-order type system and hold for shipping all three together? The first volume looks great.

    1. Thanks. I understand the issue, however logistically it sounds complicated and vol 3 won’t be ready until at least Feb next year… Sadly I don’t think it’s something I can do.

      1. Phew, that’s a relief Paul. I thought I had to wait another 10 years for Vol 2 and 20 years for Vol 3. (I don’t think I would have made it!!!)
Seriously though, the book looks like a great read and credit to you for all your hard work in making this site such a treasure

      2. Order placed. It is an honor to support the website brings me joy and information each day, even if I have to give Royal Mail £18 three times. Thanks for the great website and publications. Keep up the good work.

    2. I feel your pain Greg – a few things I’d like to purchase on SDEShop but shipping costs push it over the edge for me. Not Paul’s fault. Shipping costs are especially terrible these days as we all know

  12. Big thanks to you and your co-workers. Loved this blog from the very first time I found this site by chance some years ago.
    Best wishes from Germany ;o)

  13. Mine was waiting for me when I got back home yesterday – Looking forward to getting into it. Looks really well put together.

  14. Paul, I was wondering what the title is of the music you use in these unboxing video’s. Is it an original or is it an existing track? I like it a lot!

  15. Received mine today and am chuffed! Love the care that has gone into it and that is a signature of all your productions, Paul. Very much look forward to parts 2 and 3, which are essential purchases because that S on the spine does look a little lonely without a D and E :)

  16. Cheers! This looks really nice. I must say when I saw the thumbnail, I thought it read SADE and that there was a new compilation by Sade. I was hoping for all those rare tracks that’ve been left off her reissues. That said Paul, congratulations on the anniversary and the fantastic package you’ve put together!
