Blow Monkeys reissue amended after SDE audience feedback

Blow Monkeys / "She Was Only A Grocer's Daughter" 2CD track listing

Cherry Red Records have got in touch to thank SuperDeluxeEdition’s ‘eagle-eyed readers’ for highlighting some omissions and duplications on the original track listing for the forthcoming reissue of The Blow Monkeys‘ 1987 album She Was Only A Grocer’s Daughter.

After many of you offered feedback via comments a few weeks ago, a new and improved track listing has been developed in conjunction with the band that addresses most of your concerns. It Doesn’t Have To Dub That Way has been added, along with Out With Her (short), and a place is also now found for the ‘Unity’ mix of (Celebrate) The Day After You as well as a version of the same track which ended up on 1989 hits compilation Choices. This Is Your Life B-side This Day Today actually dated from the Grocer’s Daughter sessions and it has also been decided that this should now reside on this new deluxe edition.

A great result to see this improved and so a big thank you must go to all who left comments originally and to Cherry Red for listening to the fans. It just goes to show that your voice CAN make a difference, and that it is always worth offering constructive criticism by leaving a comment on SDE. Product managers and decision makers at record labels do read this blog and respect the opinion of the knowledgable, record buying SuperDeluxeEdition audience (that’s you!).

Please see below for the new track listing. The 2CD deluxe of She Was Only A Grocer’s Daughter will be issued on 30 June 2014.

  1. it’s great that Cherry Red is revising the tracklist. For those still complaining, as long as they have the actual tapes, for any omissions they could make available a download card/website with those mixes…

  2. With regard to Cherry Red, they are the best in the reissue business right now. The company selects an excellent mix of rarities and highly desired albums for reissue and their customer service is top notch. They are always highly receptive to my inquiries and I would certainly single out Matt Ingham as a superb example of this.

  3. I wasn’t sure whether I’ll get this or not since I’ve got almost every mixes from this CD already. Now I will definitely get it for all the dub/instrumental/mix I haven’t got :)

Glad, we have this excellent platform Super Deluxe Edition for posting our comments/wishlist/request/missing mixes/duplicate of mixes by different mix-names/labels & likes/dislikes.

Even better is that label like Cherry Red/Pop are willing to listen (reading our comments on SDE) & doing their best to give us, the fans, what we want(ed) & most of the times even more (unreleased mixes from the archive/mastertapes)! Let’s hope all other labels will follow this excellent example! Labels/recordcompanies if you want our money you should give us what we want (Sony USA with Cyndi)!

  4. It’s great to see they responded so well to the comments on here. Really hope they continue with the next two Blow Monkeys albums.

  5. All credit to Mr Sinclair for establishing and maintaining such an influential website. You know you’ve made a mark when the music industry sits up and takes notice. Well done, Paul.

  6. Hi, To thank Cherry Red, to improve the song list but I see that the version is omitted Long Version “IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THIS WAY”,
    Thanks.

  7. Great to see the track listing alterations.

Just one further observation. I believe there were originally two versions of ‘(Celebrate) The Day After You’ described as ‘Long’:

The first was mixed by Dave ‘O’ Ogrin and appeared on the 12″ single (MONKT6) under the title ‘Long’, clocking in at approx. six and a half mins.

The second was mixed by Bob Kraushaar and appeared on the CD single (MONKC6) under the title ‘Long’, clocking in at approx. eight mins. (It also appeared on the 10″ single (MONKX6) as the ‘Election Mix’ or ‘(Celebrate) The Remix’ depending on which of the two picture sleeves were selected.)

It would be great if both were included on this reissue.
