What really can crash a romantic marriage is money issues.
Cheapest price so far is at Whatrecords.co.uk on the deluxe box set, which is £89.99 + £8 shipping, so total price £97.99, £11 cheaper.
Still a complete and utter rip off. Anyone who buys the box is paying £75-85 for this:
56 page hardback coffee table book with exclusive sleeve notes
12 x 12” print
Tote bag
Enamel keyring
Badge set
Set of 5 postcards
Exclusive 7″
This has got to be the most overpriced box set so far, I just cannot understand why they are asking £109 when the CD’s and vinyl are available separately for £33 all in at the moment. The music will obviously be good but there is simply no reason for the box set to exist and it is so obviously padded out.
There should have been two buying options. Triple CD package or the vinyl.
The extra tat, I would expect to see it all for less than a tenner on a market stall.
With you on that Jim. Haven’t seen a finished set yet (so will reserve judgement) but this could well rival The Rolling Stones’ GRRR SDE box as one of the worst boxes ever, in terms of the value/content ratio. Shame on the Gallagher brothers for approving a £100+ retail price for a £50-65 product.
I received the Japanese version today, ordered a few weeks ago at CDJapan & there were no importduties of extra costs …..
Remastering Oasis: is there something audiophile with their productions? Nope …. But the Japanese version is always something special. And it has an OBI strip.
Interested in the japanese version for the two bonus tracks, where is the best place to order them from, when ordering from the uk. I have used HMV and CDJapan before but there may be the dreaded import taxes
Paul says in the original article that the Super Deluxe Edition will be “very” limited, according to the record company. Is it possible he, or anyone, could find out an actual number? For what you get for the price, I hope it’s much more limited than Apple claimed The Beatles Mono Box set was going to be back in 2009. I have it pre-ordered; but I’m on the fence about keeping it with the only bonus content music-wise is getting that exclusive 7″. Personally, to make it look better, I would have included another exclusive vinyl LP or two to the box containing the material from the b-sides disc.
Also, if anyone’s interested, both the Japanese one-disc and three-disc sets will have two exclusive bonus tracks: “Shakermaker (Slide Up Mix)” and “Bring It On Down (Monnow Valley)”
I agree with David- the super deluxe set should live up to its name. I dont want to pay a premium for an oasis “bag for life” a hardbacked magazine and a few badges, i want more audio and video content! They could have added extra discs from the era. How about wolverhampton cd, full academy gig on cd, a dvd of the chicago gig and a cd of the newly remastered demo tape plus other demos on the same disc? How about an exclusive dl code for the whole lot of audio ive just mentioned but in hd audio?
Even if they included the demo tape in the set instead of selling it seperately for a tenner extra would make more incentive to buy it.
I’m getting the 3-CD deluxe edition. I would have probably paid the extortion for the super deluxe set if it had included a Hi-Rez version of the music. It needs to be issued on SACD or Blu-ray.
i really have no interest in whether the Gallagher’s approve, were involved, etc. We shouldn’t lump Oasis in the same class as The Smiths.. a band we’d all much sooner care about protecting.
Judging by Liam’s tweets, the Gallaghers have had absolutely nothing to do with the reissues.
You have to wonder what the Noel and Liam of 1994 would have said about a band charging quid for ONE fookin’ album.
You’ve changed, man.
In addition to this set, I pre-ordered directly from the Oasis site the Limited cassette of demos. Is there any way to see if there will be a Digital Download card with that cassette?? I want the music… the demos, but I have no way of playing the cassette. Buying it strictly for the collectibility, the coolness factor, and for nostalgia’s sake. Can we check to see if there will be a download of WAVs, AIFF Files or MP3s to accompany the cassette? THANKS!
Going back to the Dig Out Your Soul deluxe set (which I agree, is a very well put together set), I think the main reason behind the depreciation of that was simply that they produced far too many of them. I remember reading somewhere that they made around 75,000 of them, which is insane for a Limited Edition, and yes the bottom price from them was £17.99 at one point.
I’ve gone for the vinyl as others have mention original/reissues go for silly money nowadays. Nice that you the download link to the 3CD set as well. I may get the 3CD version at some point – just so i own a physical version of the demos – i have all the singles so not bothered about the b-sides. Interesting to see how this will sound with the new mastering – i remember when the ‘Stop The Clocks’ collection came out and i remember the tracks sounding more open with less limiting on there so hopefully the same techniques will be used here.
Very odd pricing of the “super deluxe box” what with all the audio being available on the much cheaper 3 CD edition and all credit to them for not baiting fans with exclusive content as other boxes do.
If I also want the option of having the audio on the included vinyl I can get it separately for £20 at it’s current price so that’s £35 for the 3 CD’s and vinyl.
So at current pricing, for an extra £75 over the price of buying the separate CD’s and vinyl you are getting a 7″, book, canvas handbag and novelty items (badges, postcards, keyring etc)!!!
OK… I must have missed something. Not read an explanation or whatever, but the 6CD version…. seems to have only 3CDs mentioned.
“The 6 CD box set includes a large box with magnetic closure lid containing:
3CD Deluxe edition
2 x heavyweight vinyl, Gatefold LP sleeve with inner bags
56 page hardback coffee table book with exclusive sleeve notes
12 x 12” print
Tote bag
Enamel keyring
Badge set
Set of 5 postcards
Exclusive 7″ ”
In the same description it does mention that the first three albums have been remastered and [presumably they mean will be] released in chronological order. But it doesnt mention that they have been included. So what are the other 3CDs?
Steve
I assume it should be ‘6 disc’, which would include the 3 CD’s, double LP and 7″.
Like other recent reissues, Grace Jones and Aztec Camera being two, the vinyl offer wins out here for me again. You get all the emotive packaging plus access to all the music included in the CD offer as downloads.
And i would also vouch for the speculative pre-ordering on boxsets Mr Sinclair mentioned earlier. If you’ve followed this site in recent months you’d have seen some big price changes occurring.
Will deffo nab the 3 Disc set but that deluxe bos set will have to drop to at least 60 quid before i would consider buying it. The bonus disc material looks great though!
Before I clicked on the pre-order link at Amazon I made a mental calculation of what I thought the super deluxe box set would clock in at – based on other recent SDEs I thought the price would be around £60.
£109 ? Really !?!
It’s a lot. I have a feeling this might drop significantly on Amazon, so certainly worth a speculative pre-order. Pricing to one side, the box set needed some unique and substantial audio element to set it apart from the 3-disc set. Inside if feels like the 3CD set and lots of padding. The 2LP is just repeating content and shouldn’t really be part of the set. The only reason to include is to (try and) justify the high price.
Looking forward to these reissues!
Owen Morris also mentioned on an Oasis forum a few days back that the mastering engineer Ian Cooper also made some hi-res 24/96 versions of the first three albums, for download. Anyone seen any news on this? I guess they may come out on HD Tracks? Or maybe the album itself will just come out on Blu-Ray Pure Audio, without the bonus tracks (similar to the Nirvana reissue on that format).
I’m also looking forward to release of 24/96. Seems nobody knows what is or cares for that matter, says it all really.
If anyone knows or if anything changes let me know
cheers
David – yes, looks that way, no exclusive audio on the boxset.
Rare glam – as far as I know there hasn’t been any Oasis album boxset reissue. Their original vinyl albums seem to go for silly money now (especially those that were available to the mailing list only).
I’ll be going for the 3cd edition. The tracklisting looks pretty decent, although I would’ve liked to have seen them squeeze on the version of ‘Fade Away’ from the ‘Help’ charity album with Noel on vocals, it would certainly have fitted in era-wise.
Also ordered one of those replica demo cassettes from their store. Will likely never play it, but just had to have it. I feel like Alan Partridge and his tungsten-tipped screws : “Never gonna use em, never gonna use em…”
The vinyl box set from 2009 was £100 when it came out, great set and great value competed to this new one. Still on Amazon, although long unavailable http://www.amazon.co.uk/LP-Box-Set-VINYL-Oasis/dp/B002D1GNZU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1393453507&sr=8-1&keywords=oasis+vinyl+box+set
The 4LP+2CD+DVD+Book set of Dig Out Your Soul was only £50 when that came out. It has now ‘appreciated’ down to £35 on Amazon. I’m sure it was £17.99 at some point, somewhere. Putting the merits of that album to one side, the quality of the packaging of that box is superb.
I got the Dig Out Your Soul box for around £16.00 a couple of years ago from Zaavi when they began a clear out of all their music stock. Bargain or what!!!
This new package is very dissapointing though. I’m sticking with my original vinyl set thankyou.
So from what I can see, all the available CD audio that is included in the ‘super deluxe box’ is also complete on the 3 CD version with the only extras in the box being the vinyl and merchandise (badges etc). Is that correct?
All nice items for the fan collector, but personally, as someone who has not already got everything, I’d rather their entire output was made avilable a la the Blur box set, e.g. 2xcd editions of each album + rarities CDs in one neat box, likewise the complete CD singles, as I am not too keen on paying £275 for the Japanese CD singles box from a few years back. Am I right in thinking Oasis only ever reisued their albums as a box set in vinyl or have I missed something (I’m no expert on them)?
Notwithstanding the Japanese mini LP CD set of course, I meant more generally..
It’s not Glasgow Tramshed – it’s the Tramway Theatre.
I hope they have a better attention to detail for the rest of the box :-)
Gah, where’s the live “Bring It On Down’?
I mirror the reply from Phil Wilson, I think the links to purchase from the Oasis webstore should be added to list of available places to buy as there are extra incentives to do so, for example cheaper price + bonus items when ordering from there for Deluxe edition.
3 Disc special ordered. Hopefully will sound as good as the Japanese copy in my drawer at the moment.
If you order from the bands own website it is £100 + £10 postage BUT you get a repressed Whatever 12″ single, exclusive to their store PLUS you can buy a replica cassette of their original 8 song demo tape for £10
Hopefully the other albums, after Be Here Now, will come out next year. But this looks pretty decent, except for the entirely unnecessary 1CD option…
