  1. The only problem with this box set, and several others that have mini LP covers, is the discs are very difficult to extract from the sleeve without touching the playing surface.
Also its a shame they haven’t replicated the sleeves like the Japanese papersleeve editions do. So no zig-zag split down the front of X-In Search Of Space and no huge fold out cover on Space Ritual. Not a single replicated inner sleeve or booklet either.
However, that said, if all you are looking for is the music then this box set is excellent and sounds very good too.

  2. I can’t see the name “Hawkwind” without thinking of Neil from The Young Ones shouting at a TV, “Crap!!! Play some Hawkwind or Marillion!”

    No disrespect to the band!

  3. Had originally thought to give this a miss; at £16 it sounded very cheap and tatty. But having seen the photos am now definitely reconsidering!
    Thanx Paul.

  4. Just noticed the latest comments on SDE’s original article of 11 Feb.

Jörgen says: “The remastered studio albums sound fabulous. Vastly improved compared to my ’96 remasters. ”

psychrome says: “The box says ‘Mastered by Peter Mew & Nigel Reeve at Abbey Road Studios, London'”

  5. These sleeves do look better than certain other “vinyl replica” collections. There are no borders around the front cover artwork and the spines do not all have matching fonts (I don’t have the vinyls though, so I can’t compare them to the original spines). Hopefully the track listings on each album are shown as “Side 1”, “Side 2” etc.

  6. My pre-order with Amazon UK is still standing at its originally listed price of £16.91 (including postage). Hopefully it will honour that price and not cancel my order.
