NewsThe Allman Brothers Band / The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings box
A massively expanded version of The Allman Brothers Band’s 1971 live album At Fillmore East, will be released in July.
The new set is called The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings and will be available as a six-CD box, a three-blu-ray audio collection or a four-LP vinyl package and will feature 14 previously unreleased tracks from various March 1971 shows, with the venue’s closing gig of 27 June that same year being included in its entirety (along with an introduction by venue owner Bill Graham, that is also unreleased).
The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings also give fans a chance to hear the complete versions of the two takes on You Don’t Love Me that were combined by producer Tom Dowd for the original Album.
The blu-rays are thought to contain 5.1 surround mixes of the entire content, although that has not been officially confirmed at this stage (this post will be updated when we have official confirmation).
The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings is issued by Universal Music on 29 July 2014.

Do you know if USA produced BluRay Audio discs will play in the UK ?
Someone on Amazon.uk (a fellow Australian) claimed BluRay Audio discs are region encoded. I did not agree.
Australia has the same region BluRays as in Europe.
Just an FYI. I have bought Blu-Ray discs made in the UK and I am in Canada and they play just fine.
And not that I don’t appreciate interesting reissues (because I d0), but how many times in your life can you really listen to all 33 minutes of Mountain Jam before you go on a murderous rampage?
I got into the Allman Brothers about 15 years ago whilst living with a bunch of stoners. I think I’ve played this concert almost to death. This has got to be like the 5th or 6th reissue of this material. It’s interesting to me that they’re able to find still-unreleased music. That’s pretty cool.

I want “Mountain Jam” played all the way through at my funeral, it’s a stunning piece of music and quite beautiful in places.

Paul thanks for the huge info, your thoughts, i am a little annoyed and quite disappointed that the bluray set seems to be aimed only at the US market, as you can imagine there would be many fans across the world
like myself who would be chomping at the bits to buy the album in whatever format they chose, that’s what i cannot understand why they
cannot have a region free disc, to me that is a very poor effort, Paul at this stage do you know if the bd edition will get a UK release?

I thought the same as Michel. Even a single layer single sided Blu-ray has 25 Gb of storage space! Way more than would be needed for the contents of 6 Cd’s!! Thier decision to use 3 Blu-ray’s has to be about marketing!
Making the consumer think they’re getting more!! Also I agree with JL about having options! I really only want the Hi Def 5.1 audio on the blu-ray audio disc’s so I appreciate the ability to buy them separately!
Michel,the audio streams are in bluray are in hd (dts hd, dolby true hd, pcm) the size is very big,(192 khz, 24 bits, bigger than cd quality 44/16) just for the stereo mix. If they include5.1 even bigger size
3 Blu Rays nice, with 5.1 as well hope they come with stereo as well to justify the disc count.
Disc 3 is a bit light.
Once again, you’re shell out money for wasted space. The first disc has only 48 minutes; disc 5 has 46 minutes, disc 6 has only 40! But they couldn’t combine discs with other tracks to make for fewer discs? That’s a question for their accountants I guess.
Someday we’ll finally get away from the annoying 80-minute limit on CDs when labels start offering this stuff online exclusively.
everybodys get excited.. me too… but what about THREE blurays… ??? Six CD’s =6 times 800mb => about 4GB. ONE BLURAY is about 50 (!!) GB…. so why ??? only one reason i guess…. money money money….. and oh well… i suppose i go in the end also for the bluray…. but it isnt right !!!!
I ordered the BluRay box, hope it does indeed include 5.1 mixes as well as the 2.0 mixes so I can rip them to CDs.
Wonder if the BluRay will include any bonus video footage?
Pretty sure these are ‘Pure Audio’ Blu-ray audio, so no footage. They are quite strict about not putting video on the Pure Audios – see CSNY 1974 which is a Pure Audio blu-ray but ends up including a DVD just to have 8 videos!
Not sure I could buy this unless the blu-ray, cd’s and lp’s are bundled together in their own box and are not made available separately (sarcasm indeed). As with the CSNY release, excellent job on the record company for offering options! Very excited!
