Larks’ Tongues In Aspic, the 1973 album by King Crimson is being re-released to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The album will be reissued on 15 October (23 Oct in the US) in three configurations – a double CD, a CD/DVD-A and a 15 disc box set:
Double CD
The double CD includes the completely new stereo album mix by Robert Fripp & Steven Wilson and also features three extra Steven Wilson alt takes/mixes from the multi-track tapes along with the 30th anniversary mix of the original albums, a US radio advert and an edit (transferred from original vinyl) from a US radio promo EP. This edition comes with new sleeve notes by King Crimson biographer Sid Smith, along with rare photos and archive material.
CD/DVD-A
The CD/DVD-A features the new stereo album mix by Robert Fripp & Steven Wilson and also features three extra Steven Wilson alt takes/mixes from the multi-track tapes. The dvd-a contains a 5.1 DTS Mix and High Resolution Stereo mixes (24bit/48khz) which will be available on all DVD players. If you own a DVD-A players you can additionally access a 5.1 Advanced Resolution (Lossless audio) mix. The dvd-a features the original album mix, the new album mix, an album’s worth of alternate mixes by Steven Wilson (in High Resolution stereo) and over 30 minutes of rare, previously unseen footage of the band – something of a holy grail for King Crimson fans & collectors. This edition comes with new sleeve notes by King Crimson biographer Sid Smith, along with rare photos and archive material.

The box set includes the album mixed for 5.1 Surround Sound from the original studio masters by Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) & fully approved by Crimson founder Robert Fripp.
CDs 1 – 9 feature 8 CDs of live material from audio restored bootlegs + a CD of live performance in a film studio.
CDs 9 – 13 also feature 4 CDs of studio material including a new stereo album mix, an album’s worth of alt takes/mixes, the original 30th anniversary master plus audio extras & an audio documentary CD drawn from the original session multi-tracks featuring the first take of every piece on the album.

Hi Paul, great to see you writing about this massive set! The King Crimson re-issue series is the best from the past few years.
For those not aware of the reissues so far. they all came as cd/dvd-a sets with new stereo and 5.1 mixes by Robert Fripp and Steven Wilson, plus live tracks and out takes. Mixes are excellent. Seems Mr. wilson is getting better and better at 5.1 mixing.
Out now are also the first two albums by Emerson, Lake and Palmer, both with new stereo/5.1 mixes on dvd-a.
