Deal alert / Bob Marley: The Complete Island Recordings 12LP vinyl box

marley_deal2

To make up for the slightly not-very-good-in-the-end Bob Marley PopMarket deal from the other week, today SDE is alerting you to the rigid card (not metal) Complete Island Recordings vinyl box available at the cheapest price ever on Amazon UK.

This set includes the nine studio albums (Catch A Fire to Confrontation) recorded for Island Records and two live releases (including the 2LP Babylon By Bus) all pressed on 180g vinyl and is just £91, at the time of writing (5pm BST, 4/4/16) which is only £7.50 per 180g vinyl LP record. Also, unlike the US boxes, this also comes with ‘Back to Black’ MP3 download codes for all content. GREAT deal!

  1. A lot depends on what pressing plant the label decides to use for these sets. Vinyl pressed in the Czech Republic at GZ is, as I’ve found time and again, poorly pressed and noisy (the new Eric Clapton studio LP box for example); the Marley box is, I believe, pressed in the Netherlands and is of much better quality.

    1. Looked at this, ordered then looked at the reviews on Amazon UK & Amazon Germany and the Steve Hoffman site, then I cancelled. It seems there are too many issues with the Lennon box, warped discs, tracks skipping, tracks repeated and this seems to be a recurring problem. Has this been addressed by Universal?

Ordered the Bob Marley box thanks Paul.

    1. What a to-do I`ve had with Amazon today.

My Marley box arrives today, with no protection for the Zippo lighter box, no shrink wrap around the box and Amazon tape holding the lid on! The address label was stuck directly onto the box!

I`ll cut the conversation with Amazon customer services short, but I could not get an exchange, Amazon have sold out. I really wanted the LPs, to buy separately would cost £170+ so I ask for a discount, was first offered 15%, turned it down, I asked for 30%, was offered 25%, deal! I got the box set for £68.25, just over £6 per LP.

So what to do about the box, a clean cloth and cold water, 10 minutes later a label/tape free box, shiny as new. A couple of minor dents on 3 corners if you look for them. I did offer to send photos I had taken of the box on it`s arrival, Amazon said it was OK.

Best SDE bargain since the John Martyn box ; ))
