For some reason the PR machine choose to announce the Roger Waters The Wall audio editions later than the video formats, so I can now bring you details of those.

The soundtrack to ‘Roger Waters The Wall’ as it now seems to be called, will be available as a triple-vinyl set and a two-CD edition and has been produced by Nigel Godrich.

This will be released on 20 November a few days after the blu-ray/DVD releases, although be warned that a Super Deluxe Edition is going to be announced next week, which if I were to guess, is likely to be some kind of ‘combo’ set featuring book, CD and/or vinyl, blu-ray etc. I will keep you posted.

London, 8 October 2015 – Roger Waters The Wall, the eponymous soundtrack to the globally acclaimed feature film by Roger Waters and Sean Evans, will be released by Columbia / Legacy Recordings on 20 November 2015. Available physically on 2CD, 3LP vinyl, and digitally, the set captures Waters’ sold-out 2010-2013 “The Wall Live” tour, the first complete staging of the classic Pink Floyd concept album since 1990 and is currently available for pre-order at RogerWaters.com. A tour-de-force of rock & roll stagecraft anchored in a powerful message of peace and compassion, “The Wall Live” became a must-see concert event for music fans everywhere. It played to over 4.5 million people at more than 200 shows across four continents, making it the most successful worldwide tour by a solo artist in history.

 

Roger Waters The Wall is produced by Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, Beck, Paul McCartney) and offers an exhilarating listening experience for generations to enjoy. It is the ultimate concert souvenir – not only for the fans who saw the show, but for those who weren’t there or who may be discovering “The Wall” for the first time.

 

Roger Waters The Wall also serves as a companion piece to the feature film, ROGER WATERS THE WALL. Originally released in 1979, Pink Floyd’s “The Wall” was the band’s first narrative concept album. Waters drew from personal history to chart the life and times of the central character, a mentally disintegrating rock star haunted by the wartime death of the father he never knew. The album’s thematic content and musical mastery, exemplified by worldwide chart-topper “Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)” and radio staples “Run Like Hell” and “Comfortably Numb,” struck a chord with audiences worldwide.  Pink Floyd’s subsequent 1980-81 tour for the album was unprecedented in its use of sets and theatrics, but the scale of production limited it to 31 dates in just four cities. “The Wall” wouldn’t be seen again until 1990, whenWaters and an all-star cast performed a benefit production on the site of the no-man’s-land that had until recently divided West and East Germany. Twenty years later, concertgoers had the opportunity to experience “The Wall” anew, and millions of fans affirmed that its message and music remain potent and relevant as ever.   6. There are only two versions of The Wall that I am waiting for. A 5.1 surround release of the studio album and a live version, both played by the Pink Floyd on DVD.

  10. Am I the only one to that thinks that Roger Waters has done nothing spectacular since he left Pink Floyd. He has been repackaging “The Wall” for 36 years! I’ll stick with my Pink Floyd version from the winter of 1979. He is definitely not improving on the definitive version. I think it is time for him to retire or join a Pink Floyd tribute band.

  11. Addendum. This is based on my book self-publishing experience – it may be different for the music industry. However, I don’t believe it’s necessarily Amazon who are controlling the higher pre-order prices. Perhaps it’s something Paul could check out if he has a contact who might know?

  12. Tom Gardner, Andy and Neil – it is my experience that the product owners set the prices on Amazon. Amazon is the distributor and doesn’t get involved in price decisions.

    So perhaps the higher Amazon prices are to drive the pre-orders to product owner’s home sites, and the prices are re-set later for the general public worldwide who mostly use Amazon when it’s actually released.

    1. Amazon buy the product at the dealer price, which is basically a wholesale price and then sell at the retail price. The level of the retail price depends on how much margin they want to make. But the retail price is decided by Amazon not any record company. So for instance if a £10 CD costs Amazon £6 to buy their margin would be £4. Amazon doesn’t seem to need to make much of a profit though, which is why it’s hard for others to compete. They might sell the CD that costs them £6 at £5 if it suits their purpose/strategy. Amazon are the retailer, rather than the ‘distributor’. They also have to add VAT of 20% to the price (for EU sales).

    1. I think it’s already been confirmed that t doesn’t include that. Which is a shame. I respect Waters’ vision for the film, but you’d think he’d realize folks who want to relive the show don’t necessarily want to watch him visit his family’s graves over and over.

      1. I know that’s the case with the sets already confirmed. I suppose I’m just being naively optimistic that the SDE might just contain what everybody wants. Fair play to Waters for wanting to work out his daddy issues but why he has felt the need to plague us with them for the last 30-odd years is beyond me! :D

  17. It seems sensible to wait and see what the super deluxe offers but I shan’t be pre-ordering with Amazon anymore. Their high value listings always seem to reduce in price by a significant sum a week or so after release so unless it is a very limited edition that is likely to sell out or you simply must have it on release day, the pre-order is waste of money.

  18. What are Amazon UK playing at with the price? No doubt it will come down before the release date but why waste everyone’s time with an unrealistic price being set.

    This has been going on for a long time, though recently it has got a lot worse with the the over priced McCartney & Dylan box sets. When HMV are undercutting Amazon by £36 for the Dylan 6CD set there is no incentive to even waste time with an Amazon UK order.

    As for The Wall s/t itself, count me in.

  21. I’m definitely getting the film, but having the audio set as a separate item all but ensures I’ll never buy it. (Although, now I notice a track not found on the live 1980-81 set…) It is rather amusing just how many times he can produce the same set of songs, over and over and over. I’m not sure I would ever want to listen to a live version other than the original 1980-81 set.

  23. oh well, nice to have the CDs…but, the show was in “surround”, it’s “made” for a Blu-Ray, and Mr. RW only lets us to enjoy it watching the docu.
