Mylene Farmer / Interstellaires / Collectors Edition CD box

interstelleraires

French pop icon Mylène Farmer releases Interstellaires this week, her tenth studio album, including a limited edition CD box set…

Farmer has teamed up with Cherrytree Records founder and producer Martin ‘Cherry Cherry Boom Boom’ Kierszenbaum – best known for his work with Robyn and Lady Gaga – for this, her first album release since Timeless 2013. Kierszenbaum also co-wrote nine of the album’s 11 songs, but the lead single is a duet with Sting called Stolen Car, a cover of a song that first appeared on Sting’s 2003 album Sacred Love. Stolen Car was released in August and reached number one in the French charts, Farmer’s 14th chart topper.

Now 54 years old, Farmer is the most successful French artist of all time with in excess of 30 million records sold, including 11 million albums worldwide. She was also the first female artist ever to sell out the 80,000-capacity Stade de France in Paris two nights in a row and her last arena tour was sold out a year in advance. The ‘French Madonna’, Farmer has been a fixture in the French charts across four decades due to her experiments within the pop genre and tendency to court controversy, such as with her very naked video for 1986 hit Libertine.

The new album is being released in France by the Polydor label, by Wrasse Records in the UK and Cherrytree Records/Interscope in the United States, and is available as a standard CD, double LP, a limited edition CD digipack or collectors’ edition.

Details are sketchy with regards to the expensive collectors’ edition, but we know it comes in a large format (31cm x 31cm) book format, although appears to offer nothing extra in the way of audio or video! A double LP vinyl version of Interstellaires is also available.

Interstellaires is released on 6 November 2015.

Thanks for posting about Mylene Farmer Paul! She’s a unique talent with an amazing catalogue. I have several of her albums, all are outstanding! I also have the 2CD “Dance Remixes” which I can recommend wholeheartedly. All original 80’s remixes. Great stuff.

What a lovely surprise to see an article on Mylene´s new album here. I am a big fan, own all her albums and can’t wait for the new one. As for her collectors editions, they usually offer special packaging but usually no extra music. The deluxe edition of her Greatest Hits album Les Mots did add a bonus CD with some rare tracks though, as well as a DVD.

Mylene has an extremely loyal fanbase in France and the physical formats of her singles sell very well (“Stolen Car” managed to get to #1 before the CD & 12″ singles came out, but dropped out of the top 20 the week after. As soon as the physical formats came out, the song went straight back to #1).

All I say is WOW, Mylene mentioned here, and that this new album is actually being released in the US, on CHERRYTREE/Interscope!! I collect that label and have met Martin K a coupla times at shows before, once at Robyn/Natalia Kills at Radio City Music Hall & at Webster Hall at Michael Kiwanuka’s show!! Tried to get him to release Cheryl from Girls Aloud’s 3rd solo album here, “A Million Lights”, because it would’ve worked and sold in the US as it had a US-friendly EDM sound, and nothing Cheryl or GA ever had a US release before.

Anyhoo, I know Mylene has a bunch of collector’s items, but the only one I have is on her 2CD hits collection “Les Mots” because it’s an anthology and the packaging is a knockout, the way it folds. Lastly, Mylene is NOT French, she’s French-CANADIAN, big difference, although she is huge in France and mostly only sings & writes in French, but she transcends the language and culture and can appeal to anyone with open ears and loves cool electronic dance pop. Now I have to look out for US concerts!!!!!

Um, what deluxe edition of “Let Mots”?? The only deluxe I saw was the 2CD softpack I have and the way it unfolded like a cross…no 3rd CD and no DVD of videos…unless that was a SUPER deluxe edition I didn’t know about. I wasn’t buying stuff online that year and we had the Virgin Megastore then, and they did not stock a version like that. What are the details on it??

You can find info/track list on Wikipedia for example:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Mots_(album)

It came in a beautiful longbox with four picture discs (although the DVD only has the video for “Les Mots”).

I’ve always wondered about Mylene’s ‘collectors editions’. I think there are collectors editions of all her albums, but they never offer anything extra in terms of music. What’s the point? I’m glad anyway, because there’s no way I’m shelling out that much money for any (1 disc) album.
