Eric Clapton / Forever Man
Warners/Rhino will release, Forever Man, a new Eric Clapton ‘best of’ at the end of next month that spans three decades of Clapton’s Reprise Records years.
Forever Man takes its title from the single lifted from Clapton’s 1985 album Behind the Sun and is available as two-CD and two-LP configurations with the first disc focusing on studio cuts and the second on live material, including three tracks from 1992’s Unplugged performance. A three-CD deluxe edition adds third blues-themed CD.
Forever Man is out on 28 April in North America and will follow a few weeks later in Europe.

One thing that’s interesting is how similar the concept is compared to Gary Moore’s Platinum Collection (1 CD rock, 1 CD blues, 1 CD live).
7Digital Uk is selling a lossless download of the 2CD for £7.99 and the 320kbps mp3 for £4,99
Useless compilation – assuming none of the live stuff has been unreleased.
Nothing new here. Almost like an update of a “Crossroads” without the early material. A bit disappointing but I guess they’ve trawled the vaults for just about anything new and worthwhile.
I just noticed that iTunes shows what would be the 3 CD version of this set for $40. Amazon (US) shows their MP3 version for about $38. But the physical 3 CD version on Amazon is just under $23.
Why on earth is the digital version more expensive than the CD version? Even the 33 song version on iTunes is more expensive than the 51 song CD version on Amazon.
What’s more, you probably get the mp3’s for free if you buy the CD copy from Amazon…
FYI – Amazon says the US and German vinyl will be released mid-June.
Good Fathers Day fodder.
What Joe Wiz said above…
I’ve got this one on my wish list.
I’ve run hot and cold on Clapton over the years. Prior to last year, the only thing I had of Clapton’s solo work was what was included in the Crossroads box set from way back.
But last year I started picking up the deluxe editions of Clapton’s 70s work and realized I didn’t have anything where the Crossroads set left off.
So this new package kind of brings me a little more up-to-date and includes songs I liked, but never owned before.
On a side note… were there plans to do deluxe versions of other Clapton albums from the 70s, or was the focus just on the more popular albums?
The vinyl selection is a complete disappointment when compared to the 3CD offering.
Another pointless Clapton compilation. The only decent collection is still the 2007 ‘Complete Clapton’ 2CD which is cross-labeled and includes original Cream, Blind Faith and Derek tracks (not live fillers like this new compilation).
Hold On I’m Coming is not blues! Interesting song choices but not really anything of interest if you have the albums right?
Alright, but that disc does have a loose blues theme :)
