Haven’t received my order and my tracking info has said “Carrier Prealert Awaiting Item from sender” for 16 days now. I have sent three emails to [email protected], but have not received any reply yet. Almost $100 is quite a bit to spend on a release and I have no idea what to do now. Anyone have any ideas or another way to contact them?
I am in a similar position. I received an email on 9 June from An Post (Irish Postal Service) seeking payment of customs duties. I paid within the hour but the package has not arrived yet. I contacted An Post who said that the package still hasn’t arrived in Ireland (apparently they charge the VAT when they’re notified of its impending arrival). They suggested that I contact The Sound Of Vinyl and ask them to initiate an investigation. Emailed The Sound Of Vinyl twice – no reply as of yet. Life would be so much easier if this product was sold on Amazon as well – rather than the direct option.
Panic over: it arrived today!
To anyone who ordered the cd box: you should check the book, my copy have pages 37 to and including 44 printed twice and pages 51 to and including 60 are missing. I sent an email to The Sound of Vinyl but no reply yet!!
I have checked mine and it is perfect, hope you get yours resolved ASAP ! In my opinion the books are extremely important parts of these packages, in fact probably the main reason I buy SDEs as they hugely enhance the listening pleasure – holding and reading something while listening, so much better than just streaming.
I completely agree with you, the book is a really important part of the package and I really like reading it while listening to the music!! I can’t believe I’m the only one with this problem, the books are printed in batches, so there’s bound to be others with this problem, unfortunately!!
Been a fan of both ‘proper’ albums for a while, but trying to convince myself I don’t need this beyond the first two discs.
You’re making it very hard to stay convinced!
https://youtu.be/ThtehsV0dXg Hopefully this link works. I don’t do social media but if it doesn’t work, @Birmingham_81 has it near the top of his Twitter account at the moment.
It’s a pretty great 35 minute Old Grey Whistle Test performance by the Teardrops in ’82 which complements the new box set rather beautifully.
Great video as always; Already purchased but keen to hear your views of the boxset. For me I’d be surprised if this doesn’t make the top ten SDE for 2023. Amazing book bringing to life the period; Only listened to 4 CD’s so far but loving every track. Not a massive fan back in the day, so didn’t even know about the co- write track with Ian McCulloch (Echo).
Would be an act of Treason not to Reward yourself with this set.
Saw them live in 1982. I’d suggest getting the two studio albums ‘Kilimanjaro’ & ‘Wilder’ (especially the expanded versions on CD) if you haven’t heard of them before (both excellent) before deep diving into the B-sides and rarities featured here.
Not so keen on the artwork as it seems very un-Teardrop Explodes, maybe once I see it in real life I’ll change my mind but for a fan the contents is fantastic. Pity there’s no signed options.
Truly one of the best ‘indie’ bands of the late 70’s early 80’s.
I agree, artwork may be impressive, but how it relates to the band is puzzling me. Seems a complete disconnect.
Book looks pretty good, but am not sure I want to get the set. I own extended sets of both original albums (total 5 CDs), plus Everybody Wants to Shag. I saw them live in 1980 and 1981, they were an erratic live band and I already own a couple of complete shows that were I think we’re free to download on the headheritage site
Thanks for the unboxing video
I really like the artwork. Let’s face it, the original two album sleeves weren’t great design wise – a photo of some zebras and a blurred photo of some flowers. I’d be up for reimagined reissue deluxe sets of the albums with artwork in a similar vein.
looking forward to this vinyl box – looks a great set. A ‘Saint Julian’ vinyl deluxe would be welcomed too.
I have to admit that I have never heard anything about this band, which may be the case because I was born in 77. Anyway, as always I quite enjoyed your video and now have the feeling that I should listen to what this band produced. By the way I also like the graphics on the box quite a lot. Thanks (once again) for widening my horizon, Paul!
I’d start with Floored Genuis for the hits and Jehovahkill for an album proper.
Julian is/has to be one of the last great British eccentrics in musical form.
Alongside John Foxx (albeit different genres) there are very few artists who hit what is good about the UK without a cringe factor.
Thanks for the suggestions!
Great unboxing video as usual Paul, even though I had the 6xCD version delivered last week and have obviously unboxed it myself I really appreciate your opinions and insights, good to see what the LP version is like too.
Quite stunning graphic design attractively incorporating what looks like brutalist architecture. Once again Paul, you make me want to buy something from an unfamiliar band. Will definitely check out their material…
Thanks Paul, I received the CD version yesterday and the book is quite nice and at a fair price for a 6 CD set in the current climate.
I know someone has mentioned the lack of Peel sessions but there’s a CD released in 2007 dedicated to Peel sessions so I’m fine with it not being repeated. I was surprised though that the long version of Reward with the extra guitar bits wasn’t included since other American mixes were. I first came across it by accident when I bought the US version of Kilimanjaro on the Sunclad label on CD not knowing there were different mixes.
