Tony Banks / deluxe reissues

The Fugitive is to be reissued as a CD+DVD deluxe

Esoteric Recordings will in February reissue deluxe editions of two albums by Genesis founder and keyboard player Tony Banks

A Curious Feeling was inspired by the novel Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes, and recorded in 1979 at Polar Studios in Stockholm, and 1983’s The Fugitive was first released in June 1983 by Charisma Records, four months prior to the release of the album Genesis. A Curious Feeling featured drummer Chester Thompson and vocalist KIM BEACON and the The Fugitive saw contributions from Daryl Stuermer on guitars, Mo Foster on bass and drummers Steve Gadd, Tony Beard and Andy Duncan. For the first time Tony Banks sang lead vocals on all of the songs.

The albums have been remixed (from the original master tapes by Nick Davis and Tony Banks) and both deluxe editions come with a DVD which offer 5.1 surround sound mixes and 96 kHz / 24-bit stereo mixes. A Curious Feeling was re-released in 2009 for its 30th anniversary so this appears to be a reprint of that edition, while The Fugitive is reissued here for the first time.

As well as the 5.1 the DVDs include rare promotional videos;  For a While and The Waters of Lethe for A Curious Feeling and This Is Love for The Fugitive.

The Fugitive boasts hardback book style packaging and Tony Banks has written notes for the booklets which also include rare studio photographs. As well as the CD+DVD sets both albums will be reissued as single CD editions and vinyl LP reissues, both of which feature the new stereo remixes.

A Curious Feeling and The Fugitive are reissued on 26 February 2016.

  1. Yes it is great to have these deluxe editions (though not sure if I will upgrade from the 2009 edition of A Curious Feeling I purchased a few years ago), but I would love to see Tony’s “Still” CD get a deluxe treatment as well as Mike Rutherford’s first solo album “Smallcreep’s Day”. {fingers crossed}

  2. While its great that they have included the bonus tracks that were originally CD-Only when “The Fugitive” came out in 1983 it would of been nice to include the extended versions of “This Is Love” and “Charm” which were available on a 12″ single. As the boxset “A Chord Too Far” was released before these reissued albums i doubt they will ever be released on CD now.

  3. Just a quick comment about the article:
“The albums have been remixed (from the original master tapes by Nick Davis and Tony Banks) ”

You probably mean “original MULTITRACK tapes” here, since master tapes generally is used for the tapes containing final stereo mixdown.

Or maybe you mean “The albums have been reMASTERED”?

  4. Unless prices of the old Fugitive CDs refuse to come down even after this new edition, I may opt for the standard DVD reissue as that’s all I really need…and it’s half the price.

  5. Any Genesis fans out there… a question for you. Is there bad blood between TB and PG? In the reunion documentary last shown last year relations between the two seemed somewhat frosty (Banks toward Gabriel that is). Just curious why that should be.

  6. ACF probably my favourite G solo album. Still miss playing the 1980s parlour game: “Who can find the most expensive copy of The Fugitive?”

  7. Yes, “Still” is my favorite Tony Banks cd. It has some very good Nik Kershaw compositions on it. Would be great to get that remastered and perhaps add some remixes (if they were made, I believe they were?)

  8. Great news. I’d love to get the same treatment for “Still”. “Red Day on Blue Street” is an awesome collaboration between Tony and Nik Kershaw.

  9. The 2009 30th anniversary CD/DVD edition of “A Curious Feeling” did not include the stereo 96 kHz / 24-bit stereo mix. It only contained the 5.1 multichannel mix.

  10. Very much looking forward to this. Anyone who ever perused the writing credits for Trick of the Tail or Wind and Wuthering knows Tony was the heart of Genesis and I’ve always had a soft spot for the Fugitive despite Tony’s vocal limitations.
