Deal alert / Steve Hackett: Premonitions 14-disc box set
To quote Steven Wilson, who remixed some of the material on this brand new Steve Hackett Premonitions 14-disc box set, “the one-off manufacturing run is already sold out on pre-orders at Universal, as well as several major mail order outlets…”. All the more reason to snap up probably the last opportunity to get one of this sets at a very competitive price over on Amazon Italy.
The 10CD+4DVD retrospective which comes in a very smart 10-inch slipcase complete with 66-page hardcover book is just £75 or €102 on the Italian site. As a reminder this Premonitions set contains all of Hackett’s Charisma albums, unreleased concert recordings, rare B-sides, an unreleased studio track from 1978 as well as new Steven Wilson stereo and surround mixes of Please Don’t Touch and Spectral Mornings.
Premonitions is officially released this Friday, 23 October 2015.

Amazingly my Italian Amazon ordered copy was despatched from here in the UK!!!!

I’m very disappointed and angry after watching this unboxing video to see the DVD-Audio logo used on the DVDs when they are NOT true DVD-Audio discs and instead just DVD-Video discs.
Universal should have had someone author them as DVD-Audio discs or used the correct logo to factually represent what they actually are.
I wish there was some way we could let Universal know of this mistake and see if they could correct it by correctly authoring the DVDs as DVD-Audio discs so we can experience the surround mixes in full lossless quality, but I know it will just fall on deaf ears where the label are concerned…
Well, it finally turned up from Amazon, and nine of the fourteen discs are badly scuffed/scratched! What a joke! The cretins who put this packaging together should be shot at dawn (harsh but fair) and the record company should be sorting out replacement discs, after all, it’s basic UK consumer law – they have supplied goods that are unfit for intended use.
All the discs are scuffed. Disc two badly enough to skip in several places.
Scratchy cardboard and soft plastic don’t work well together.
Specially when it’s a fight to get the disc back in the slot anyway!
I’m guessing if I ask Amazon for a replacement they’l just send out another scuffed copy… sigh…
Amazon uk state that they have the item in stock for 87 BP. After Tax reduce + shipping its about the same as Amazon Italy. I rather use Amazon uk because they have costumer service.
Ordered my copy from Amazon UK weeks ago. They were advertising 3 copies in stock this morning but mine still hadn’t been dispatched. Contacted them earlier to complain. Got the usual useless response that totally missed the point so I’ve no idea what the hell is happening with my order! Contacting their customer services is like talking to someone that doesn’t speak English as their first language. Haha.
Received my signed set from Universal yesterday.
Like others here, four of the CDs have light scratching due to the slip in card packaging; all in the first folder, the discs in the second folder are all fine.
The signature is written nicely in the bottom righthand corner of the box in black ink.
On holiday next week, so looking forward to listening to the set between family activities!
Wondering if anyone with sets from Amazon have had issues with discs scratches too?
I expected this from Amazon UK today, just got mail saying delayed, delivery Unknown, bummer
also there is a new repress :

Sorry Paul. I was confusing the Pound Sterling symbol with Euro price listed by Amazon. What can I say -I’m a dumb ( and embarrassed) American. -:)
The price is EUR 101,89 on Amazon.IT which it was yesterday too when I went to the site. I’m not being critical (I really love your site) it is just that when I immediately log on to these sites I often don’t see the discounted prices and don’t understand why.
Bill I am confused. In the deal alert I said the following “The 10CD+4DVD retrospective which comes in a very smart 10-inch slipcase complete with 66-page hardcover book is just £75 or €102 on the Italian site”. So I’m saying the deal price is €102. You are complaining because you are seeing a price of €101.89 ?!
Also received my signed copy, from Universal, on Saturday. Looks like it’s still available to order from their site.

A couple of the disc’s have some light scuff marks, that I put down to the nature of the packaging i.e. they are housed in cardboard slots that offer no protection to the playing surface. Not too big a problem, but a good idea, to prevent further scuffing, will be to keep them in jewel cases.
I have had the box a couple of days now and generally well pleased with the overall content and presentation. However, there are a number of issues that will frustrate many, especially the hi-res surround brigade. The DVD’s are actually DVD Video and not Audio as stated on the actual discs. Also the format of the surround is DTS 24/96 or Dolby Digital. There is a LPCM 24/96 stereo presentation on the Wilson remix discs but not the up-mix discs which seems odd as they could have easily included those for Voyage and Defector. There is also a question on whether the CD’s of the studio discs are new masters or replication of the 2005 remasters. They were mastered by Ben Fenner who is credited on the box set as well, so difficult to conclude if these are newly remastered.
If the multi-tracks are missing they can’t do a 5.1 or a stereo mix, hence why they aren’t included in the ‘upmix’ discs.
Well, because the multitracks are missing, Wilson has created a pseudo 5.1 surround mix from the existing stereo masters. That is included on the DVD discs for Voyage and Defector. That is fare enough. For completeness I expected them to include LPCM 24/96 of the existing stereo masters for those albums, even though they are not new mixes. It would have been nice to have hi res stereo versions of those albums anyway. Then those discs would reflect the same content of the Please Don’t Touch and Spectral Morning DVD’s.
Yes, you’re right a hi-res stereo of the existing mixes might have made sense…
And now sadly “Attualmente non disponibile.” = Currently not available.
They are still accepting orders but with no guarantee of delivery (or price)
I have also received my signed copy from Universal. It’s a nice package but my enjoyment is slightly hampered by the fact that all ten CDs are marked to some degree, ranging from light scratching on the outer edge to light marking across the full width of the play side. The DVDs seem fine, so I can only assume it’s a quality control issue on the CDs. Has anyone else noticed the same thing?
I don’t have any of Hacket albums, so that’s might be good deal for me. Shipping is 20Euros to my door, but they reduce Tax, so it turns to a total of 103 Euro. I think its fine for such big Box. Hope the sound quality is good – i only listen to cds on simple Stereo.
I’m sticking with the recent remasters with bonus tracks, which don’t seem to have been improved upon and getting the Wilson mixes of Spectral Mornings and Please Don’t Touch when they appear.
This set seems a bit cobbled together, simply to create an expensive product. I imagine S. Wilson’s interest in doing the albums came first and when it was realised only two could be worked with this set was created around them. Doesn’t work for me.
Just received mine from Amazon.it :-)
I’ve said it before but I think it bears repeating – this is a godawful mess of a box set. The original six albums squashed across four discs, two albums upmixed to 5.1 from stereo masters (missing multitracks), two albums not remixed into 5.1 at all (!), missing bonus tracks (compared to the most recent remasters), no hi-res…
Mr Hackett deserves (a lot) better.
PS:
Steve Hackett was superb live in Cardiff this month…..and the signed box set arrived on Saturday!
Cool ! Cancelled mine I had on pre-order in Germany and ordered this one :-) 20 euro saved !
I got a signed copy direct from Universal. £79.99 plus £6.95 for courier delivery. That now seems a bargain. I had no idea it was a one pressing run.
Paul;
As soon as I get your emails alert I immediately go on to the corresponding site. Yet, almost everytime the price is not the lower price you have listed. This happened with countless cd sets including most recently the Springsteen River set and the Hackett set above. How could it possibly be that every time these deals last for only a few minutes. I also don’t see US Amazon deals expire within minutes (or even less than a day). I think your getting some wrongful info maybe.
The Hackett set IS still the price I listed, so not sure what you are talking about!?
Sorry Bill, you are clearly in some parallel universe old chap, I went onto Amazon Italy at 18.25 and got a copy and it was still st the lower price when I went back into my Amazon app some time later, don’t blame Paul, he was bang on and I am very glad to have got a copy at a decent price!
Yeah, I got the Yes set again at the same price some days after Paul listed it – thanks.
Thanks for this Paul, I originally ordered this from Am. UK for £85 but cancelled when I spotted it on eBay for £75 inc. P&P.
I became a bit dubious about the seller when I learned a week ago that this box was sold out, I emailed them asking were they definitely getting this box in stock. I got no reply, my money`s covered by PayPal so I`m not worried about that.
I was more worried about getting the box, so thanks for the alert. I may end up with two but will sell on eBay for what I paid.
