@matty & F van der Scheer
I have same trouble with Amazon UK too. The first shipment arrive crushed, and the replacement also arrive crushed! There was no sign of damage on the outside carton, so I guess very fragile package of this box set and bad handlings by Amazon will be the causes…

F van der Scheer

@matty

I have the same problems with Amazon. The last 10 so called “deluxe edition” cd sets all arrived dameged due to Amazon’s poor packaging. I’ve stopped ordering from Amazon.

Noel Lackey

Can’t understand why they included the Irish Tour DVD, any self respecting Rory fan already has this, surely they could have put one of the shows on DVD as they were all filmed by Tony Palmer.

LedMan

Thanks Fatoldbloke and Paul Ward for comments regarding sound quality.
I was concerned that the sound may have been brick walled due to many modern day remastering techniques. If that’s not the case then I might pull the trigger soon. I’m not surprised to read that the packaging is very minimal and flimsy considering the # of discs and retail price.

matty

Just got my set from Amazon and true to form the box has arrived crushed and dented in one of their unsuitable envelopes.

It wasn’t helped by the fact the box is very thin flimsy cardboard and fragile and they had squashed the Mike Oldfield albums box in there completely crushing the Gallagher box.

Complaining to customer services later because 80% of my ‘deluxe’ set orders go back to them due to damage.

Paul Ward

The soundboard recordings are actually quite good considering the limitations and for fans, worth every penny. The packaging is decent and the new re-mastering of the Cork shows sounds fine to my ears. Great value for money set.

Mic Smith

Thanks to Fatoldbloke for the heads up on sound quality….. I had already decided reluctantly to not buy this…. I wavered when I saw the video and thought ‘maybe’ but I’m not getting it for soundboards. The original album and film are essential purchases so I’ll stick with those I think.

Piotr

@Paul Sinclair.
Paul do you have this box set? It looks very light and flimsy, similar in paper gsm weight to the John Mellencamp cake box.

Francesco Cavaliere

Actually 7 CDs and 1 DVD!

Clarky

The design and package look awful.
Never use a typewriter font.

Mark McKendrick

The typewriter font is fine, as per the original. You had to be there. A bigger problem is the lack of info in promoting this box concerning the sound source – which is pretty lo-fi to say the least.

Fatoldbloke

Only the Cork show and a CD of sessions Rory did back stage are at an acceptable sound. The remaining 4 CDs are from an average sound board mono tape.

I am a big Rory fan so i’m not too upset but would have been nice if they had marketed this better so we would have known about this.

LedMan

The only thing holding me back from pulling the trigger is just waiting on reviews concerning the remastering and sound quality. I have most of the Budda reissues from the 90s of his material and never was happy with the sound.

If anyone orders this new set, please post comments when time permits thanks….

Hedley

Strangely, the US release is limited to a double disc of the Cork show.

SO this terrific package will be heading from Amazon.uk to Detroit.
