In the interests of accuracy, does RRS have the brail on the rear?
No eyedea!
No it doesn’t, but it is absolutely beautifully done as are the other four. Paul’s video is superb, but you really need these in your hands to fully appreciate them.
It’s interesting that some people on this forum are saying that they find SHM-CDs to be an improvement sonically over their humble CD counterparts.
Assuming the audio mastering is the same across both formats (which admittedly is not always the case), the general consensus within the audiophile community is that the sound will in fact be the same. Indeed, that the sound MUST BE the same.
I will concede however that the Japanese mini-LP CD packaging is never less than beautifully done.
Weren’t McCartney and Ram originally released with the Apple logo on the label? The ‘faithful’ replication doesn’t extend to the use of the Apple label, but I suppose this is for legal/contractual reasons.
I never really bother with SHMs as they aren’t critical.
Try your territorial Universal Music site….
Hopefully they will soon release the single disc archive versions of Flaming Pie, Flowers In The Dirt, Red Rose Speedway and Wild Life.
I wonder if they fixed the mastering error at the end of Love Is Strange?
Regarding the thicker tip-on mini-LP jacket construction of the first issue “McCartney” album you showed, that was what they call the A-Type jacket, a replica of the original American LP Jacket. The newer reissues of the McCartney/Wings mini-LPs have all been E-Type jackets, replicas of the European LP Jackets. Whenever these are released, on the official site they will usually specify which jacket is being replicated.
Well I suppose flaming pie will come in a smoking jacket then?
These are the first McCartney SHM-CDs I have bought; and the first SHM-CDs by anyone I have knowingly purchased (as opposed to buying a release which subsequently turned out to be a SHM-CD).
I bought them via SDE and they arrived last Friday. I have a very decent/hi-end hi-fi set-up and having played a couple of these discs extensively: ‘Ram’ and ‘Wild Life’ I am bowled over by the sound. Truly they sound more rich and filled with detail than of the comparable UK/US official releases.
I hope this Japanese reissue programme does all McCartney’s solo albums; and at the minimum completes the 1970s releases taking us up to ‘London Town’ and ‘Back to the Egg’ – which I would be well up for and hope SDE promotes and sells.
I do not see the controversy with these issues; they are not getting in the way of anything from the McCartney camp; and clearly they are no excuse for the five year wait for the Archive ‘London Town’ and ‘Back to the Egg’.
PS. If the Japanese music bigwigs are up for releasing the 16 Beatle albums they have previously on SHM-CD and now out of print I would be up for that too!
I am an avid collector of vinyl replica CDs especially the promo boxes to keep them in. For my McCartney/Wings viny replica discs I have a RAM and Wings Over America promo boxes. I love these… And yes, this is NOT the first run of these but getting them on shm-cd is worth doing as the format does sound better IF you have the means to extract that level of performance.
Some of these shm discs have mqa encoding, obviously if there is an extra layer with better data then yes it sounds better, also a correctly made disc will be more durable, like original cd’s that were made with better production values and have less chance for read errors, beyond that, using good equipment with quality media will of course yield the best results, items produced with care will always win vs media made without quality control, but, if it is the exact same master, sound quality will come down to how accurate your player reads the disc.
Promotes these because they are his most recognisable albums ? Laziness ? Guaranteed to sell? I increasingly think does it matter . This is the first year I have bought less music product than the years preceding. Physical product chasing fewer and fewer punters .
I have them all, they look and sound great, nothing to complain about.
Very nice of course. Waiting for my SDE order of these 5 together to be delivered soon. Could it perhaps be that the masters of London Town and Back To The Egg are lost? It’s mental these 2 albums keep getting ignored.
Apparently, an ex-convict called Harry was entrusted with the job of delivering the London Town/Back To The Egg masters to the pressing plant, but it seems that he’s gone missing. Not the first time that’s happened. Paul’s on the case though. He’s driving around London looking for Harry. Hopefully we hear some positive news soon.
I have never had, despite being an avid McCartney collector, these Japan-only ‘paper sleeves’. For me this one from SDE was a good opportunity to start this collection.
I am also crazy about Japanese CDs, so… I can’t wait to have them here!
WoT ! No london town or back to the egg? Thought I’d get that in first.
That’s a different series. If we ever see them…
These 5 discs are available at Amazon France for 22 euro each and until sunday they offer 10 euro reduction on an order over 50 euro.
But…….why these reissues again????
Without trying to sound negative or a killjoy, and granted the set does look great with the attention to detail, but im getting bored to the back teeth of the same reissued albums from Macca over and over and over.
It makes it sound like these are the only ones he ever made.
Please just get on with finishing the bloody Archive campaign and release the last two Wings sets.
