Emerson Lake & Palmer / Trilogy three-disc deluxe reissue

trilogy

Emerson Lake & Palmer‘s third album Trilogy is being reissued later this month (ELP) by Sony Music and the new deluxe edition will feature a brand new 5.1 mix, new stereo mixes and previously unheard version of From The Beginning.

The 1972 long-player is expanded two three discs –  two CDs and a DVD-audio – for this new set, with CD 2 including brand new stereo mixes (and the unheard version of From The Beginning). The third disc (a DVD-audio) contains the surround sound mix put together by King Crimson’s Jakko Jakszyk.

The 5.1 mix is lossless hi-res if you have compatible equipment, if not the surround mix can be enjoyed in DTS or Dolby 5.1 via any standard DVD player (and a surround speaker set-up, of course!). The DVD also contains hi-res stereo versions of the new mixes, as well as hi-res stereo versions of the original mixes.

This new version of Trilogy comes with restored artwork and a 16-page booklet with new liner notes and photos. The best thing is that it is INCREDIBLE value – a steal at less than £12 at the time of writing on Amazon UK.

Trilogy deluxe edition is released on 27 April 2015.

Rick Hi-res

I purchased my BSS DVD-A 5.1 disc back in 2001 & it is one of the best mixes I have ever heard & felt, period!!! Is there another 5.1 mix out that’s not as good as the 2001 mix?
I listen to DVD-A 5.1 in my car (Harman Kardon).

Rick Hi-res

I’ve been waiting for this SOB from ELP since October of last year!!! Finally arriving on May 10. I can’t wait to hear this in its full DVD-A 5.1 glory.
I hope it’s better than ELP & Tarkus Delux editions, they lacked punch & trickery. Note: trickery for me is aggressive mixing like on BSS.

Steven

While I owned ‘Dove’ (as we called the first album in my neck of the woods) and Pictures, it was with Trilogy that I truly became a committed fan of ELP. (Funnily enough, I only came to the wonderous Tarkus later.) I’m looking forward to hearing these new mixes, as my copy wings its way across the seas to me in Australia. Hopefully the 5.1 mix is at least halfway decent.

Alexander

I received my copy last saturday. The 5.1 mix is ok but nothing more than that. I find the SW of the first 2 albums somehow better. The BSS remix from Jakko was also only ok if not less than ok…
The only really positive fact: this reissue is much cheaper than the pricey BSS box.

Dean

Yeah, frankly I’ve only ever read bad things about the BSS box. If it ever hits £20 used I’ll probably go for it, but other than that it seems to be a bust.

Dean

Well mine has shipped from Amazon. Given the price they seem almost embarrassed to finally be putting it out.

Philip Cohen

The release has gone back into limbo. It has been an unending roller coaster ride (6 months so far) for the fans, with no end in sight. This must be the most troubled archival music release in recent memory. Sony should either release it for real, or finally announce that it is not to be. This is B.S.

The ELP fans are being mistreated. The group should go back to Steven Wilson, and beg for his forgiveness.

Steve Moran

Beg for his forgiveness for what exactly ? He has said he is dropping out because he can’t feel the same love for ELP’s music that he does for King Crimson,Tull,Yes etc, which is fair enough, but ELP don’t have to be forgiven for anything

saxman69

Has anyone compared the DVD-A of BSS with the BSS Deluxe surround mix. I have the DVD-A and that seems like an excellent 5.1 mix to my ears.
I never bought the deluxe version because I was perfectly happy with the DVD-A edition.

LedMan

I also preordered in September for 11.78 GBP including shipping to US and hope it’s not a disappointment. Philip, I also have the super deluxe edition of BSS and disappointed with the 5.1 mix. I’m sorry to hear that your copy was damaged during transit.

Dean

Got to disagree with Mike Grivich.

Not trying? A remix is actually one of the more expensive features, and can make a huge difference (Tull’s Aqualung was terrific, for instance) and a 5.1 mix is a great bonus.

Of course, we won’t know until we’ve heard it. but this set is going for a bargain price.

Fat Old Bloke

Mike:
The first 2 ELP re-mixes by Steven Wilson were fantastic! I love them
The Jakko was brought in, and well….the rest is
Hoping this will be reversed this time and we are all pleasantly surprised

progtodd

I’m giving it a chance hoping that the 5.1 mix will be worth it! But check this out! When I went to check out the price dropped to 9.99!

Mike Grivich

Waste of time. These reissues aren’t even trying anymore. New mixes that the average listener can’t even tell the difference anyways…..

Philip Cohen

I ordered it, but, after all this wrangling and multiple postponements, all that they could find is one unreleased track. I’m underwhelmed. I bought the huge “Brain Salad Surgery” 2-CD + Dvd-Audio + DVD + vinyl box, and found the surround sound mix to be appalling. And for my set, someone dropped the set at the factory(or at an Amazon German warehouse), resulting in slight damage to the external slipcase, but serious damage to the album cover for the vinyl.

Fat Old Bloke

Hope the mix is better than the woeful Brain Salad Surgery Jakko did. Was very disappointed with the fact the deluxe version also DIDN’T include a 5.1 mix!

DJ Control

What Fat Old Bloke said above!

A.V.O

The same guy=same ears=same result, awful and boring mix

Neil

I preordered this from Amazon on the 22nd September last year for £10.44. Let’s hope it gets released this time after having it’s release date changed about 4 times.

karl

That’s amazing value compared to Can/US prices. I picked up the vinyl boxset on record day so I’ll keep it at that.
Say if you could ever spot a deal on the Floyd’s Division Bell boxset….woohoo. My greedy little ears need it.
Cheers!

Haze

I’ve had this on order at Amazon since September, here’s hoping it really is coming out this time!
