Just received my copy of Bowie’s Toy Box yesterday. Very enjoyable listen, all three discs are great! I can understand why it wasn’t released at the time, it doesn’t really scream “cool for the 1990s!”. Somehow I missed that it was (mostly?) a rework of old unreleased material. I just don’t look at the dreadful cover art, which has no connection with the music. The package itself is nicely solid and well-done, and I always love it when they include faux-LP inner sleeves with the CD sleeves.
Paul, thanks for publishing these deals – I wouldn’t have bought this one except for the SDE This Week’s Box Set and Reissue Deals!
Amazon US price for George Harrison’s All Things Must Pass Super Deluxe Box is $109 (27% off $150 retail price). Universal Music store (uDiscover) still has it at full price.
Amazon US has Prince “Welcome 2 America (Deluxe Edition) [LP/CD/Blu Ray Box Set] for $43.37.
Roxy Music super deluxe box of their first album on sale for $128 at Amazon in the US.
Eesh! Typical. My copy of Toy Box turned up with 2 copies of disc 3 and zero copies of disc 1 :(
Ah that’s a bummer. Still in stock though so should be no problem getting it replaced.
Was it the wrong disc in the correct sleeve or the wrong sleeve as well?
Basically another copy of disc 3. Sleeve and all. Replacement arrived next day and all fine now.
Sorry to hear that. Ordered mine Monday, just turned up and all is in order so hopefully yours is a one off and not a batch issue.
Anyone not yet pulled the trigger on Neil Young’s Way Down in the Rust Bucket vinyl set the Deluxe Edition is now at circa £51 on Amazon UK compared to £62 for the standard version. Deluxe edition has DVD plus CD’s.
Bought the standard edition so not tempted now!
Great bargain as the sound quality is FANTASTIC!!!
Black Crowes – Shake Your Money Maker 3CD is £8.20ish on Amazon FR
(Postage obviously bumps that to about £11 but still a decent price and if you’re bundling it with a couple of things, a real bargain)
Prince – Welcome 2 America LP/CD/BR box set is a much more palatable £61 on Amazon ES.
Rory Gallagher’s self titled 50th Anniversary 5CD set is a really decent £48.
That production issue on the Primal Scream – Screamadelica Singles box set has knocked another few £££ off the price. Down to £58 now.
Crazy to think it launched at about £100 just a few months ago.
Great bargain at Amazon US: The Who Sell Out boxset at 64 $..
Cherry Red Records getting into the spirit of Valentine’s Day with 10% off Feb. 14th – 16th (excludes pre-orders of cource). Code is: CRLOVERS
Does that stand for Cherry Red Left Overs?
Super Furry Animals Ring Around The World on sale for $20 on Amazon.com
https://amzn.to/3BmkpXb
Neil Young Archives II back down to £80 on Amazon UK.
Couple of other reasonable bits and pieces on there
Kinks – Lola Versus Powerman 3CD/2×7″ box is £36
Beach Boys – Feel Flows 5CD box is £59
£59 is an excellent price for Feel Flows which is jam-packed with content. I was happy enough to pay £70 for it last year.
I got the 2CD version which is excellent and keep being tempted to go for the 5CD one. I guess that I probably should go for it.
Toy Box shows deal over but it’s still available at 9:18am.
Still available at 6:20 pm and dropped from £18.54 to £18.53 if anyone is still hesitating.
Not a deal per se but it’s rarely in stock these days and remains a really great price for 17CDs. The Lou Reed – RCA & Arista Album Collection is on Amazon UK for £71.
Neil Young – Young Shakespeare Box Set back down to £28 on Amazon.
https://amzn.to/3oNOry2
That Bob Marley box set has dropped a few more pennies and it’s now £12.
https://amzn.to/3BiTg7z
I have been stubbornly avoiding purchasing Toy Box, mainly due to the hideous cover, but have finally given in. Actually surprised the deal is still on.
My thoughts exactly !
Glad I cancelled my pre-order for the Toy box now!
Cheers Paul, been waiting for this to drop a bit. Fair price at £18.54
Thanks Paul, Toy CD box set is now ordered, I was in HMV today and they told me they haven’t been able to restock this edition so I’m pleased to get this at such a low price.
Not overly bothered but ….what size is the Bowie Toy CD box – from the pack photo it looks like the booklet and box are bigger than the size of the CD…. will it fit on my shelf of regular CDs ?
It’s about 15cm square
Thanks Paul. Was always going to wait for Toy to go under £20 before purchasing. To get it for £18.54 this early is a bonus. Threw in a cheap 3CD Shaky compilation to get free shipping. Double win.
I’ve been playing the Toy : Box all week (along with other Bowie stuff) and was a smidgen away from buying this yesterday – it didn’t happen as I was late for a tribute band concert (The Bowie Experience funnily enough) so this was on my “to buy today” list – so 34% off right now is great timing! Thanks SDE.
Marvellous, just got the Toy box for £18.54 lol, thanks for the heads up Paul, just waiting for a BLA vinyl box set deal
The Toy:Box price reduction is a bit of a strange situation though. The CD version seems to be no longer available in the Netherlands (Amazon.nl appears to be able to still deliver it but it shows out of stock for other retailers), but then the UK issues a price reduction. All the best to those who get it at this reduced price though. I quite like this boxset.
This box set has been deleted by Warners. Once they are sold out at retail, that’s it.
That’s good information about this being deleted already, Paul. So, do you know if the process for these boxes is to just manufacture once as many as they think will sell, then not produce more unless there is huge demand?
That seems to be how many labels operate these days, yes.
Thanks for the response!
My £39.99 Goats Head Soup has just arrived. Perfectly packaged and sent from Germany, although bought through Amazon UK. Looks good.
The (still overpriced but nicely presented) Nirvana – Nevermind 30th Anniversary 5CD/BR box is £74 on both Amazon DE and Amazon IT, which is a bit cheaper than Amazon UK
Who Sell Out SDE $63.51 at Amazon USA.
On Amazon DE…
Not a huge saving on the Amazon UK price but Bowie’s Brilliant Adventures CD box set is £76
Really good price on the Cat Stevens Teaser & The Firecat CD box – £63
Knopfler’s Studio Albums 1996 – 2007 CD box is £21
Not low enough for me to bite on Teaser and the firecat but getting there ! Thanks for the info .
Japan box set is £30 on Townsend Music. £3 cheaper than Amazon at the moment.
Only because Amazon sold out at £24 so the £33 price on Amazon at the moment is via 3rd party sellers. Townsend will also charge you a minimum of £6 shipping on top of that £30 quoted.
Rolling Stones Tattoo You SDE is $88 on Amazon US.
https://amzn.to/34n2zHP
Cheers Greg.
The 2CD/DVD/BR edition of the Rolling Stones Rock And Roll Circus is down to £16 on Amazon DE
https://amzn.to/3gB0jPC
I was hoping the Quiet Life box would drop to a ‘don’t need but still want’ price. Cheers Paul.
It’s odd isn’t it. Quiet Life is one of my favourite albums by one of my favourite groups and yet I still can’t pull the trigger. Instead I spent my £23 on a blink and you’d miss in appearance of Fugazi Blu-Ray from Am UK for £23 prime that for some reason is coming tomorrow from Schkeuditz, Sachsen DEI thought it was an actual bona fido (sic) deal, ordered it, told Paul about this wonderful deal for hopefully a few hours at least and then the damn thing disappeared, making me look a bit silly. I was waiting for the dreaded “We can no longer supply this product” email, but no, it is on it’s way. Brand new Fugazi, £23. Chuffed.
An SDE of an album I kinda like, from a group I kinda like. But done well. Is better than an SDE of an album I love, from a group I love. But done poorly.
I’m of the same opinion, I’ve got the original LP, 12″‘s and the first CD pressing and from the reviews I’ve found, the sound of the reissue doesn’t match the sound quality of original releases. But what really rankles is the bootleg CD tarted up (badly), I’ve got a couple of SBD bootlegs in my tape collection from that period, surely they have similar ?
I am the same and I watched the price steadily drop over the last two weeks, in fact I hoped SDE wouldn’t publicise it, to see how low it would actually go! Even at 24 quid last night I decided it wasn’t worth it for disc 2 and I love Japan. Hopefully if there are other releases, this has been a lesson for them in charge to create a better product.
Beautiful Garbage Deluxe Box Set only £30 on amazon UK.
now only £28
The Motown Complete No.1s 11CD box set price has dropped again to £56
https://amzn.to/3ryatqu
Japan and Curiosity ordered, thank you, you have brightened my week up!
Japans Quiet life Vinyl Box in Germany at amazon as well for under 30 EUR.
https://amzn.to/3JhX37R
Yep, got my Garbage vinyl copy today, decent deal.
The Script deal is back on – currently £24.35 on Amazon UK.
Curiosity Killed the Cat, Misfits: The Mercury Years back down to £10 again on Amazon UK.
Thank U verymuch – i’d entirely missed this release.
I saw the Stones’ “Goats Head Soup” super deluxe cd edition in HMV, so I checked the price: £39
So, maybe pop into the shop if yr fussed (it was the Reading Oracle branch)
Picked up a copy for £40 in FOPP in Cambridge today. It wasn’t on display, but there was a standard CD case in the Stones section saying it was available at the counter.
Black Sabbath’s 4CD Sabotage super deluxe is £31 on Amazon UK
https://amzn.to/3B63NTF
On Amazon US, Rolling Stones Tatoo You Box set is 98 U$, the lowest price as today.
Hard to believe the Brian May box set is still up on Amazon for $29 three days later – clearly did not sell as well as anticipated. Not complaining, I’m a fan and picked it up, but $70 off and they’re still having trouble shifting stock.
The recent Buena Vista Social Club SDE (currently £90 on HMV etc) is now £54 on Amazon UK
HMV are the same price, £39.99. Other online retailers as well. Must be a Rolling Stones official offer.
Tell you what though, the hmv offer seems to be the LP superdeluxe. We shall see (or, I will anyway, I got one)
The HMV offer was on both CD/Bluray and Vinyl boxes. Both were £39.99 and both were showing as sold out early this morning. However, vinyl box offer is now live again. CD/Bluray has been on/off this morning – currently off at time of writing – but they are clearly adding stock occasionally
Well, I went back to the hmv site to check, moments after my message above. They did have both LP and cd/Blu-ray sets for similar price and saving, but both were sold out : I must have nabbed the last one.
A week after purchase, HMV still hasn’t shipped + I received an email that they don’t have stock. A small reminder why HMV really isn’t an online shop …
That didn’t last long! The Stones one is sold out already!
Stones is out of stock at Amazon but HMV also have it at the same price. Been wanting this for ages so glad it’s dropped to a sensible price. https://store.hmv.com/store/music/cd/goats-head-soup-(box-set)?gclid=Cj0KCQiAuvOPBhDXARIsAKzLQ8HuuIMGn7efTvemetyD7sqEeBIFrxIoTN0FhAFdiqBnPOBgYK_dVYIaAsJREALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
Got up this morning to an email from HMV saying the box set was back in stock. All gone by the time I clicked the link….
Great price on the Stones boxset, unfortunately sold out altogether by the time I seen it (20 mins after notification).
Congrats all those that bagged a copy
Went for the Stones. Thanks Paul.
I noticed that the Joni Mitchell Reprise Albums vinyl box set has sunk below the £100 mark for the first time on Amazon.co.uk. Quite a bit actually, with a £88.41 price tag at the moment. https://amzn.to/3uoRWP4
Goats Head Soup SDE £40 Amazon UK now
https://amzn.to/32Yi9J3
£40 now!
Already received my Brian May SDE. Deal of the year and still available at the $29 price. The ugliest cover of any reissue I have ever seen but who cares.
Well, I do. A SDE should be no less than perfect, give or take a track or two. No compromise on the cover, though. Non-descript is OK, fi. ‘Abbey Road’ has become truly iconic, but inspired it wasn’t, I like the back cover more (Who was that girl in the blue dress ?). But ugly is a no-buy !
The Weeknd’s Dawn FM a fiver on cd from Amazon UK
Crowded House arrived today from Amazon, thanks for the heads up!
Caravan «Who Do You Think We Are? (35CD+DVD/BLURAY Box Set)» is 413 $cad (34% off) at Amazon.ca. Best price seen to date.
Marillion deal seems to be over…
No, it is not, but strangly it´s listed under the “10 New”- Button, under the given price from a third-pary-seller.
It’s listed there as they are currently out of stock & showing delivery as being early March – as they default to the lowest in-stock price they are now showing a 3rd party seller, with their own listed under the ‘new & used’ as its not currently ‘in-stock’ for immediate despatch.
Still available on Amazon UK at £24
Chrissie Hynde’s Dylan covers album is on vinyl on Amazon UK for £10.58.
Thanks so much!
Saw Brian May around my birthday 1993 opening for Guns n Roses on their 3rd leg of Use your Illusion tour in Karlsruhe, Germany. Cozy Powell (RIP) on drums, closest to a Queen show I got. At this price it would be rude to not order this box. Peace.
Not really a fan of Brian May but at that price I have to get this. And I did. Thanks Paul!
I also notice on Amazon US that Roger Taylor’s “Outsider” on vinyl is about the same price as the CD ($13USD).
I would hurry on the Brian May. When I was checking out it said that it was sold out, but I tried again & it went thru.
Fantastic heads up on the Brian May deal. Not crazy enough about the album to pay what the box originally cost, but absolutely a deal at this price!
Super Deluxe deal on Brian May. Snatched.
Like Spiderbite below I was going to just get the cd until I saw this.
Thanks for the heads up, Paul
Stone Temple Pilots – Tiny Music… Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop 1LP/3CD is down to £38 on Amazon UK
Awesome deal on the Brian May set. Was just going to buy just the CD version but went ahead and bought this one for such a good price. Thank you!
Augh! I should have waited a few weeks to pick up Back to the Light! Oh well, good buying to everybody grabbing it now.
Wow, thanks for the notice on the Brain May set! Snapped that up quickly in case they change their minds.
Do you think there’s any chance of a repress of the clutching at straws box set paul?
It could happen…
I wonder if the Prince box set wasn’t a big seller.
It seems like on these deal alert posts, this one appears a lot, and often as the lead. I hope that’s not a a sign of it being difficult to sell.
Or problems with the media itself.
At £71 it should fly off the shelves!
Think i read that as the previous two 80 deluxe editions (Purple Rain & 1999) sold out, they produced a lot of copies of the SOTT box set. Seems like they may have made too many!
They are releasing 1999 and SOTT on clear vinyl with white swirl this month. The 1999 one has already been sold out in the Prince store. SOTT is still widely available on clear w white swirl. Seems to me the estate has designated SOTT as the most important of Prince’s legacy (rightfully so) to never go out of print. Whereas 1999 sold out within a year, everything SOTT is still available except the peach color vinyl and the vinyl 7” box. The peach colored vinyl was first “replaced” by the picture disc (still widely available) and now they have added clear vinyl w white swirl. In 1 or 2 years they’ll come out with purple vinyl, then green & yellow splatter and so on.
The Prince SDE’s have been creeping (or leaping) up in price with each new boxset. I think they over-estimated the demand vs price point for Sign of the Times. SOT is highly regarded as one of Prince’s best albums by the hardcore fans, but it doesn’t have the broad impact/appeal/nostalgia/whatever of 1999 & Purple Rain – both of which had lower price points.
Thanks for that Paul, with a random £5 voucher it came in at £19 and peanuts, so for what it is, it’s a bargain. I wasn’t going to bother and now I know I will end up chasing down Fugazi. This isn’t how it was supposed to be.
Bob Marley’s The Complete Island Recordings (11-CD box) is still just €13.05 on Amazon Germany.
Bowie Width of a Circle 2cd package currently an incredible £11.53 on Amazon UK. Also read that Woody Woodmansey has left Holy Holy band, over Covid issues. Such a shame.
Waterboys “Magnificent Seven” box only $72 on Amazon.com. I bought this months ago and it it still hasn’t shipped, it’s now scheduled for next week. They are taking pre-orders so take advantage.
https://amzn.to/3HfRRRs
It was back up to $93.08 this morning on Amazon. I went over to ImportCDs and purchased moments ago for $45.58 and thought that was very fair (shipping was only $2.99).
I think you bought the lower-cost version, clamshell box with booklet. The larger version, with the hardback book, is $94.98 at ImportCDs.
