Can anyone tell me if the mastering fault that occurred on the original CD issue, the same versions of Ziggy , has been corrected on the vinyl version.

Those bastards from Amazon.es took my order (which was at good price in January) but deleted it without asking anything.

I wish when Super Deluxe Edition and limited edition are used in description, the number produced would be known. It matters for collectors. 10,000 vs 100,000?

I got my copy in the mail yesterday. I like the textured lift-off box, it reminds me of the vinyl version of Sound + Vision. From some of the photos, I was under the impression the box would include two gatefold records, or even individual sleeves for all four records, and not the plain black poly-lined sleeves. Not complaining, though. The slim box fits perfectly in my record shelves, unlike the huge Five Years box.

I agree with Eric, the two additional tracks don’t completely make up for the stuff that didn’t make it, such as the two tracks on the sampler that have yet to see official releases.

The BBC sampler tells you all you need to know about what a failed opportunity this set is. There is a HUGE amount of Spiders material that was intended for that original set that still has not seen the light of day.

The 1967 BBC session has finally been released officially on the 2CD Deluxe Edition of the 1967 “David Bowie” album.

I ordered the 4 Lp box. Can’t wait ;)

I have never listened to the first 2 CD’s, but the bonus BBC Radio Theatre show from June 2000 recording is absolutely brilliant.

If you want a complete set of the BBC sessions, look for the bootleg “The remains from the rise of Ziggy stardust”. This is a double cd of what was left out of the 3cd set including 1967 sessions.

Am I the only one who finds the term “Beeb” incredibly irritating? What started out as a joke by Kenny Everett has now become accepted terminology. Thank god when they issued the Beatles sets it was correctly referred to as the BBC.

I would only want the 2000 Beeb session if it were the full set not just half of it like the CD.

Though I won’t be in the market for the vinyl reissue, I’ve always loved this BBC collection, not least for the between-song radio chatter – whoever would have imagined Brian Matthew, who sounds ancient even in these 1960’s snippets, outliving Bowie? Yesterday’s awful news makes these clips of the young David even more poignant, especially when you hear him talking about his new guitarist “Michael from Hull” who’d joined the band a few days earlier – music history being made before your very ears! Fantastic…

It would be nice, to have the John Peel In Concert 1971 in STEREO this time, but i do not expect.

Strange, I remember reading about it and I would swear I saw one at some point. But….that was many many records ago… I guess I should have bought it if I actually saw it… Must have been a mirage.

The Bonus Disc that came with the original Bowie at the Beeb was available separately, although it is quite rare in that edition too. It would be great if they’d but this out on DVD or Blu Ray. It was seeing that show on the TV that really rekindled my interest in Bowie in 2000 after having passed on his 90s stuff other than 1. Outside.

Paul is correct – the vinyl release of the 2CD set was planned to appear around the same time but remains unreleased until now.

Ref Adam Shaw, it was ‘Ziggy Stardust’ that was duplicated on the first run of the CD release, Paul’s as-always exemplary track listings – please tell me you cut and pasted all that Elvis box details from somewhere Paul! – indicate that this set follows the corrected inclusion. Ref Bassel, excellent comments but I would have to disagree that the Aladdin Sane Deluxe from 2003 was amazing [aside from the fact that the album itself is amazing and should be owned by everyone with a pair of ears], the Bonus Content consisted of some welcome-in-one-place Single Edits and the Sax ‘John IOD’, plus a far-less-compressed ‘All The Young Dudes’, but none of the live material was from either of the Aladdin Sane tours – all dating from the 1972 US Ziggy Tour – and with the exception of ‘Jean Genie’ and the direct-from-bootleg [but welcome nonetheless] ‘Drive-In Saturday’, not Aladdin Sane songs either. I still hope to live long enough to see an Aladdin Sane Super Deluxe Box, with perhaps one of the Japanese concerts, and maybe a couple of alternate takes [Aladdin has no known outtake songs, the oft-bootlegged ‘Zion’ being a pre-Diamond Dogs demo], and maybe a low-running time but high performance quality DVD with the Harty ‘Drive-In’, the TOTP ‘Jean Genie’, anything from the BBC vaults from the Nationwide filming and some of that remastered Mick Rock footage on it. But I’m not holding my breath! [Ditto the Hendrix Albert Hall 1969 footage]. Whilst here, happy to add my own vote for the stunning BBC Bonus Disc concert to get a vinyl release, having been playing my CD copy all day since reading Paul’s post about this box set.

Due to a mastering error an (estinated 250,00 copies) had the same two versions of Ziggy Stardust, by contacting EMI cosumer dept you received an replacement disc containig the missing version (catalogue no BEEBREP 2) ~ I dont know how people did.

I agree the bonus live disc is brilliant, almost as good as the 50th birthday concert with Frank Black, Billy Corgan etc. Has this concert ever being offically released?

I believe these two exclusives were on the original, quite limited, 2 lp vinyl issue of this collection released 15 years ago. Regardless there are loads of brilliant recordings left out from the originally planned 4 disc bbc set many years ago. If they dont release them soon they will have to put them out in some quantity like the Beatles did.

^ I’m with you Luke and Paul. CD three of the original limited edition, the BBC 2000 studio concert, is quite awesome indeed. Definitely one of Bowie’s finest live recordings. It’s a shame that it was never available more widely; a reissue – vinyl and/or CD – of that show would be most welcome. Then again at least it represents a rare example of “exclusive” material being genuinely that: more often than not nowadays loyal punters are persuaded to rush out on day one for so-called “exclusive” content that is anything but, i.e. remains on sale forever and costs half the price within six months.

I have to say. I love David Bowie’s music, but his reissues recently havent given us much more than what we already have. The deluxe editions of ziggy, aladdin sane and diamond dogs were amazing.. i wish he would do something similar for hunky dory and the man who sold the world. I was lucky to have bought the 2 cd edition when it came iut over 15 years ago with the bonus disc of bowie at bbc in 2000. Will pass on this. They will probably reissue the two extra songs as some RSD special

I cant remember what track it was but one of the Spiders tracks was used twice by mistake on the cd version , has this been changed ?

The original bonus disc in the 3 CD set was the legendary BBC Radio Theatre show from June 2000, my favourite live recording by any act ever! I’d LOVE to see that show given the deluxe vinyl treatment!

The UK Amazon price seems competitive compared to What Records listed price. What Records had offered this at a £20 discount plus £8 postage before 1.1.16 and even the discount price is higher than Amazon before adding the postage. I’m glad I didn’t bite. I’ve put it in my Amazon basket and will keep an eye on prices elsewhere.

Very nice to have, and even nicer to have two extra tracks, although to be churlish the Hype version of ‘The Supermen’ is not exactly the jewel in the crown of the unreleased material from the BBC sessions. Very grateful to Mr B for adding a track from the Bowie/Ronson set, albeit a previously-releaseder. Seems like a wasted opportunity not to have put the Top Of The Pops ‘Jean Genie’ on there though, a cynic maybe suggesting that it possibly highlights Mick more than David [rather like the superior ‘Waiting For The Man’s’ that still lie waiting for the sun in the vaults]. And talking of vaults, Mr DeFries, will we ever see the unreleased Mick Ronson concerts that were filmed by MainMan?
