The Atomhenge / Cherry Red Super Deluxe Edition box set of Hawkwind‘s Warrior On The Edge Of Time, was recently nominated for a Progressive Music Storm Thorgerson Grand Design award.

This 2CD+DVD+LP box set, which was released back in May, features original stereo mixes, new Steven Wilson stereo mixes and new surround sound mixes of the 1975 album, as well as plenty of bonus tracks.

Although it didn’t win the award, this seemed like a good time to show you exactly what the set looks like. Enjoy the photo gallery below!

To be honest I thought the box was nowhere near the best designed box sets:
– the foam that holds the contents will no doubt deteriorate over time as I have seen with other products
– the ‘book’ is more like a pamphlet and the written content is adequate and doesn’t approach that seen in the best boxes
– the cardboard disc cases had some sort of glue on them and were stuck to the foam
Granted the vinyl sleeve is nicely done, although I don’t think it is anything like the originally issued sleeve in terms of cardboard texture etc. (the Japanese seem to have this aspect mastered when you see their CD papersleeves).
The content on the other hand is fabulous, just a shame the bonus tracks couldn’t also have been in hi-res.
