  1. More TFF on recordstore.co.uk. Bundle of “Limited Edition GREEN LP + Standard LP + Deluxe CD + Signed Print Bundle” A snip at £61 https://www.recordstore.co.uk/recordstore/recordstore/The-Tipping-Point-Limited-Edition-LP-Standard-LP-Deluxe-CD-Signed-Print-Bundle/7AMT0000000

Also, if you’re a Tindersticks fan there’s a new Best Of, with a limited deluxe version, which includes a live album. There’s a deluxe 3xCD (as well as standard 2CD) and a 4xLP box. City Slang also includes an exclusive 7″ with the box if you buy from their site. https://shop.cityslang.com/collections/tindersticks-past-imperfect

  2. On Amazon UK

Black Keys – El Camino 4CD super deluxe is down to £21

Bluetones – Superior Quality Recordings 8CD, signed is down a tiny bit to £39.

Ben Folds – Brick 13CD box is back down to £36

  3. Beyond all expectations my £40 Prince Welcome 2 America vinyl/CD/BR deluxe set arrived today. Sure, it took two months to get here but what a great price. Fair play to the seller (GlobalBuyer) for coming through on that one when they could, as so many other sellers on Amazon do, simply cancel the order when they oversell or accidentally under-price items.

  4. Not necessarily a deal but a heads up. On Feb 4, the Prince estate is releasing a limited edition of Sign O The Times on clear vinyl with a white swirl. It can be purchased exclusively at Target.
    https://www.target.com/p/prince-sign-o-8217-the-times-target-exclusive-vinyl/-/A-85383181#lnk=sametab
The same goes for 1999 but this can only be purchased at Walmart. You can also purchase them from the Prince store but they charge shipping. Target and Walmart do not. In the Prince store, the 1999 version already shows sold out. Not sure if that means it’s really sold out. The limited edition gold vinyl of Welcome 2 America also showed sold out at some point and a few weeks later it was available again. You never know with the Prince estate.

  5. Yknow I really have to grin and bear it with all these super deals, I do of course take advantage* when something I want becomes available. However this is rare because I like to get the deluxe editions I want as soon as they become available, yes I may pay more but not always but I have the advantage of enjoying these releases from day one.

However good luck to all of you who are prepared to hang on and I hope you all enjoy your bargains.

*One of the best bargains for me being the John MartynIsland Years` 17CD/DVD Deluxe Box Set for sale at £145 but Amazon Germany had it for £38.88 including shipping and I was alerted to this by Paul and a S.D.E. alert. Incidentally Amazon Germany currently have it on sale for €897.00!

    1. Yep, they were up until the 6th and what great deals they were! Most of the boxsets with a 20% discount and with retail prices being cheaper than on most Amazon sotes.
Can’t actually believe thay were not widely announced here on the website.
      I grabbed:
-Neil Young & Crazy Horse Return to Greendale deluxe edition 2cds+dvd+bluray+2lp.
-Cat Stevens Teaser and the Firecat deluxe edition 4cds+bluray.
-Cat Stevens Back to Earth superdeluxe edition 5cds+2lps+bluray.
-Cat Stevens Mona Bone Jakon superdeluxe edition 4cds+lp+12″lp+bluray.
-David Bowie The width of a circle 2cds.
And also “Neil Young Young Shakespeare” cd+dvd+lp. which was not part of the deal.
ALL IN ALL A 85€ DISCOUNT, more if I compare prices to other Amazon sites.

      1. To be fair this deal has been mentioned several times in the comments section of this post.
I can see the difficulty for Paul in doing a special post about it because there was no way you could tell which records were reduced and which were not. I guess the tech guys at Amazon have found a way to just match the items that are reduced at the competitor, so the best way to take profit out of this offer was to make a list of stuff you’re interested in and then check them out one by one.

I went for “Width Of A Circle” and Lee Morgans Lighthouse Live Complete box because of the praise they got from people on this blog, the Emerson Lake & Palmer “Out Of This World”-Live set, Studio Albums boxes by Mark Knopfler and Dream Theater, Nick Caves second b-sides album, Mick Fleetwoods tribute to old comrade Peter Green, the new release of “Free Hand” by Gentle Giant incl. 5.1 mix and some “vanilla” records ;-), including the blu-ray release of the latest 007-film.

52 EUR were subtracted at the checkout from a total of 276 EUR so all in all a good deal.

Sat on the fence for the Beach Boys and “Kid A mnesiac” but waited too long. Well, maybe next time…

  6. Rough Trade US has a giant 50% off sale going on now. I bought the Paul McCartney Flowers in the Dirt SDE for $75, and the a-ha Minor Earth Major Sky and Lifelines 2-CD deluxe versions for $13 each.

Not sure what the minimum order is, but I did get free shipping and no sales tax charged.

  7. On Amazon UK (1755hrs 6/1/22)

Price Reduction at the end

  9. Cherry Red have a tasty 20% off their own label releases via https://www.cherryred.co.uk/cherry-red-records-sale-january-2022/ with the code CREDJAN20.

Artists/bands featured are The Fall, The Beatles, Mercury Rev, Howard Jones, Hawkwind, Toyah, Mick Ronson, plus some really good, curated, multi-disc boxsets.

Highlights include: Mercury Rev ‘The Secret Migration 5 CD Deluxe’ at £12 with code, Mick Ronson ‘Only After Dark’ 4 CD collection (£16 with code) and Judie Tzuke ‘Chrysalis Recordings’ 3 CD (£8 with code). Postage extra is fairly reasonable.

    1. Will never buy from Rarewaves, Chalky’s UK, Musicmagpie, Juno Records etc, ever again. For one thing, customer service is appalling. Ok, Amazon can be hit or miss sometimes, but at least you can get through to someone fairly quickly. So many bad experiences with these other sellers over the years.

      1. I have ordered quite a lot from Rarewaves including about 10 albums in one go late November. One went missing and they have been very helpful in dealing with my emails and have despatched a replacement no problem. They are never quick and usually take around 10-14 days to arrive.

      2. I’ve had nothing but good experiences with Music Magpie. Of dozens of CDs I’ve bought, most have been in excellent condition, generally much better than buying from private sellers, most of whom have a very loose definition of “good condition”. The couple of times I have received discs in poor condition from MM they’ve refunded me with no fuss whatsoever.

  10. On Amazon.de: George Harrison “All Things Must Pass – 50th Anniversary Super Deluxe” vinyl box for 132 Euro (with discount voucher that will automatically be redeemed at checkout).

  11. Pretty good prices for some boxes on Amazon.de plus you get about 19€-23€ discount at checkout: Nirvana Nevermind 5cds+bluray, Cat Stevens Back to earth deluxe boxset, Neil Young Archives II, The Rolling Stones Tatoo you deluxe boxset etc.

    1. Great tip on the Back to Earth box! I just grabbed one there for $106, including shipping to the USA. (The special discount basically canceled out the shipping, and the price is already lower than ever.)

  12. Curious to note that “Mona” has been priced in the $60-70 range for MONTHS on Amazon US, yet after this was posted on SDE (and presumably generated more traffic/clicks/purchases at Amazon), the price skyrocketed to $143 US. So, in effect, SDE is creating the (presumably unintended) effect of driving prices UP rather than finding deals for blog followers…

        1. Hoffman is talking b@ll@cks, why is he visiting S.D.E.? To pick up bargains. What is one of the main purposes of S.D.E.? To inform us of available music bargains, not just Paul but fellow visitors to S.D.E. also. Of course items that were reduced in price will increase again, ‘‘tis simple innit – supply and demand.

      1. The first place deals are often flagged up is in the SDE reader comments, once approved. Paul tries to highlight the best of these in his posts and some feature in the SDE email deal alerts too. If you check the reader comments regularly, you may get the bargains before either stock runs out, or the website algorithm responds to the increased demand as they are usually there first, unless of course Paul spots the deals himself first. If something has been a deal for a while but very few have spotted it, the advantage is SDE can draw readers’ attention to it, without us having to continually trawl through ourselves. Another “tip” is to keep items of interest that are too pricey in your “Save for later” basket on Amazon. Each time you click on your basket, Amazon gives you an update about which items have changed. Some SDE readers may actually discover deals on items of interest (at the right price) this way and then also be able to alert others to them, via the comments. It’s the way I spot most of the ones I’ve reported.

        1. It used to be much easier when Amazon allowed you to order items in your wish list by price changes so you could immediately see which items on your list had dropped in price as the largest % discounts went to the top of the list, but i guess they wanted to make it harder for people to spot bargains !

    1. This is nonsense anyway . The reason the price is now $143 is that Amazon US eventually sold their stock (which as noted had been discounted for months) & its only now for sale through 3rd party marketplace sellers which were charging $143 (and more) before & during the Amazon deal & are still charging $143 as they presumably couldn’t afford to price match Amazons discount, so the price didn’t ‘skyrocket to $143’ at all.

  13. Lots of low price CDs at the moment in amazon.co.uk. I bought a lot of rock & metal CDs like Weezer, Trivium, Black Label Society, The War on Drugs etc. at prices ranging from 4.99 – 6.99 GBP. A nice way to end this year :) which seems to be the year that i spent the biggest amount on music products ever (maybe this has to do with working from home and not much going out due to covid..).

Also, i noticed that when i ordered (i live in Athens, Greece) there was no “Import Fees Deposit” as was the case in previous orders few months ago. There was though a VAT that seems to be the Greek VAT (24%). Has something changed when ordering from the EU to Amazon.co.uk? I hope there is not any additional tax when i receive the order.

  14. Wow – great price for the Mc Cartney and Obama/Springsteen books. Hopefully won’t have any of the packaging problems others have experienced. My Amazon delivery person is pretty good though.

  15. As always I order a 7.99 LP from amazon and it comes in bullet proof packaging with an outer box and padding, i order a 5kilo paul mccartney book set and it comes in a flimsy single wall box with padding on one side. Can I assume the waterstones packing is better?

    1. Consider yourself lucky. The first Steve Harley double LP I ordered from Amazon came without any packaging at all, of course it was trashed (and wet).
It’s replacement arrived in a brown paper bag!

      1. Aye, Amazon’s packaging has always been hilarious over the years. Small items such as a CD or a book can sometimes be sent in a massive box, allowing it to move around and get damaged, larger items like vinyl records can have the packaging issues you guys describe as well. I think we’ve experienced it all, over the years.

      2. I had the same misfortune as yourself with the Harley lp. All four corners were bent/ creased. Album was in sealed cellophane with an address sticker on the front. The replacement was properly packed though.

      1. I really fancied this when it was announced. Had it pre-ordered then cancelled it because other things needed paying for. I then saw the reviews and read about “the mistakes”. Seems a shame really. Not even any sign of the offending singles being replaced, but then that might be unlikely due to the vinyl backlog. I have since realised I’ve got most of these anyway on a previous anniversary edition of Screamadelica, so now there’s definitely no point!

        1. By ‘mistakes’ do you just mean the mislabelled loaded 12s? or, is there anything else? I know the boxes where upside-down, but that sounds like it’s simply rectified. & it wouldn’t be the first time records have been mislabelled. Is there any issue with the vinyl? The recent RSD 12 inches sounded excellent

          1. I have it and had to return it 3 times. The first 2 12″s have their tracks labelled back to front so the first one has the Farley mix on it and the second one has the standard 12″ mix when it should be vice versa and there’s a jump on the first 12″ on the b side on the first track but these tracks are repeatedly on the 2nd 12″ and they play ok on it. I bought it a third time and it’s the same but the guys I got it from gave me the money back and let me keep it. Bottom line is caution advised.

          2. I was under the impression that miss pressings were a benefit of collecting physical music? Whereas most ‘mistakes’ and incorrectly labelled vinyl were sent back, leaving only a few copies in circulation.

  16. Paul McCartney – The Lyrics 1956 – to the present is down to half its original published price currently £37.50 on Amazon UK.
Posted at 4.30 am. There is an upside to insomnia!.

  17. Neil Young After the Goldrush 50th anniversary box set. Was £100 when released earlier this year. Now on Amazon UK for a little over £55, free postage with Prime. Also the Fleetwood Mac 73-74 vinyl box set a penny under £60.Five LPs and a seven inch single.

  18. The Waterboys Magnificent Seven set is £34.99 at HMV with free postage The book is £26.40 at Blackwell’s again with free postage. This works out a lot cheaper than any price I’ve seen with the book in the box.
I was in HMV yesterday. Any items on display that haven’t been restickered will be price matchef to the online sale price.
Also Waterstones in store only have 50 per cent of ALL hard backs so some great music read bargains to be found. This ends on Thursday

        1. No-one said the sale wasn’t still running, but the offer that was actually mentioned – ‘half price off all hardbacks’ (which as stated, was in stores only – not online) ended on Tuesday, as per comment.

  19. Ah yes, that time of year where we suspend disbelief and take words like complete and ultimate at face value, knowing full well that 4 years from now a demolition team will find a file cabinet full of tapes in LA or Manchester.

I looked mostly for things with little hope of perpetual reissue. It didn’t start well. Ian Dury’s DIY was cancelled by AZ for “technical reasons,” whatever that means. Deep Discount had the Hackett 4LP/2CD set at $28 for a New York minute, a no brainer. Had to spring for the Rory Gallagher set, simply because it’s a long overdue intro and really well done.

Some DD deals that are still live and worthy of consideration if you’re a stateside skinflint:

The oft-mentioned Sabotage set is $25 and change, which qualifies for free shipping.

Doors Morrison Hotel 1LP/2CD is $27.

Mott The Hoople OAC 5-disc set is $13.

As I think was mentioned a while back, they must have bought an entire shipping container of Demon Records titles, so times are good if you’re a Leo Sayer fan.

Udiscover/Universal had amazing deals—don’t overlook discounted single disc titles, lots of Beatles solo material, E. Costello, Elton, etc. One deal still live and at a similar price point:

Jeff Beck live at The Hollywood Bowl 3LP/1DVD @ $24. Was 21 at the previous discount.

Happy Hunting and all the best –

    Hugh

  20. The Bob Dylan 1970 3-CD set is £12.03 [3 left only] and £12.08 with Amazon fulfilled delivery at the moment on the UK site. After that it is all overseas sellers until you hit Amazon themselves at just under £20. As this is a one-print-run only release, wavering fans might want to jump in whilst some remain.

  21. Now, on Amazon.de, a price guarantee for 75€ for the new 12cd-box set of Nucleus ‘Live At The BBC’, which will be available on 7.1.2022. These sessions were recorded and broadcast between 1970 and 1991. For younger SED’ers, Ian Carr’s Nucleus is probably the best band that came out of the first ‘Golden Age’ of British Jazz, say 1968-1975. Some of these BBC sessions are available on YT, if you want a taste.

  22. Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel – The Best Years of Our Lives (Double/Coloured vinyl) now only an amazing £10.84 at Amazon UK. And I thought I got a good deal a couple of months ago at £13.36. Great album by the way!

    1. Bought this and it arrived very quickly, great bargain. However, they had provided no packaging whatsoever, just an address sticker on the shrinkwrap!!! That said it is in perfect condition, no creases or dinged corners, I think that’s a pretty lucky outcome.

  23. Amazon AU have some good bargains as well. They have been running since 23 Dec. Some are now gone but here’s a few still live as at this morning:
Black Sabbath Sabotage Super CD deluxe $32 (GBP 17), Vinyl Super Deluxe $66, Morse, Portnoy & George Cover to Cover Vinyl $20, Cover 2 Cover Vinyl $17, Lynyrd Skynyrd Knebworth CD/DVD $11, Style Council Long Hot Summers 2CD $11, Tom Petty WildFlowers 4CD deluxe $28, Fawlty Towers Vinyl box $115, Thin Lizzy Rock Legends Box $113, Tina Turner Foreign Affair Box set $30, McCartney III vinyl $17, Kinks Lola v Powerman Super Deluxe $58
    All prices in AUD
    Get them quick

      1. I think you’ll find that the £5.99 HMV offer is just the standard version. The deluxe isn’t even on sale on HMV. I rarely ever look on HMV as everything there is grossly overpriced. A far cry from 10-20 years ago when it was competitive with Amazon.

        1. Nope, you’re wrong as i bought it from HMV myself for £5.99 several months ago & it is the deluxe. If you actually look you will see that the HMV listing clearly states its the 2 CD set with 27 tracks & has exactly the same barcode. Since its exactly the same price as the Amazon Deal you lamented missing, I’m not sure how you can state that everything on HMV is ‘grossly overpriced’. As HMV have now also sold out of it in the last 5 minutes, it looks like like you have missed the deal twice! Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas !

          1. Thanks, Nathan!

I read your post here and managed to buy the last copy (I think) of Warm Leatherette deluxe 2xCD set from HMV this morning.

Then I read Stan’s reply and groaned, thinking I was lumbered with the ordinary single disc edition. But then I saw the 27 track listing over two discs and sighed with relief.

Many thanks! I thought I had missed out on a great deal after seeing Amazon had sold out.

          2. I suspect it may be something I will eventually learn to live with. The grief however at the moment is too raw to discuss in a rational manner.

          3. Your reply wasn’t deleted, it just hadn’t been published. There is a glitch in the comment software which for some reason removes the ‘this comment is awaiting moderation’ message, even though it still is awaiting moderation. I’m working on a fix, but that’s the situation we are in!

          4. “lamented” I think it unwarranted, especially as we all know how online listings are often badly done, especially on amazon.

      1. When HMV online get short of stock/sell out (or they have items that have been sitting around in stores for a while) they often pull store stock & stick it online. I’ve had a couple of items that were out of stock online, miraculously reappeared online in quantities of 1 or 2 & when i received the items they still had store stickers & store security tags on them, so had been pulled/recalled from store stock. Win win for them as they’re more likely to sell online & they clear non-selling items from local stores & free up space for stock that does sell in that city – Though it means its often harder to find gold-dust hiding in smaller local stores than it used to be.
