Four fab Beatles vinyl reissues

Universal Music and Apple Corps will reissue four classic Beatles compilations on vinyl later this month.

The classic 1962-1966 (‘Red’) and 1967-1970 (‘Blue’) compilations first released in 1973 have been cut from the original analogue tapes (according to analog planet) and any ‘faux’ stereo mixes have been replaced with mono (using the mono box EQ). Given that the stereo vinyl reissues from 2012 were all from digital masters this is significant. The Beatles’ 1 compilation is also reissued on vinyl having enjoyed a digital and CD reissue in 2011 although it’s not clear what remastering the source is for this collection,

Love is obviously a different situation since the 2006 Giles and George Martin ‘mash-up’ is an entirely digital creation. That was issued on double vinyl at the time but has been out of print for a while.

All four releases are out on 24 November 2014 and Fab Four fans might want to take a close interest in Amazon Canada pricing with the Love compilation just $31.50 which is less than £18 (it’s £32 in the UK) and the other compilations similarly cheap.

  1. I am so tired of record companies originally issuing a “Limited Edition” , only to see the same product reissued for a third of the price. A good example would be when I originally purchased the “LOVE” double lp in 2006 from England which cost $101.00 including S&H. That was the going rate at that time, when it was considered a 5000 copy limited release! So much for collectors items. Another interesting scam was when the original UK Blue Box Collection was issued in 1978. The only new and unique virtue of purchasing this set was that it included an LP called Rarities, which was to only be available by purchasing the “Limited Edition” Complete Box Set. Again, the record company reneged on this by reissuing the same LP with the same name and look, but different catalog numbers the following year. It is pathetic how “they” continually release the same Beatle Catalog in limitless different configurations. Stick a fork in my ass, I’m done!!

  2. I hope with Universal looking after the Beatles Catalogue I had hoped better from them. IE A remastered Anthology set on CD plus a Blu=Ray edition of the Anthology TV series Plus the long awaited DVD/Bluray of Let it Be and the Shea Stadium concert, plus the CD of The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl. All we have had so far is The Beatles at the BBC Vol 2. All the Beatles fans would love the missing links.

  4. Morrissey is singing about a dead pop star, not a a band that broke up, although I guess since Strangeways came out, people have been loathe to apply the lyrics here, there and everywhere.
    If anything, it would be Michael Jackson that would be a suitable subject when quoting these lyrics, and the constant reshaping of his catalogue, including most laughably of all, a movie based on the rehearsals for a series of shows he couldn’t ever pull off. Isn’t Sony/his estate making more money from a dead pop star than a living one?
    Actually that sounds a bit like Let It Be in places.

  7. And it goes on and on and on and on…………….Is it possible to set up a standing order giving Apple/The Beatles/Universal 10% of your income each year to save on these releases?

  10. All four are £28.99 at spincds.com, I`m in for the Blue & Red albums if they`re from all analogue sources. Can`t see the point of the `Love` unless you don`t already own it, I don`t think the 2006 issue can be bettered.
    I agree with Ben about the `Let It Be` DVD, can`t see it coming out any time soon.

  11. How many Beatles reissues have come out this year? Why not issue something truly worth while for fans, like Let It Be on DVD & Blu Ray or a remastered Anthology series, or Live At The Hollywood Bowl on CD finally. Thanks Universal…

    1. Yeah well Morrissey has ignored his oft-quoted lyrics, so that does rather dilute the power of the his original sentiment. Just check out his bundles for his last album.

    2. Well, they’re probably trying to space out the ‘major’ releases, and using stuff like this to fill the gaps. You knew they were going to have *something* ready for Christmas…

    3. So true. The Let it Be DVD is the last remaining Holy Grail that fans would buy up by the tens of millions. If they’d package that up nicely with a re-mastered CD, a 110 page book, new interviews, etc….it might be the highest selling Beatles product in the last 30 years.
