  1. Just received my copy of Bowie’s Toy Box yesterday. Very enjoyable listen, all three discs are great! I can understand why it wasn’t released at the time, it doesn’t really scream “cool for the 1990s!”. Somehow I missed that it was (mostly?) a rework of old unreleased material. I just don’t look at the dreadful cover art, which has no connection with the music. The package itself is nicely solid and well-done, and I always love it when they include faux-LP inner sleeves with the CD sleeves.
Paul, thanks for publishing these deals – I wouldn’t have bought this one except for the SDE This Week’s Box Set and Reissue Deals!

  2. Amazon US price for George Harrison’s All Things Must Pass Super Deluxe Box is $109 (27% off $150 retail price). Universal Music store (uDiscover) still has it at full price.

  3. Anyone not yet pulled the trigger on Neil Young’s Way Down in the Rust Bucket vinyl set the Deluxe Edition is now at circa £51 on Amazon UK compared to £62 for the standard version. Deluxe edition has DVD plus CD’s.
Bought the standard edition so not tempted now!

  4. Black Crowes – Shake Your Money Maker 3CD is £8.20ish on Amazon FR

(Postage obviously bumps that to about £11 but still a decent price and if you’re bundling it with a couple of things, a real bargain)

  5. That production issue on the Primal Scream – Screamadelica Singles box set has knocked another few £££ off the price. Down to £58 now.

Crazy to think it launched at about £100 just a few months ago.

  6. Neil Young Archives II back down to £80 on Amazon UK.

Couple of other reasonable bits and pieces on there

Kinks – Lola Versus Powerman 3CD/2×7″ box is £36

Beach Boys – Feel Flows 5CD box is £59

  7. Thanks Paul. Was always going to wait for Toy to go under £20 before purchasing. To get it for £18.54 this early is a bonus. Threw in a cheap 3CD Shaky compilation to get free shipping. Double win.

  8. I’ve been playing the Toy : Box all week (along with other Bowie stuff) and was a smidgen away from buying this yesterday – it didn’t happen as I was late for a tribute band concert (The Bowie Experience funnily enough) so this was on my “to buy today” list – so 34% off right now is great timing! Thanks SDE.

    1. The Toy:Box price reduction is a bit of a strange situation though. The CD version seems to be no longer available in the Netherlands (Amazon.nl appears to be able to still deliver it but it shows out of stock for other retailers), but then the UK issues a price reduction. All the best to those who get it at this reduced price though. I quite like this boxset.

        1. That’s good information about this being deleted already, Paul. So, do you know if the process for these boxes is to just manufacture once as many as they think will sell, then not produce more unless there is huge demand?

  9. On Amazon DE…

Not a huge saving on the Amazon UK price but Bowie’s Brilliant Adventures CD box set is £76

Really good price on the Cat Stevens Teaser & The Firecat CD box – £63

    Knopfler’s Studio Albums 1996 – 2007 CD box is £21

    1. It’s odd isn’t it. Quiet Life is one of my favourite albums by one of my favourite groups and yet I still can’t pull the trigger. Instead I spent my £23 on a blink and you’d miss in appearance of Fugazi Blu-Ray from Am UK for £23 prime that for some reason is coming tomorrow from Schkeuditz, Sachsen DEI thought it was an actual bona fido (sic) deal, ordered it, told Paul about this wonderful deal for hopefully a few hours at least and then the damn thing disappeared, making me look a bit silly. I was waiting for the dreaded “We can no longer supply this product” email, but no, it is on it’s way. Brand new Fugazi, £23. Chuffed.

An SDE of an album I kinda like, from a group I kinda like. But done well. Is better than an SDE of an album I love, from a group I love. But done poorly.

      1. I’m of the same opinion, I’ve got the original LP, 12″‘s and the first CD pressing and from the reviews I’ve found, the sound of the reissue doesn’t match the sound quality of original releases. But what really rankles is the bootleg CD tarted up (badly), I’ve got a couple of SBD bootlegs in my tape collection from that period, surely they have similar ?

        1. I am the same and I watched the price steadily drop over the last two weeks, in fact I hoped SDE wouldn’t publicise it, to see how low it would actually go! Even at 24 quid last night I decided it wasn’t worth it for disc 2 and I love Japan. Hopefully if there are other releases, this has been a lesson for them in charge to create a better product.

  10. I saw the Stones’ “Goats Head Soup” super deluxe cd edition in HMV, so I checked the price: £39

So, maybe pop into the shop if yr fussed (it was the Reading Oracle branch)

  11. Hard to believe the Brian May box set is still up on Amazon for $29 three days later – clearly did not sell as well as anticipated. Not complaining, I’m a fan and picked it up, but $70 off and they’re still having trouble shifting stock.

      1. The HMV offer was on both CD/Bluray and Vinyl boxes. Both were £39.99 and both were showing as sold out early this morning. However, vinyl box offer is now live again. CD/Bluray has been on/off this morning – currently off at time of writing – but they are clearly adding stock occasionally

    1. Well, I went back to the hmv site to check, moments after my message above. They did have both LP and cd/Blu-ray sets for similar price and saving, but both were sold out : I must have nabbed the last one.

    1. Well, I do. A SDE should be no less than perfect, give or take a track or two. No compromise on the cover, though. Non-descript is OK, fi. ‘Abbey Road’ has become truly iconic, but inspired it wasn’t, I like the back cover more (Who was that girl in the blue dress ?). But ugly is a no-buy !

      1. It’s listed there as they are currently out of stock & showing delivery as being early March – as they default to the lowest in-stock price they are now showing a 3rd party seller, with their own listed under the ‘new & used’ as its not currently ‘in-stock’ for immediate despatch.

  12. Saw Brian May around my birthday 1993 opening for Guns n Roses on their 3rd leg of Use your Illusion tour in Karlsruhe, Germany. Cozy Powell (RIP) on drums, closest to a Queen show I got. At this price it would be rude to not order this box. Peace.

    1. Think i read that as the previous two 80 deluxe editions (Purple Rain & 1999) sold out, they produced a lot of copies of the SOTT box set. Seems like they may have made too many!

      1. They are releasing 1999 and SOTT on clear vinyl with white swirl this month. The 1999 one has already been sold out in the Prince store. SOTT is still widely available on clear w white swirl. Seems to me the estate has designated SOTT as the most important of Prince’s legacy (rightfully so) to never go out of print. Whereas 1999 sold out within a year, everything SOTT is still available except the peach color vinyl and the vinyl 7” box. The peach colored vinyl was first “replaced” by the picture disc (still widely available) and now they have added clear vinyl w white swirl. In 1 or 2 years they’ll come out with purple vinyl, then green & yellow splatter and so on.

    2. The Prince SDE’s have been creeping (or leaping) up in price with each new boxset. I think they over-estimated the demand vs price point for Sign of the Times. SOT is highly regarded as one of Prince’s best albums by the hardcore fans, but it doesn’t have the broad impact/appeal/nostalgia/whatever of 1999 & Purple Rain – both of which had lower price points.

  13. Thanks for that Paul, with a random £5 voucher it came in at £19 and peanuts, so for what it is, it’s a bargain. I wasn’t going to bother and now I know I will end up chasing down Fugazi. This isn’t how it was supposed to be.
