I think Austria, Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland
(maybe Poland) are eligible for free prime shipping but not the rest of Europe.
For France. UK, Italy, etc. I don’t think you can. I mean you can subscribe but they will charge you shipping if the adress is in the UK, France, etc. Even if you’re a prime member.
I’m in the UK and was offered a 30-day Prime trial by Amazon.de – and got free shipping on all my 3-for-2 orders (most of which arrived next day as actually despatched from the UK). I think this might be a recent change though, as when I looked into it previously the free shipping only applied to addresses in Germany and a few neighbouring countries.

Same for me. I was offered a free one month trial but they still charged me shipping on every order I made during this Amazing 3 for 2 deal.
I’m in France right now (not the UK) so maybe there’s a difference between France and the UK. As shipping was approx only an additionnel €1 per item, it was acceptable but I wish it was free shipping. Most items were coming from France anyway because I received them one day after dispatch and tracking showed it was coming from a northern France Amazon warehouse. So I really don’t know why they still charged shipping.
As I ordered multiple items I thought maybe it was because of that but I just tried an order for one LP (with prime eligibility) and they were still charging me shipping (I cancelled that test order after).
I’m going to email them about shipping and Prime status.

It’s probably the 3rd or 4th deal for Simple Minds Street Fighting Years SDE. First it was available on Amazon France and DE and JPC for approx €22-25 and now if you buy 2 you can get one free. I bought it one month ago thinking the price would go up quickly and it’s still available at the same discounted price.
I wonder why this box set’s price has been cut by almost 40% only after 6 months ? The record label overestimated demand ? Covid crisis ? Or is it simply the fact it only contains 4 CDs (and no DVD or BR) ?
Surprising because Simple Minds previous SDEs have been out of print after one year and now you’d have to pay €100+ on Discogs or Ebay if you want to buy one of them.

I bought it mid-April on Amazon.de for 36 EUR and thought that was a good deal but if i’d known that it would come down more than 10 EUR from that price only half a year later i’d waited.
As you might have already assumed i’m a fan of the band but don’t think this among their finest work, wanted it more for completist reasons.
I picked Steven Wilson’s Home Invasion Vinyl at €38.30 as one of my three. Unless I missed I have not seen mention of this in other posts. Seems a good price.
I was quite pleased at the postage total of €5.71. It could be that UK prime members get a better rate.
Finally, just before hitting the buy button I noticed an offer. This being buy a €50 gift card and get €6 credit. I held off buying the vinyl and bought a digital €50 gift card for myself. Sure enough the gift card arrived , with the credit appearing a few minutes later. I then bought the vinyl and used the gift card and credit in part payment. This offer may be account specific. As others have pointed out, you need to take into account that thr limited flights due to the pandemic make shipping options much more expensive now, so maybe it’ will be a no-deal for many, it’ll depend on the saving you get.
Daft question but never ordered from Germany before .Any hidden charges such as vat or import duty I should be aware of in shipping to the Uk

Not at the moment, no.
No import duty (yet!), but Amazon automatically adjusts for the difference in VAT rates (where applicable) which usually adds a few pence per item – VAT was 19% in Germany, 20% in UK for example. There was a recent reduction to 16% in Germany (due to COVID-19) but I’m not sure whether this reduction applied to all categories of goods.
it applies to almost every category including media (cd/tape/vinyl/dvd/bd) which is at the moment 16%.
It is different with books due to an extremely useless and stupid law in German with set prices on books and magazines (the vat advantage there goes to the seller not the buyer).
Actually steered away from box sets on this occasion and picked up a couple of The National on vinyl and Matt Beringer’s solo… with postage, £14.25 each…
It’s a good time to be in Germany – although Amazon.de have 3 for 2 on many items below around EUR 50, Saturn / Mediamarkt have no limit on the price – Queen coloured box is in the deal etc etc. Allows you to buy over priced boxes at OK prices. Yes about that, why would shipping rated go up during C19 anyway, it’s not like people are getting paid more! Or stuff gets shipped faster. Sorry but proper wtf?
It’s quite logical shipping costs are higher. Air freight transport has been severely disrupted and reduced due to obvious reasons. Logistic services in general (warehouses, road and train transport, staff absence / sickness) are hit by travel restrictions, social distancing and other regulations. On the other hand online sales have increased due to people staying at home.
So think before you shout.
High shipping costs have been pretty universal when ordering from another country other than your own. Most online shops are willing to work with you. Resident has been great to work with as they will hold my preorders, ship when a group of them are ready to go and then they’ll refund/credit the difference. They, and I’m sure many others, calculate default shipping on a per item basis at checkout. They haven’t figured out how to combine shipping for multiple items when checking out. I had an order for quite a few items that came to £400 and the shipping was over £200 at checkout. I reached out to them and when all was said/done, the total shipping went down to less than £60.
The various Amazons have been trying to figure out this new international shipping thing for some time now. For awhile, if you were in the US, you couldn’t preorder anything from the UK, Germany, etc. Still can’t from Canada. UK had a time where only priority shipping was available. Germany had reasonable rates after they lifted the “item not available for shipping in your area” policy; however, they’ve dramatically increased their standard shipping rates to the US over the past few weeks.
This deal is tempting as there’s quite a different selection compared to the US deal. For those of us stateside I’m afraid the best we can do is put together combos of 3 where the savings come close to canceling out the shipping costs.
Amazn.de shipping per item has skyrocketed. Used to be under €5 (if I recall correctly) and now it is €16.96 per item. It’s not been as bad as Amazon UK (£3.08 to £6.94) but if you are price conscious, it is a factor in one’s purchasing strategy and likely explains why the Amazon.de 3 for 2 deals may not necessarily be much of a deal. Would be interesting to see how Amazon.de compares to JPC now.
Another thing: it looks like Amazon UK are charging US state sales tax on items after they remove VAT but adding in postage and packing. One, that is new and unprecedented, two, US sales taxes are not typically applied to p&p.
wowo good thing i ordered it saturday –I have not seen it but always found in some cases that the saved sales tax more than makes up for the shipping.

There was a period where the separate 3for2 deals came thick and fast. A week here, then off. then a couple more weeks all depending on what Saturn did.
Having checked my records (pun intended) there were 4 major ones that were expensive for me.
September 2017 – 21 items bought (Abba solo on coloured / Eno) small items mainly
December 2017 – hard on the heels no fewer than 8 weeks later we had a pre-xmas deal – 21 items bought
Jan 2018 – 18 items bought only 3 weeks after the Dec 3 for 2
Feb 2019 – 18 items bought
I think what distinguished, certainly the Dec 2017 / Jan 2018 deals were that pretty much every single SDE we had been mithering over for the last year or two was in the deal. In one order I had Beatles in Stereo Vinyl / Ten Years War / Pink Floyd Early Years which, according to the invoice, saved me £250. There is nothing so grand in this current deal (unless I am doing something wrong). So there were things like Howard Jones / Yazoo / ELO singles box, lots in the £90 – £120 mark let alone the big £300 boxes and there is nothing in the current deal over 59Euro.
So yes, they are having a 3for2 Jim, but not as we know it.
He’s probably talking about the 5 for 3 deal of may 2018. I just checked my Amazon account and the date of my order is june, 1, 2018. I bought 5 items (including 3 Wire Deluxe 3CD box sets) .
This 5 for 3 was a great opportunity in terms of free items (two instead of one) but not a lot of box sets (mainly LPs or small box sets). I think the 2017 3 for 2 was better as more pricey box sets were available in the deal (Bowie, Dylan, Beatles, Smiths box sets).
I don‘t get that fixed in my account. I have 3 items in my basket which are qualified for the deal, but it doesn‘t work. Where do I see the discount, only if I purchase the items or earlier in the process?

All three qualified for the promotion, but no discount at the checkout. Its strange, because i tried to put every vinyl from above, alone three times in my basket, I would get a discount.
I have experienced the same issue. Have been in contact with Amazon, and apparently there are technical issues with some items, resulting in the discount not being given. Currently, they don’t know when this will be fixed. However, they told me they will issue a refund for the missing discount afterwards if I wanted to place the order…

There is an A-Z list on the left hand side and you can build-up your own focused pages of qualifying releases for your favoured artists but annoyingly the list scrolls back to the top each time and you need to press “see more” and scroll back down for each selection.
Sorry – not too easy to describe but hopefully you can work it out.

If you use a mobile device change to desktopversion.
Choose “CDs&Vinyl” on the left of the screen.
Scroll down to “Artist” and click “see more”.
After that you have a A-Z list.
The only thing is, you always have to click “see more” after a selection.

If you live in Germany there is the same promotion on saturn.de and mediamarkt.de.
The big advantage is that the promotion is almost on every music and dvd/blu-ray item except for most of the pre-orders.

Amazon.de 3 for 2 – came to €98.56 delivered to USA
€98.56 = £88.37.
I went to Amazon UK, put the same items in my basket, no 3 for 2 deal – total £86.75
So the same items would be cheaper from Amazon UK without the 3 for 2 than Amazon.de with the 3 for 2.
As I said, be careful. Though clearly some deals are to be had, especially on vinyl.
Good point Derek. I put an order together for 24 items that are in the amazon.de 3-for-2 promotion and saw that the discount didn’t make up for the extremely high shipping to the US.
Sounds like Amazon. They employ similar tictacs on Prime Day and Black Friday. Put all the prices up then drop them to where they already were to make it look like you’re getting an amazing discount on the day.

I had the Dire Sraits and Police box sets with the Nick Mason blu-ray in the cart but I can’t believe the shipping. Almost $28 to the US, unreal. Never had to pay those crazy amounts before, a deal killer.
