Air / The Virgin Suicides: 15th anniversary super deluxe box

French band Air‘s soundtrack to Sofia Coppola’s 1999 film The Virgin Suicides will be reissued as a limited edition five-disc super deluxe edition box set this June.

The album has been remastered and the box set will include the soundtrack pressed onto 180g red vinyl, a picture disc live album (previously unreleased and exclusive to the box), the Playground Love EP also pressed onto 180g red vinyl and two CDs. The CDs consist of the album, along with a couple of studio outtakes, and the aforementioned previously unreleased live album. Fans of nick-knacks will be pleased to hear that this comes with posters and a replica laminate VIP pass. A download card includes all the audio.

The original soundtrack will also be available as a single LP on 180-gram vinyl and of course as you might expect, the two-CD deluxe edition will also be widely available separately.

The Virgin Suicides will be reissued on 15 June 2015

Annoyingly, even if there is more than enough space remaining on the discs, this deluxe edition does NOT feature all of the songs played at the fantastic American Legion Hall concert from 22nd of January 2000.

The full concert is (still) only available on a mono bootleg soundboard recording, and below is that tracklisting. The symbol “*” denotes the songs that were remastered and actually included for this deluxe edition in stereo:

Yet again, a live CD added so its deluxe? Zzzzzzz…… Surely there were unused tracks and rare remixes?
And really, what a strange choice to turn into a super deluxe box.

Of all the Air albums to reissue… It’s a nice piece but a 5 disc super deluxe set? A bit much if you ask me. And would it have been so hard to stick the mixes from the EP onto any of the CDs included? Inessential.

It does include the Vinyl EP’s tracks as part of the download content.

I’d be intrigued to check out the live content, but only need the 2cd edition to do that.
