Watch Julian Lennon perform ‘Imagine’

Julian Lennon has chosen to perform his dad, John Lennon’s song ‘Imagine’ for the first time, publicly. He said he felt “compelled to respond” due to the War on Ukraine adding “I had always said, that the only time I would ever consider singing ‘IMAGINE’ would be if it was the ‘End of the World’… But also because his lyrics reflect our collective desire for peace worldwide”.

  1. As I watched this, I noticed the guitarist looked familiar but could not place him.

Its Nuno Bettencourt from 80’s Hair Metal band Extreme! I know he does a lot of session work, showing up in various liner notes here and there.

    1. Man, I loved the guitar work in More Than Words and Extreme 2 and 3 but then I lost interest. Last thing I heard was Gary Cherone joining Van Halen (atrocious record) and Nuno B disappearing from the face of the earth, my earth I mean. Good to see he never joined GnR and that he is still alive.

  2. I’m afraid this isn’t my cup of tea. It feels rather self serving and not really appropriate for the mess we currently find ourselves in. I’m sure it’s heartfelt but it’s a poor cover and a poor video. Feels tone deaf in more than one way to me at least

  3. Funny how no one can spare 5 mins to listen to this, but rather complain about the missing Japanese single edit from the 87 bonus tracks off an obscure re-release!
Nice cover – guitar riff reminded me of George’s ‘Waiting for the Day’. Voice is of course very reminiscent of his dads. Sad it had to be remade in the first place, but there you go :-(

  4. Maybe this resonates with fans of him, or of his father simply because he is his son, but I stopped it after 30 seconds. It does not sound good or necessary. I guess it must resonate with fans as I didn’t even find it a good performance and he struggled to hit the first high note. I’ve heard other people cover it much better and it being much more emotional. Even Lady Gaga’s version for whatever olympic games she did.

    1. It would be better to promote his own new music. I heard “Every Little Moment” and thought it was excellent. Kinda Tears for Fears like, funnily enough (TFF fans know that Roland and him duet on a French TV show in the 90s…)
