Peter Gabriel / “So” reissue delayed

Peter Gabriel / So Super Deluxe EditionPeter Gabriel’s classic 1986 album So was due to be reissued on 17 September (18th in the US) as a Deluxe and Super Deluxe Edition but yesterday EMI told this blog that the release has been pushed back to ‘mid-October’.

Details have yet to emerge about the format and content of the Super Deluxe Edition, but at least the delay removes So from a very crowded marketplace on 17 September since Michael Jackson’s Bad, INXS’s Kick, the Sex Pistol’s Never Mind The Bollocks… are all due out in super deluxe format on that day.

The So Super Deluxe Edition was originally touted for spring 2012, before being pushed back to September. Gabriel originally asked for fans to help in December 2011 by sending in any scans of So-era photos and memorabilia.

  1. PG said in his recent August “Full Mooon” videoblog that they had found demos and “idea” pieces, and that they were trying to formulate the “story of the album” and how the tracks came together…..

  2. let me try and be careful with this……a little while ago something claiming to be the “demo” versions of the So songs turned up online and, although i am no expert, they sounded very much like the finished product.

it’s entirely possible that Peter has a stack of unused recordings never to emerge in such a way, but the recent excellent documentary on So didn’t seem to suggest so.

like many i have the original issue CD – played it recently, and it still sounds brilliant. hopefully some details of the extras will emerge soon!

  3. Hopefully that delay is due to adding a 5.1 mix to a Blu-ray Audio or SACD for inclusion. The 5.1 SACD of “Up” is fantastic, would love to hear So in 5.1

    1. Superb, looking fwd to this.

This along with Welcome to the Pleasuredome were the first ever two cds bought together after I had my first cd player back for Xmas 1986!
