  1. Finally it’s the right price for me to buy the Prince originals box set from Amazon Italy – €29.50. It’s a shame the postage has become more expensive to the UK at €4.50, but overall at about £28, that’s a pretty fantastic price.

The USA price is also good – see Paul’s price widget in the original article for the link to Italy and the USA: https://www.superdeluxeedition.com/news/prince-originals/#more-149616

The 1999 4 LP version at €44.99 (£37) is also a great price on Amazon Italy, but having got the 10 LP version I’ve resisted this one: https://amzn.to/2Nlrtvz

  2. By way of an update – I managed to get the Blancmange box set and ordered it yesterday from Amazon France. I live in Scotland and…IT HAS JUST BEEN DELIVERED!

    1. Yes Colin, me too. But check it out. All sides of mine have faults. Vinyl is badly discoloured with kind of brush marks. Already emailed London Recordings for replacenents.

      1. My vinyl is spotless and shiny – howvere ugh the sound quality. Stuck on my original Happy Families and then this new one. Sounds like I’m in a tin bath! Also, I had heard the slip cover was flimsy but wasn’t expecting it to be SO flimsy. Creased already and I take the greatest care. Still its nice to have double gatefolds for them all, and I only ever had Happy Families on vinyl. WHILST I’M HERE. My Fleetwood Mac box set arrived (how a slip cover should be) but in my TUSK album |I have 4 inner sleeves but only two records? Anyone know why? And one thing I hate is when what was original gatefold being made a thick single. Indeed other guilty double albums I recently bought was the Belinda Carlisle hist and indeed Abba Gold (gold vinyl) WHY?!!!!

        1. Re Tusk – this is exactly how the original release was, four inner sleeves, however they should fit within each other (in pairs), so the one labelled 1 fits in 2 and the one labelled 3 fits in 4 (form memory). It was an extravagant set at the time. Not sure if you’re implying that the original Tusk was a gatefold ? If so , it wasn’t – the Rhino reissue sleeve and inners are same format as an original.

          1. Thanks Paul. I had always thought Tusk originally had been a gatefold. Extravagant indeed – but at least now i know and thanks for replying.

        2. Has anyone contacted and had a reply from London Recordings yet regarding faulty Blancmange lp box? I’ve emailed them 3 times without reply.

    1. I got the Hits/B-Sides as an introduction to the man when it was first released at the “princely” sum of £30 (1993?) a fortune back then for a penniless student. One of the best purchases I ever made. Along with the usual classics the B-sides are superb.

  3. Here’s a tip for you… I just got the R.E.M. Automatic 4 disc deluxe for £33.95 from Amazon UK. I’ve never seen it this low before. They just need to reduce the Monster 25 set for me next!

  4. Mine has just arrived and vinyl is faded in parts and badly marked. Playing it now to see if sound is distorted. So it looks like it’s the faulty one people have mentioned.

  5. Simple Minds 8xcd box Rejuvenation now even lower at £45. Been watching this box forever and it is finally coming down. Last week it was still £60, then £49 and now £45. I finally jumped. Great price. It’s £60 and up everywhere else.

  6. If anyone is looking for Love from the Planet Gong box set it is available from amazon.jp to the UK for £132 including import duty. It’s difficult to get this now despite only being released in the last few months. Also, there are a few musical guest slots on the Kenny Everett DVD set (inc Bowie) currently on sale at £16 from networkonair.com (down from £40 for a limited time)

  7. Disc 2 of The Supremes Sing Holland Dozier and Holland is what an SDE is all about. Alternate / extended versions which are well worth the purchase on their own; followed by the last ever live concert recording of the original line up. Disc one is hardly shabby with the album in both mono and stereo. Fifty two tracks and two good booklets to read. Some groups would flesh this out over three discs and charge significantly more than the current bargain price of £5.99.

  8. That Rolling Bones deal, Blue & Lonesome, was always a bit of a rip off as comparing that and the regular CD, all you are getting is some paper stuff.
At least the Ladies and Gentleman DVD box set gave you a cheap scarf. :-)

  9. New Order’s Movement box set is at an all-time low at £62 on Amazon UK right now. Pretty good and affordable price. I’ve been monitoring the price the past month and it used to fluctuate within the 67-110 range and it’s the first time I’ve seen it at £62. I don’t think it will go lower than £60 so go for it if you like New Order.

  10. New Order already back up to €49! Curses.
Anyone seen a good deal on the Underworld – Drift box set anywhere? £60 (+£7 p&p) on their own webshop seems to be about as good as it gets.

  11. Spotted the deals yesterday already and went for Blancmange (25,28€), New Order (28,99€), Sufjan Stevens (35,95€) and Third Noise Principle – Formative North American Electronica 1975-1984 (25,68€) and they’ve been shipped today before noon! Fingers crossed there’ll be no issues : )

  12. Just taken the plunge ordering from Amazon France for the David Gilmour. I’m sure it’s not too much of a gamble and the price is excellent: <£25 inc P&P!

As always, thank for the tip.

      1. No problem Barry, happy to share price reductions with people. I’m tempted myself but may hold out a while longer. Hope you enjoy the boxset – it’s such a fantastic album!

  13. I’ve ordered items (thanks to this website), shipped to America from Amazons co.uk, de, and it, and had good experiences across the board. Once VAT is removed, the shipping basically levels out.

  14. what are peoples experiences of ordering from Amazon abroad? How much is the shipping for instance (presuming you don’t get amazon prime).

I’ve never done it before accept from america

    thanks

    1. Shipping is normally pretty cheap. Just go through the process and see what they total cost is going to be, you can opt out at any time. Using google chrome for automatic translation can be useful.

    2. Simon, it’s excellent. I do it all the time. I’m also in the USA. Your best bet is Amazon UK and Amazon Germany. It is just as reliable as Amazon.com and the shipping is sometimes even lower, especially from the UK shipping is ridiculously cheap And when you order multiple items shipping is even lower. Amazon UK has low prices that become even lower when you ship to the USA because they will deduct their VAT. At the same time you avoid the US sales tax. The only thing is to keep an eye on the exchange rate. The Euro is fine but the Pound went up latey so things from the UK are now a bit less cheap than they used to be (but often still cheaper than amazon.com).

    3. I’ve just ordered the New Order boxset – the postage was £4. So with the exchange rate, the total came out at £29 – still a bargain. Glad I didn’t bite on this last year. I think there is a part of me that objects to paying top dollar for live albums – but this is a beautifully designed set so will sit nicely with my Movement boxset and the 12 inches from last year. Let’s hope a Power, Corruption and Lies box set is forthcoming – in fact that goes for all their 80s Factory albums up to Technique.

    4. Simon
Hello from Detroit. I order regularly from amazon.co.uk and amazon.de. I am price driven so its all a function of exchange rate, and shipping. In general the experience has been good but a couple of things to keep in mind

      1. Amazon UK’s packaging can be really crappy. So be prepared that you might get damaged corners and edges

      2. IF you have to send the product back they do not provide a prepaid slip. You have to go to the Post Office or UPS, pay and then get reimbursed

      3. IF you need a refund you need to tell them to credit your method of payment otherwise they will give you a credit balance at Amazon

So with a box set, if it gets to within $10 of the US price, I cancel the order from the old country and settle for the security of packaging and speed of delivery from the US

Hope this helps. Good luck with your Amazon adventures

  15. Finally grabbed the Blancmange been waiting for ages. Anyone know if when I get it the discs are the damaged ones do you still get the exchange? And how?

    1. Colin, i checked Blancmange web site about this issue. If there are any problems you can contact London Records and they will replace free of charge. I was unaware if this issue till i read your post.

  16. Pretty sure this edition of Blue & Lonesome (box with the book) was a 5E (3 for 15) deal some 18 months ago on amazon.fr.
I bought two copies that I really didnt need, but for that price……

    1. I picked up a couple of copies of the Stones “deluxe” when it was in a 3 for £20 deal on Amazon UK around the original release date. It’s currently cheaper that Amazon France on most of the European sites … for example, showing as £7.99 on Amazon UK.

  17. Argh I paid through the nose for that New Order set last summer as it seemed to have gone out of stock nearly everywhere. Blancmange set is fantastic mastering and hugely recommended.
