The Beatles / Italy-only box set

The Beatles / La Repubblica Italian box set

In the modern world where everything is seemingly a click away, it can be very exciting to find out about something that is truly difficult to get hold of.

Last week the Italian newspaper La Repubblica starting selling The Beatles remastered CDs in newstands in Italy. The CDs selling for €9.90 each and the first CD – Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band came with this exclusive box to keep all the stereo remastered CDs in.

Every week a different CD is available until they have completed the entire catalogue (including Past Masters). The CDs themselves are identical to the 2009 stereo reissues.

The ONLY way to get the box was to physically get to an Italian newspaper kiosk on 16 October and hope they had some Sgt Pepper CDs left with the box set. The box is rigid and sturdy and complements the Mono box very nicely.

Thanks to ‘our man in Italy’ (Roberto) for help in getting hold of this box!

[…] Italy these newspaper tie-ins are quite frequent and as reported by this blog a similar (but smaller) set of The Beatles’ CDs were issued by La Repubblica a few years […]

I was able to buy all the releases that made up the Madonna box from this newspaper. To be honest, they are not that special. If they are like hers, the CDs won’t have a barcode, which is the only real difference. Obviously this cardboard box is much nicer than Madonna’s.

Quite some (big) artists have released these Italian-only box sets by now. I have one full collection by Muse which seems to do well on eBay as well these days :)

Consider that shipping this box by registered mail in EU cost 13 euros

one went on BIN for £15 a couple of days ago – those things are hellishly difficult to get from my recent experience, i tried to buy the recent Duran one in Italy three weeks after it came out – couldnt find anything.

Paul I do get excited by boxes, but the ones that do that for me are normally quite elaborate, and packed with musical goodies. Each to their own though.

On a similar subject do you have the card sleeve for the Anthology CD’s?

Love the site though, I’m here every day. Keep up the good work.

Nothing up on E-bay yet. :) Man I would love to get my hands on this, especially since I bought the stereo editions individually rather than in the box. How sweet would that look side by side with the mono box!?

Gary

Surely once you start getting excited about a cardboard box you have to realize that something has gone wrong?
