PICTURE: The Allman Brothers Band: Idlewild South super deluxe
Here’s a new image of The Allman Brothers Band‘s Idlewild South super deluxe edition which is due for release in December.
This super deluxe edition is a three-CD plus blu-ray audio set and you click on the picture to enlarge, you’ll notice that CDs two and three consist of Live at Ludlow Garage 1970 (full track listings are below). The second disc of the two-CD deluxe edition contains four tracks from this live recording but doesn’t replicate disc two of the super deluxe.
The blu-ray contains the album in 5.1 surround sound (and stereo) and will include four bonus tracks: Statesboro Blues (Session Outtake), In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed (Alternate Take), One More Ride (Session Outtake) and Midnight Rider (Alternate Mix). These are also included on CD 1 although the CD appears to contain the mono single version of Revival (Love Is Everywhere) in addition to those four.
Idlewild South is reissued on 4 December 2015.

Have listened to the SDE version at least 4X so far and very impressed with the 2.0 and 5.1 Blu-Ray and the main album disc #1 however the remastered “Ludlow Garage” discs are mastered a little too loud for my taste. Would love to hear what others think?
I would’ve been totally onboard to buy this in the Super Deluxe Edition, because I am a fan of Hi-Res audio. But now that I have learned that the Ludlow show is not in Hi-Res, count me out! There is room for everything that is covered on those 3 cds to fit onto one Blu! I don’t need Ludlow in 5.1 like the album is, I just want it in Hi-Res! I’m assuming they went back to the tapes before putting it out again, this time expanded, so why not celebrate the hard work of remastering in Hi-Res? It makes me wonder just how poor the Ludlow tapes really are, since the 1990 cd is just so-so in quality. Maybe they didn’t have a document on their hands strong enough to include on the Blu? Either way: Fail in my eyes. I’ll keep my eyes open for an official 24/96 flac file, hopefully they will release it at least in that capacity?!
I love box sets and I love The Allman Bros. but a couple of things about this rub me the wrong way. First, notice how on the super deluxe edition that the original album, outtakes, and the Ludlow show are on 3 CD’s. However on the 2 CD version all of that fits on just two discs! Conclusion; we’re being charged for an unnecessary third disc on the SDE.
Second, I bought the 2CD “Live At Ludlow Garage 1970” back in the day. So, if I’m a completist (and I am) then I’m forced to at least buy the 2CD version which contains “Ludlow” all over again just to get the outtakes. Plus I’ve just noticed that the original “Ludlow” doesn’t contain “Elizabeth Reed” despite the second disc only clocking in at 44 minutes. (“Mountain Jam” is the only song on CD2.) Now, “E. Reed” shows up on this version? Why wasn’t it on the original?
Here’s hoping there will be a separate Blu-ray release. I’d get that. The blues sound amazing in high rez 5.1. Once you’ve heard it that way, you want more. (Like the new Joe Bonamassa Radio City Blu-ray.)

36 euros on Amazon.fr !!!
This really should come out on vinyl…sadly not
Nice. Pretty sure I’ll start with the 2CD version to begin with, and then possibly graduate to the BD. I’m assuming that the Ludlow recordings have been up-graded. It’ll be nice to have them in a better sounding format.
