George Michael fans are told that ‘exciting news’ is on the way

George Michael‘s website currently has a big tease on the home page, informing fans that there is going to be ‘exciting news coming’.

The reissue of Listen Without Prejudice in 2017 has to date been the only George Michael product to be released since his death on Christmas day in 2016. The Freedom film, which was screened on TV networks across the world later that same year, has not been given any kind of physical release as yet, despite an extended ‘director’s cut’ screening at various film festivals in 2018.

Personally, I’m not expecting any major product announcement or reissue, but I guess we’ll find out just how exciting the news is, soon enough!

  1. it is official, all George Michael’s album catalogues will be reissued in vinyl, including the most anticipated OLDER, PATIENCE, a new FAITH LUXURY VINYL, SONGS FROM THE LAST CENTURY.

    1. If you ever needed an indication of how out of touch some people are, George Michael’s team think we will be ‘excited’ that we might be able to snag a Damien Hirst artwork from his collection with an estimate of £1 to £1.5m.

  2. Is this the “exciting news”?

This March, Christie’s presents The George Michael Collection: a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for collectors, art lovers and legions of fans to acquire works from the legendary recording artist’s private collection. Over 200 lots will be offered across a live auction in London on 14 March and an online sale from 8–15 March.

btw, the “Double Life of George Michael” documentary and “The Nation’s Favourite George Michael Song” are both repeated on Channel 5 in the UK late tonight (Fri 8th)

  3. Hopefully it’s the 1080p video of the Freedom 90 video they went to great effort and expense to remaster and then did nothing with it!?!? It’s right up there with the remastered Micheal Jackson Thriller video shown once at Cannes and then nothing?!?! Why Why Why? It makes no sense.

  4. I would be happy with a live album, or even concert dvds. I’ve never seen him in concert and it would be good to see. I don’t think he had catalogs of material like Prince had.

  5. HMV released Freedom 90 as a Limited Edition HMV exclusive 7″ vinyl single after George’s death. I have it. I am hoping for some George DVDs or Blu-Rays. God bless George.

  6. I’ve heard that Legacy (Sony) is going to reissue all George Michael’s albums in vinyl, including Patience, Older, Songs from the last century and Symphonica, plus special limited edition and a new Greatest Hits.
Also in program the Faith tour DVD with special wham the final documentary.
and the Freedom Film director’s cut DVD
The Greatest Hits I guess is going to be out next Christmas including few new songs, but I dont think we are going to have a full album out, only few songs where finished by George himself.

  7. Whatever it is, it will be special. I hope it is a live DVD of some of his concerts. I will be happy no matter what. It will be so nice just to have something new. I have been a fan from day one. He was such a special person. One in a million !

  8. What was a surprise for the Listen without Prejudice box set which I have the could have added the Blu Ray of the footage from The MTV performance n all he music video promos for all the singles that came off the album.. hopefully they will release a deluxe Box Set of Older which I hope they do..and contain all the remixes and extended versions and maybe the demos..Fastlove/I’m you man Extended version from the Fastlove CD single is amazing..manbye include the Music videos and and some rare TV performances of the tracks ..also why didn’t they release “…Prejudice” Like Fleetwood Mac box sets Tango and Rumours which contained the LP. And DVDs besides the CDs

  9. Like others i’m hoping for an Older vinyl reissue, but make it a double vinyl as the album is 59 minutes long, too long for single vinyl. That is one reissue i’ve long wished for. Hopeful!

  10. I mean, by all accounts theres quite a bit of stuff either studio based or live in the archive – I suppose quite a bit will slip out over time – as what George did or didn’t want becomes a little more foggy and lost in time. I’m not sure there is a great deal of evidence that many artists held back anything truly stunning. I guess Lennon had some pretty cool stuff post death – but then he was working on an album – and equally Prince’s estate have put out some official versions of some previously leaked but none the less massively splendid tracks – but I guess it’s rare. We have to hope that perhaps George’s quality control was a little ott and there is gold in there them hills…

  11. My money is on a live album. David Austin said in an interview after GM’s passing that he was extremely picky about his live recordings. There was sth ready to be released but GM held it back bc he didn’t like some of the live performances.

  12. Maybe the Robert Steele book, “Careless Whispers: the Life and Career of George Michael” is being made into a screenplay for an upcoming major movie release with a deluxe soundtrack of original and unreleased material. Oh, wishful thinking :-|

      1. Hi Michalis, Bare by George Michael & Tony Parsons is good. From the Wham! years I’m coming to take you to lunch by Simon Napier Bell is entertaining.

  13. Oh, man, I can’t wait – unless it’s a remastered Songs Of The Last Century, in which case I can – but anything Wham! or GM related is good with me. A singles box set would be…Epic!

  14. Personally, whatever the news is, just in terms of the announcement itself, I think the tone should be a bit more subdued…..rather than putting the word “exciting” as a teaser….

After all, the man is, unfortunately and very sadly, no longer with is.

Any new release of re-packaged / unreleased material is, of course, very welcome, but from my perspective – “exciting” is not the word I would put it in bold letters to announce it, due to the mere realization that he can never again grace us again with his amazing writing and vocal delivery.

    1. I agree with you, I thought it was a bit insensitive. I can’t say I’d feel excited about whatever is announced. I’m still very upset that someone so talented lost to his demons.

      1. No George Michael still being alive and producing new material would be exciting!
There’s a reason why material is left unreleased by an artist, it’s normally not very good.
Sorry to break this news to everyone but that amazing album of unreleased songs by Bowie/Prince/Lennon… just add the name of your favourite dead musician…. DOESN’T EXIST
How is the release of tarted up demos, done against the artists wishes, ever exciting?

  15. I sure hope it’s an Older reissue. The prices on the vinyl are insane! There’s enough for a multi-disc cd upgrade as well!

    1. Deffo. Like paul young recent CD singles colkection. The original 7” vinyl version of last christmas springs to mind. It sounds like a demo but was released back in 84. The iconic picture sleeve of wake me up… released as a CD single

  16. Might be new of the new album of unreleased stuff thats going to be the soundtrack to that Last Christmas film thats due out this year. Written by Emma Thomson if I remember..

  17. I know what it is. It’s a Last Christmas 6-CD box set containing every remix and demo of the classic track, plus covers of it including the version by Whigfield.
