Deal alert / The Who: Tommy box

The Who‘s Tommy super deluxe edition box set was released almost exactly a year ago and it is highly recommended thanks to the inclusion of 20 Pete Townshend demos, a high res 5.1 blu-ray audio and ‘live bootleg’ performance of the album from October 1969. In addition you get an 80-page hardcover book with a 20,000 word essay from Richard Barnes. This has averaged around £70 over the last 12 months but you can now pick it up for much less than that.

The Tommy super deluxe is available from Amazon Germany for just £45 (or €57) which is a bit of a snip for this sizeable set.

I think blue ray audio is region free. I only the tommy set and see no mention of it anywhere.

I live n the US just ordered the quadrophenia and Tommy super deluxe sets from Germany for $140US all in including shipping. Could anyone tell me if I will run into region issues? Thanks

A number of the documentaries and live shows/concerts being released on Bluray and DVD at the moment are free to watch on either BBC4 or Sky Arts if you keep an eye on those channels.

I bought this from Amazon.de a couple of weeks ago (keepa.com alert). Not taking anything away from this superb box set, I have to say in terms of content the Quadrophenia super deluxe box is better, especially since Pete Townsend worked on the book himself.

Alright then one reservation. The TV documentary Sensation – The story of Tommy came out on BBC 4 / iplayer then DVD not really, umm, very long after this box came out. £14 on Amazon as we speak etc…
A bit of a collective groan with the timing, would have made a valid and interesting addition to this set. Does anybody exspect the world to run differently ? commercially, no as it happens..

Those sat on the fence on this one, do it. A solid feel about it in terms of form and content. Book especially good. i was happy at full price last year. no reservations. good stuff.
