Steve Hackett: Premonitions: track listing and price drop!

Two pieces of good news for Steve Hackett fans. Premonitions, the forthcoming 14-disc box set has dropped in price significantly on Amazon UK and SDE can also bring you the full confirmed track listing.

The box features Hackett’s first six albums, plus several live shows and rarities. Steven Wilson has remixed the Please Don’t Touch and Spectral Mornings in 5.1 surround sound and since the original multi-track tapes are missing for Voyage of the Acolyte and Defector, ‘pseudo’ surround mixes have also been created for for those albums. Steve Hackett has already commented that
“the Wilson surrounds I’ve so far heard are spectacular. The lushness suits much of that material.” Some of the DVDs also feature Charisma promotional films of the era.

The box is available to pre-order now in the UK for £87 which is £25 cheaper than it was. That’s £6.21 per disc which is decent, if not outstanding value. We await further details in terms of packaging and presentation.

Premonitions is due for release on 16 October 2015

Update 27/7: Artwork updated. It is now not available for pre-order on Amazon but Europeans can get it for a similar price as above from JPC.de.

My biggest complaint is they leave of some bonus tracks from spectral mornings and please don’t touch that they could easily fit on their new steven Wilson stereo mix CDs. Let me part with my old CDs easily if you want me to upgrade happily.

Philip

Just seen this :

“His Charisma albums Please Don’t Touch and Spectral Mornings are to be re-released separately, along with Wilson remixes, next year.”

Runicen

I’m going to have to second Steven’s misgivings on this set.

Not to take away from the music or the new Steven Wilson remixes, which I’m sure are the tops, but why charge a premium for a set and then arrange the tracks like a budget set? Yes, yes, yes – I’m SURE we can all rearrange these things in iTunes or our program of choice, but isn’t the entire point of box sets priced in the premium-ish range that the buyers will at some point pop the discs in their player? “Enjoying the physical product” and all that.

It may be a nit to pick, but this set feels like it has one foot in and one foot out between the new mixes and the sequencing.

Richard

agreed, not putting each album on a separate disc has completely put me off buying this set, even though I would like the 5.1s. I’ll stick with the 2005 remasters.

Steven

What a godawful mess. Much of this has been released many times before, and that which hasn’t is either compromised (fake 5.1 due to missing multi-tracks) or incomplete (are we really to believe there are no other BBC sessions from this era)?

And where are the 5.1 mixes for Cured and Highly Strung?

Please, Universal, if you are going to change a premium for a box set like this, at least take the trouble to get it right – as things stand, the contents do a great disservice both to the fans and Mr Hackett….

Erik

Hardly charging a premium for this. The 5.1, genuine and pseudo, plus the hi-res stereo mixes are worth the price alone. Let’s face- artists like Steve aren’t selling huge quantities any more and projects like this still require large productions spread over fewer units sold. I’m glad this got done at all.

Tom M

“DVDs 1-2 includes 5.1 surround sound mixes of Please Don’t Touch and Spectral Mornings, 2 promotional videos, and the new stereo mixes in 96/24.”

Someone else inquired whether or not the 5.1 will be DTS or DVD-A. The inclusion of 96/24 stereo versions certainly imply the discs will be DVD-A. But there are two ways to interpret the above statement. Will just the stereo mixes be hi-res or will everything mentioned be hi-res? I hope for the latter, especially since the Yes and King Crimson sets came that way.

Chris

Do you know if the DVDs with the Steven Wilson 5.1 mix also contain a hi-res version ?
