Paul McCartney to issue new seven-inch picture disc for Black Friday
Paul McCartney is to release a physical single for this year’s Black Friday/RSD.
Amazingly, the seven-inch vinyl picture disc will feature two brand new songs—’Home Tonight’ and ‘In A Hurry’ – both of which were recorded during the Greg Kurstin sessions for Paul’s Egypt Station album. Why these weren’t deemed suitably for inclusion in the ‘Traveller’s Edition’ box set or the ‘Explorer’s Edition’ CD or vinyl sets, isn’t clear!
The seven-inch will feature new and exclusively created artwork based upon the parlour game ‘exquisite corpse‘ along with a lyric insert.
This will be available via participating independent shops on 29 November 2019. It’s not totally clear whether this is a USA-only release or if it will be more widely available. We shall see. Listen to both tracks here.
A – Home Tonight
AA – In A Hury

Must admit. After constant listening, I’m beginning to love these new songs. Does anyone know if there is likely to be any promo CDs released to promote the songs?
The 5.1 mix of ES is coming soon for 1500 dollars.
It will be a box set. So no complain here!
Strange reactions. We don’t even know if the songs were finished at the time of the suitcase. How can you all be sure that no more production work (or overdubs) were done on the two songs AFTER the release of the suitcase ? For all we know, these could be late 2019 songs. (started during ES sessions but finished in the second half of 2019).
Another thing: Amazon seems to have this record listed. So it is not necessary a release for the independant stores. It’s a Black Friday release, more than an RSD release.
The first two songs from the ‘Egypt Station Trunki Edition’?
Some, not all, but some of those extra tracks that appeared here and there from the Egypt Station sessions were not too bad actually. A few of those were better than tracks that ended up on the actual album.
I’m not sure why people get on their soap box to say they feel robbed because those two songs were not included in that not very good and childishly designed Explorer’s box set. That set was limited to the few who could afford the extortionate price, in turns robbing the majority of fans who would have likes to have access to the VERY few extras the box offered.
I think it’s great that at least these two songs will be more widely available. I’m sure they will end up on youtube for all to hear like all extra/bonus tracks from those sessions so far :)
Apart from being gutted that this is vinyl and digital download only, does this also mean that there will no archives release this year? If it had been a couple of related tracks off either Flaming Pie or London Town/BTTE (all of which are rumoured to be next in line), it would have indicated to me that an Archive(s) release was on its way. I believe that WL amd RRS and the Big Barn Box had been announced by this time last year.
Yes, not looking like any archive release this year. 2016 was the last time there was no archive release.
A pity, especially as last years Wings 71-73 was the best so far in the series in terms of content and presentation since Ram. I had high hopes.
Hi Paul,
Re Black Friday- do you know what the definitions are for the categories?
1) THE TITLES BELOW ARE BEING RELEASED 11-29-19 EXCLUSIVELY FOR BLACK FRIDAY (fairly self-explanatory – buy asap!)
2) BLACK FRIDAY LIMITED RUN / REGIONAL FOCUS RELEASES (I guess it’s limited but not sure how it’s different?)
3) BLACK FRIDAY FIRST RELEASES (I assume it may be re-issued and/or appear on CD?)
Many thanks
Its good that PM is supporting record shops with this vinyl single. Its a pity it is not available as a CD single. After the Flowers in the dirt digital download debacle I am surprised he has decided to release a vinyl single. I am disappointed that these two tracks were not added to the Egypt Station Explorers edition disc two which has a running time of only about thirty five minutes.
I cannot see at the moment where these tracks will ever get a CD release. If the tracks had been added to CD2 It would have pleased fans world wide fans. The vinyl single will sell out anyway. With only 12,000 copies pressed I am sure many fans will un able to obtain a copy. I would like to support my local record shop but alas in my home town they have all closed years ago, the nearest being in the city 20 miles away! It seems a cynical decision where the fans have been let down once again! How do I ensure obtaining a copy?
What ?! People are complaining because Macca is realeasing new songs at this stage in the game ? Some fans these are…Or are they worried that it’s going to “devalue” the ridiculously priced “suitcase” (unopened for most I’m guessing) they went for ?
I for one am fine with Macca releasing two or three songs here and there when he feels like it rather than sweat it out to produce an album that will be of interest to practically no one (yeah I know ES went to “#1″…) or procrastinate like the Stones who are sitting on 40 tracks (per their producer) and are not releasing an album because “it’s not great”. Wow, really ?
No one is “complaining because Macca is releasing new songs”
Well they are complaining because he’s releasing material that they think should have been included in their ridiculously priced “suitcase” and they wouldn’t be complaining if he had chosen to keep these tracks locked up forever, so, yes, at the end of the day they are complaining that he is releasing these two new/unheard songs.
Sorry but in my book true fans will ALWAYS be looking forward to hearing whatever unheard songs Macca will be willing/able to send our way. Sooner rather than later this will not be happening anymore…
the rolling stones in my opinion have not released a great record since exile on main street. the real last lp was a bigger bang and it was a big stinker. too many archive live issues and best ofs. also don was as a producer ruined the stones soundwise.
To be fair to Macca this doesn’t seem to sport Egypt Station branding (I may be wrong) I would be more miffed if he had sold the ultra deluxe suitcase thingy as the final word in Egypt Station and then proceeded to put this out.
Nothing really grabbing my attention from the UK list so a few quid saved at least.
I cannot for the life of me think that Paul releasing two new songs on a picture disc at a not exorbitant price is a bad thing. He doesn’t owe us anything. I say God bless him and keep them coming.
There will be one a month soon lol
So here’s how I see it. It’s two more new Paul McCartney songs and who knows how many of those there might be before he passes on. You can download them for a couple of pounds/dollars etc and no doubt you’ll be able to stream them for free if you don’t want to buy them. And if you hear them, like them and want the physical product then go buy the RSD vinyl. Isn’t this what RSD is supposed to be about, helping record stores sell physical product via artists giving them something exclusive? For most people the cost of buying this won’t break the bank and it looks like a really nice item to give or receive as a gift for Christmas.
I don’t think the complaint is about a 7″ with two songs on it, more the fact that Paul is still dribbling out Egypt Station material. The big box was a statement that said ‘THAT’s IT’ in massive capital letters!
All we need is Egypt Station Mega Pyramid version!
Yes. McCartney at it again. Releases a SDE and then decides to release 2 unreleased tracks for RSD?
When will he learn? He is alienating some of his fans.
Alienating them how? As in, “That’s it! I’ll never listen to Paul McCartney again because he released two new songs exclusively on vinyl at a price I’m not happy about!” If you don’t want to buy it, then don’t buy it. It’s the record BUSINESS, remember?
I’m all for ‘if you don’t like it, don’t buy it’ however I, like probably quite a few people on this forum, have rather gone off Paul McCartney because of the way he goes about his business. I’m sure he won’t be losing any sleep over it, but hey… annoying your fans isn’t good if you want a successful BUSINESS, is it?
Hes had a successful business,,
Chill Paul it’s only music, youand mike seemed to get on alright, dont like seeing you upset like this over a couple of songs, you have a great site and your a nice man ,just let macca release wot he wants, hes always been a greedy fucker, my father in law John mc taggarrt from cambletown is a lawyer , in the old days when macca was living in kintre and he got all the Beatles break up papers sent by post it was my father in law that overlooked them and gave him the ok to sign them and send them back to London,he was the only lawyer in Cambletown then ,i spent last week in kintre and went up and seen his house from a distance,iv been their many times, as its just behinds my father in law’s,up a single track road,my wife is a good pal of lorn cousins the bagpiper who toured with Madonna and he grew up in Cambletown and was at school with my wife, now the reason he got the Madonna gig was becaus his father Alistair was a vet in Cambletown and he used to look aftet Paul’s farm , Lorn as a child went with his dad and became friends withPaul’s children as they got older Stella got Married and asked lorn to play at her wedding and Madonna seen him and asked him to go on tour with her he stays in la right now and is also a ambassador for a whiskey company and rubbs shoulder’s with the stars, but my father in law never billed him for anything, and when he got busted for pot he used solicitors from London,if you watch the wingspans dvd after the court case it is c d mactaggert solicitors building in the backgrounds the oldest solicitors on Scotland, so chill out Paul if this site started as a happy hoppy, then don’t let it upset you or take over your life mate, employ some staff if needed love John
Let me assure you I am totally ‘chilled’. All I wrote was “Why these weren’t deemed suitably for inclusion in the ‘Traveller’s Edition’ box set or the ‘Explorer’s Edition’ CD or vinyl sets, isn’t clear!”. Hardly stinging criticism. Everyone is all ‘leave Paul alone’ which I find slightly absurd. I’m just passing on the news and giving my tuppence worth.
@Arthur O’Brien:
Alienating because [as Paul said] he releases this huge mega-expensive box set for ES and finished off his touring for ES. And now he decides to release 2 new tracks from the ES sessions. Were they not good enough to get on his box set but still good enough to release? Maybe he will release additional tracks.
For all we know, he will release another version of ES – maybe even throw in a couple more tracks. Those who bought the box set [and are big fans] will probably end up getting the “new” version of ES because if they spent $400+ [or whatever] on a box set, what’s another $25.
He pissed some fans [I’m sure] with some of his previous box sets only to release stuff after or in the case of one some extra tracks to download instead of pressed on a CD.
It’s on the RSD UK list
Okay. Thanks. I didn’t actually think ‘RSD’ existed in the UK in November, but it seems it does.
I got the Ramones at the Glasgow Apollo from last BF RSD, was about the best thing on the list
I , for one, am excited for this.
I wonder if it will be Macca’s version of the song he wrote during the Kisses On The Bottom sessions “If I Take You Home Tonight” and then gave to Diana Krall for her album Wallflower. If so, its amazing!
It’s not – you can see from the lyrics behind the record that it’s a different track. I agree that it would be good if it was though
just when you thought that McCartney had squeezed every last penny out of his Egypt station fans he comes along and kicks them in the bollox once again, has he not got enough?
I heard this will be available digitally too.
If your suitcase is full (and it should be by now), I’d recommend the TSA friendly Egypt Station Carry-On to accommodate all of these fantastic/future releases.
How much more is macca or the record company keep releasing from Egypt station sessions cds vinyl various coulered vinyls 7 inch vinyls super deluxe editions explorer ed blue case ed it’s crazy oh well I suppose macca needs the money
Nice cover by the way.
According to the Beatles Magazine website both tracks are also being made available for digital download from November 22nd.
Let’s wait next year for the “Second Anniversary Super Iper Mega Colossal Definitive Edition” of Egypt Station with one more bonus track!
Oh God… Macca is the lightning rod for a lot of dissatisfaction on here.
It’s up to him (and his marketing company) what he does with his songs. And it’s up to you what you do with your money. That’s the deal…
No one is disagreeing with you. SDE reports the news and fans can react accordingly.
Hahahahaha – remember when the suitcase was released and it was insinuated that that was it?
Here’s two more tracks folks!
Not to worry if you can’t get your hands on one of these – both tracks will be in the forthcoming ‘Egypt Station: Thomas Cook Package Holiday Edition’, coming this Christmas!
LOL
Hey folks….no need to line up for this McCartney single, 12,000 are being manufactured.
Here’s the official Record Store Day List:
https://recordstoreday.com/SpecialReleases
That’s for the US. The noticeably shorter UK list can be found at https://recordstoreday.co.uk/news/posts/2019/record-store-day-black-friday-to-take-place-29th-november/
I’m so pissed. I thought that any recorded material for the Egypt Station sessions would have been included in the ‘Travelers Edition’ Blue Suitcase release. Shame on me! Never again!!
