Kate Bush / Inside The Rainbow

kate_inside

John Carder Bush’s soon-to-be-released second volume of photographs of his sister Kate Bush has acquired the subtitle Inside The Rainbow and now boasts a stunning front cover – a charming outtake from the Hounds of Love cover photo session.

Kate – Inside the Rainbow includes further outtakes from album shoots, never-before-seen photographs from The Dreaming and Hounds of Love sessions, and rare, candid studio shots and behind-the-scenes stills from video sets, such as Army Dreamers and Running Up that Hill.

The book also features two essays from John Carder Bush, including My Sister, My Sitter, where he recalls the experience of photographing Kate.

Kate – Inside the Rainbow is a hardcover volume and will be published by Sphere on 22 October 2015.

  1. This is a nice looking cover, but looks like a dramatic change in style from the “Cathy” book which did not have a single photo on the cover – just the title on the front page with the binding material covering the rest. As much as I like to rest my eyes on Kate, I hope the coming book will remain close in look/feel and general appearance to the first one, that it comes with the same type of slipcase, etc.

  2. When is Kate releasing her singles box set like the nanas and Belinda Carlisle have done? I heard its in the pipeworks along with Pat Benatar and Dusty Springfield…..did Kates work ever get a PWL remix?

  3. Well I’m not too struck on having an overpriced vanity product like this on my coffee table, if only because it just rams it home yet again that KB fans are really badly served when it comes to getting aspects of the MUSIC that they really want.

‘The Dreaming’ will always be one of my all-time favourite albums, but recently I have become a bit ‘meh’ about the Bush, simply because I get the impression that’s how she feels about doing something for the fans. Is it really so much to ask that you put out a creer restrospective, a video collection, and some decent remastered deluxe editions of your albums? Also, a year (and counting) to seemingly edit footage of a live show, with no signs of getting near being done, is beyond self-indulgent. Even Kubrick would have got it done in a tenth of the time!!

    1. Foxee, no disrespect intended, but what you’re saying was exhausted to death on SDE last month and surely, for the sake of all our sanities, doesn’t need going over yet again. See link.

Anyway, I think £26 is a very reasonable price for a high quality product such as this. Yes, I agree entirely with you about the music/videos, but I’m still looking forward to this. Kate used to include some stunning pictures in the Fan Club magazine back in the 80’s.

Paul, do you know anything about the limited run of special editions mentioned on Kate Bush News.com ?

      1. Indeed, let’s not go *there* again. I’ve signed up for ‘information’ about the limited editions but the publisher hasn’t released anything yet. I must admit I passed on the ‘Cathy’ limited edition last year, since I didn’t think it was that compelling for the extra cost.

  4. Kate Bush this Kate Bush that I think she is well overrated to be honest…there is a lot better female singers out there like Dido, Maggie Reilly, Sarah McLachlan etc…Wuthering Heights is awfully squeaky and unbearable to listen to….but hey this new book might quite a good read.

    1. Dido???? Are you having a laugh? Coffee table music for 30-something birds.

If your knowledge of Kate’s work is restricted to Wuthering Heights, then this is obviously not for you.

  5. Lovely cover indeed although a shame that the whole cover isn’t dedicated to just that image. The block with his name on the left hand side spoils it for me.

    1. Well he did take all the photos, so he’s allowed his name on the cover! Interesting how the normally ultra protective Kate Bush has allowed her brother to put two books out in the space of 18 months. Not exactly ‘exploiting’ his sister, but if any other photography had approached her to do this she would have almost certainly said ‘no’.

  6. Paul – The book looks great – but can you extract any info from Warner about when/if ‘Before The Dawn’ audio/dvd/blu may ever see the light of day? – also, was playing ‘Songs From The Big Chair’ last night – any news on when ‘The Seeds Of Love’ box set may appear?…. Finally – I see Amazon now have new remastered versions of the post ‘Hunting’ A-Ha albums up for preorders…

  7. hi Paul

Do you realise tho on the mobile version of the site there is no way to navigate back to the homepage?

The title at top of page doesn’t take you back
It’s not in the mobile footer
The menu options on the right hand side 3-line expanding nab offers Site map as an option but when you click it you get a blank page

It would be so much more user friendly to have way to get back to home from each post/page.

    Love the site

  8. Paul, not a comment on the release, but for whatever reason the mobile version of the site is no longer showing up (using an iPhone). I loved the old format of it – super accessible and easy to read – but the full site is a bit harder to manage outside of a computer. Perhaps an easy glitch to look into? Feel free to not approve/publish this, just wanted to give you a heads up.

    1. It’s working for me. trying scrolling down to the very bottom – there is a link for ‘mobile’ and ‘desktop’ – it may have inadvertently reverted to the full site.
