Miles Davis / Bitches Brew: 40th anniversary set repackaged

Does anyone know where the vinyl of the EU edition was pressed? Comments on the pressing quality?

As previously stated these are a nice affordable way to get the fantastic music contained therein. I bought the full-on boxset to get all the printed bells & whistles. I’m glad I did seeing what it goes for now. The absolute revelation of these 40th anniversary sets is the 180g vinyl pressing. I’ve got a fairly decent but not exceptional hi-fi but the fidelity of this pressing blew my goddam mind, earth shattering.

I’m a big fan of all the metal-spine Miles boxsets & love everything about them, except maybe the price, but they’re so good I think they are actually worth it. It is a bit of a pity they didn’t carry on with that format for the two ‘Quintet Live In Europe’ & the ‘Miles At The Fillmore’ boxes but again they are an absolute steal at between £15-20.

I just preordered and stoked about the great price. Never heard any Miles before so it’s sure to be exciting from the great reviews here.

I’m not happy about the 100th version of Bitches Brew. There were many versions of original recording on 2CD, there was extended version on 2CD, super extended version on 4CD, than lavish 40th anniversary set…. and now yet another one which – I guess – will have less tracks than previous collector’s longbook edition, but DVD.

I’m also not happy that this news pops out and nothing about the Official Bootleg series, which is one of the best archive material series of all time – and number of absolutely interesting Davis’ unreleased music is looong: next 1970 sessions without Chick Corea crew; the 1971’s line-up; the bizzare 1972 squads (this could be instead of obscure “Live 1972”) and so on, and so on up to the Japan 1975 performances and lost studio sessions.

Paul, might I suggest just using the by-now-outdated “quick reference” side banner to achieve the same purpose as the new “top stories” one?

Everything? Even The On The Corner Sessions and The Cellar Door Sessions? Both of which, incidentally, I’d love to see issued in one of these annoying book things if that’s going to be the only way to get them at a reasonable price.

Everything after the release of The Complete Bitches Brew Sessions is redundant.

These packages are a good, affordable way of obtaining these sets, though I do personally prefer the original presentations. I do wish that Sony would have continued with the releasing of these complete session sets, particularly something based around the Agharta/Pangea albums as that for me is Miles taking the 70’s electric band to its absolute limits.

I agree with the previous comments about the new banner…

I think that’s one of those cheap Sony booksets – The worst packaging ever designed…I’be got about 5 of them and they are totally unusable…The discs are held in with a weird arrangement of clips that just does not work…

I’m not saying ‘avoid’ but just make sure you’ decant the discs into something more practical….Otherwise be prepared to spend some time picking your CDs off the floor : (

Add me to the list of those who dislike the top banner. Looks cluttered and confused. I preferred the artist list down the side where I could click on the artist and get recent articles directly related to them.

Yeah I’m with the above two. Good idea, but it doesn’t work.

On topic though I’m not sure if I really need this since I already have the Complete Bitches Brew Sessions set. I’ll have to do a check to see if there is anything other than the DVD that I’d want.

Not sure where to put this comment – but I know it’s definitely not here.

But since I don’t know where else, maybe Paul will catch it.

Paul – I really dislike the new SDE Top Stories banner on the site. I think it’s quite a confusing layout – but actually my main issue with it is, I used to click on the site, and see the top story. If it was new, I’d read it, if it hadn’t changed, I’d move on. The new banner is so big, it means I now have to scroll down every time just to see if anything is new from my last visit.

A step backwards – methinks.

It’s a shame the quad mix wasn’t put on the DVD. That could have been a deal maker.

I wish Legacy would continue releasing the old metal spine boxes in this configuration. They released the Gil Evans set, the second quintet set and the Coltrane set. Bitches Brew would’ve been next on the list. There is quite a bit that’s on that set and not on this 40th anniversary set.
