Edsel Records will release a vinyl box set collecting The Beat‘s studio albums on 19 November 2012.

The Vinyl Collection set contains all three records (I Just Can’t Stop It, Wha’appen?, and Special Beat Service) plus The Dub Album, an exclusive disc only available in this box set, that collects all the dub versions from the band’s 12-inch singles and an extended version of Save It For Later.

The records come housed in a specially-designed rigid slipcase and are faithful re-creations of all three of The Beat’s albums, including the inner sleeves.

the dub album also comes included with the standalone special beat service album

[…] The three Beat albums on vinyl plus an exclusive ‘Dub’ 12-inch vinyl selection. More here. […]

The bonus ‘Dub Album’ appears to be somewhat of a curate’s egg, being neither a complete selection of dub versions (the ‘Save It For Later’ 12” single mix is arguably NOT a dub version but IS included; the ‘Ago Talk’ 12” single mix IS arguably a dub version but is NOT included) or a selection of the best period remixes (as Alan correctly points out, the Extended versions of ‘Hands off… She’s Mine’ and ‘Twist And Crawl’ are both sorely missed, as are the excellent Extended versions of ‘Hit It (Auto Erotic)’ and ‘Which Side Of The Bed…?’).

This of course is nothing new: The bonus disc to 1983’s ‘What is Beat?’ compilation featured a similarly incomplete selection of 12” single versions (‘Twist And Crawl’, ‘Too Nice To Talk To’, ‘Psychedelic Rockers’, ‘March Of The Swivel Heads’, ‘Save It For Later’, ‘Doors Of Your Heart’, ‘Drowning’ and ‘I Confess’).

Alan

The only complaint is that there is so much more that could have been put on the Dub album. Where is the Hands off she’s mine/Twist and crawl dub mixes for a start. I think I would prefer to just get second hand copies of the original albums to be honest.
